Somewhat hockey related....Phil Kessel, playing a PLO bounty tourney, makes a staring role in Daniel Negreanu’s WSOP vlog. Start at the 5:55 mark.
Was that for me? You know Phil the Thrill is my boy.

Commissioner Gary Bettman says NHL wants cut of gambling action

12:34 PM ET

NHL commissioner Gary Bettman said the league wants a cut of gambling profits if its intellectual property, data or video from games are used.
Bettman told guest host Larry Lage in the latest episode of "PodcastOne Sports Now" that those who want to conduct gambling business with NHL assets will need to negotiate.
"We've historically been opposed to extending sports betting on our game, and, emotionally, I don't think that's changed," Bettman said. "However, it is a fact of life in light of the Supreme Court's ruling, and it'll be up to states to decide whether or not they're going to enact sports betting.
"From our standpoint, we believe that that whether it's our intellectual property or data, whether it's video of our game, we have important assets. And if somebody is going to avail themselves or want to avail themselves of those assets in order to conduct their business, then we're going to need to have a negotiation."

.........and then the NFL, MLB, PGA, Premier League and more will come calling. They will all want a share of the money and now all have to get it. NFL will get a lot more. NHL will get a lot less.

I better stick to y own thread, do want to be accused of shitting up another.

That said.

Who said Bettman's idea to grow the game in all corners of the states was a bad idea? The kid from Arizona picked no.1 overall a few years back is threatening to give Crosby and McJesus a run for the money as the best player currently in the NHL. This kid is money.

Leafs may very well be the best team in the league.

And I don't buy the theory Ottawa is horrible. Especially after peddling Karlsson for peanuts because if they do one thing well its draft quality kids.

Huge win for the Oilers tonight. Come all the way back down 4-1 to beat the Jets in OT in Winnipeg. Huge win. Hope this turns their season around.

Inside the discussions on marijuana use in the NHL

From the Athletic (paywall)

With nine US states (and WDC) that have legalized marijuana use, and (Oct 1) legalization in Canada, the union and league are now considering what that means for players.

Fehr told reporters at the event that it was possible that the NHL and NHLPA could come to an informal understanding about marijuana usage among players in the league in the future.
...
“Our policy relating to marijuana remains unchanged despite recent changes to the law in some jurisdictions. Any change in policy would necessitate discussion and agreement between the NHL and the NHLPA,” NHL deputy commissioner Bill Daly told The Athletic this week via email.

And what happens when traveling between jurisdiction that allows to doesn't allow?

(I doubt WADA will change their stance)

Retired NHL Pro Says Half of All Hockey Players Use Cannabis

Former Philadelphia Flyer Riley Cote has swapped out on-ice brawls for a new fight: trying to legitimize marijuana use in the hyper-violent world of pro hockey.
Lead photo via Facebook user Riley Cote
When it comes to cannabis use in professional sports, the holistic medicine and recreational relaxation tool is still frowned upon across all of North America’s major leagues. But while NFL and NBA players are routinely suspended and fined after drug tests turn up THC, athletes in pro baseball and the National Hockey League (NHL) are given significantly more leniency, with minor fines generally being the only consequence for failed cannabis tests. Everything is relative though, and as football and basketball players continue to call for their leagues to stop punishing players for treating pain and stress with CBD and THC, one former NHL pro is using his platform to call for even more cannabis reform in professional hockey, encouraging the league to embrace the plant as part of a healthy training and recovery regimen.
In a new interview with Canadian outlet Sportsnet, former Philadelphia Flyers enforcer Riley Cote details how prevalent cannabis use is in the NHL, and yet how much work still needs to be done before the hyper-violent league actually acknowledges weed as a solution, instead of a minor problem to be swept under the rug.
“Good people break bad laws, I guess,” Cote told Sportsnet. “At least half of those guys [I competed with and against] consumed, and a fraction of those guys consumed regularly. Like, every day…. And that number is probably higher.”

No, I just see hockey things a bit before most people. (that's why I have a good time with openers and the market follows). He's slow, out of shape and hasn't clicked with anybody on that team. And the coach doesn't like his work ethic, will probably be sitting in the press box soon enough. He already kinda said he regrets not resigning with Vegas. The biggest problem for him is Peters came from Carolina and soon after his fave Lindholm came as well in that Hanifin trade. Lindholm is playing the minutes Neal should be playing and he's scoring the goals Neal was supposed to score. 10 straight seasons of 20 goals, he ain't getting a sniff of that this regular season. If you think things are gonna get better for him down the road, you really aren't following this league close enough, it's a 20 something league, not a 30something league anymore.

You see things before most people. Lol. Ok, just when did that start happening? He’s still 28 games into a 5 year contract. He could be traded, someone could get hurt, any number of things can happen in the next 4 3/4 years. Your pumping your chest and we’re 1 week into the 3rd month of the season in a 5 year contract. No matter how you look at it your extreamly early on your hunch you don’t have a nickel on. And what does “I have a good time with openers” have to do with a team signing a player in the offseason. 😊. He already KINDA regrets he didn’t sign with Vegas? You stretch things any further and you’re going to pull a muscle. I have no idea or care if things get better for him going forward. Your opinion on this signing is FAR from close to over. Stick to your openers if you are indeed nailing those. Have to admit, this made me chuckle Goon.
