Trout said he wants to play baseball this season but that he might have to reconsider if there is a COVID-19 outbreak.

What does trout describe as an outbreak? The virus is everywhere, which is a good thing.

I don't remember if he said how many..I don't know where i got it from but be cautious to place a wager on a future bet ... he was talking about on the angels

Kris Bryant :

Emphasizing that he didn’t want to appear insensitive to regular folks who don’t have the same access to testing major-leaguers do, Bryant nevertheless laid out just how far behind MLB has been since reaching an agreement with players on health and safety protocols and other terms for a long-delayed season.

‘‘What we agreed to was testing every day,’’ he said. ‘‘We have had guys here that showed up on Sunday and hadn’t gotten tested again seven days later. And then you don’t get the results for two days, either, so that’s nine days without knowing. And I think if we really want this to succeed, we’re going to have to figure this out.

‘‘I wanted to play this year because I felt that it would be safe and I would feel comfortable, but honestly? I don’t really feel that way.’’

You have to wonder how many of the rank and file are thinking the same, but are afraid to speak out.

Take that asterisk and shove it — Cubs skipper David Ross wants a trophy and a parade
Think a 60-game regular season is illegitimate? Ross isn’t buying it. “If they’re passing out a trophy, I want it,” he said.

But will the players buy in? I question that.

I know this: I want no part of a Braves Over season win ticket. 4 players sick, and two others taking a pass on the season.

Fans won’t be in the stands when the Sox open the pandemic-delayed season July 24 against the Minnesota Twins at Guaranteed Rate Field. But through a team promotion, a few fans might get to see a cardboard cutout of themselves while watching the game on television.

The Sox announced the “FANtastic Faces” promotion, which allows fans to purchase a cardboard cutout of their likeness that will be displayed during the first homestand July 24-26.

Cutouts cost $49 each, while supplies last. Interested fans can submit a photo following the guidelines provided at whitesox.com/fantasticfaces. The net proceeds will benefit Chicago White Sox Charities.

The cutouts will be authenticated and available for pickup after the series.

“I think it’s a good idea, just to get some color out there,” Giolito said.

This may be old news, as I have not been paying attention to sports sites recently, but I did listen a bit to MLB Network on XM in the car yesterday. Apparently it will be an unbalanced schedule. For instance, in both the Yankees/Red Sox and Cubs/Cardinals season series, they will not be 5 home/5 road. Both those series will be marked by one team playing 7 home games and only 3 road games. Maybe this is old news to some, but it was the first I'd heard of it.

I've changed my mind. I think there will be a season, and it will go on uninterrupted. Same with the NBA.

The Section 108 people on Twitter are buying a bunch of cutouts.

Either Oakland or SF is offering this to their season ticket holders. Even better, if the foul ball hits your cutout, they will send you the ball.

CHICAGO — A day after left fielder Kyle Schwarber revealed he and his teammates discussed the do’s and don’ts during the coronavirus pandemic, Chicago Cubs manager David Ross went one step further in discussing the limits.

“We’re staying out of bars,” Ross said during a conference call

As of Thursday, the Cubs remained the only MLB team to not have a positive test among any players, but Ross now wants to keep daily updates close to the vest.

“We’ve kind of got to go the route of ‘we’ll let you guys know as soon as somebody tests positive,’ ” he said. “Other than that, it’s just a process we’d like to keep in-house, and just not update on that daily.

“We’ll let you guys know if anybody tests positive, I promise.”

On VSIN today, Von Tobel was giving his analysis on all the teams. He was spouting stats so fast I could barely understand him. But he left out possibly the most important stat of all: how many Covid positives a team has. For instance, I want no part of an Atlanta Over win total. 4 players tested positive, and one of those is a major player (Freeman) who's got definite symptoms and clearly NOT asymptomatic. They also have two other players who've opted to not play. Interesting note on the Cubs being the only team with ZERO Covid positives.

Uninterrupted MLB and NBA seasons, according to Valuist.

Hope you're right.

Thanks for the info.

I"m going to check it out right now.

You are 1,000% right about Covid cases. This hits the wrong 3-4 guys on a team and things fall apart fast. 14 days gone and then they come back and need a few extra days to get their timing back (no minor league rehab assignments) and a case could have a 20 day impact on an everyday starter. That's 33% of a season.

That can't be overlooked when dealing with season win totals.

He doesn't say why he changed his mind. I'm wondering why he did.

If there was a likely second wave, the market would've sniffed it out a while ago. It's forward looking. The media loves to push fear; markets feel it's overdone. The market collectively knows better than any of us.

the market would've sniffed it out a while ago.

Which "market" are you referring to: the stock market, a betting market, or some other market?

By the way the danger in the Fall is the beginning of a new flu season (usually starts October 1). Contracting both the flu and Covid-19 apparently really complicates treatment and forces the immune system to fight two different threats at the same time.

From cleveland.com:

{If a person did catch both diseases, Poland (Dr. Greg Poland, professor of medicine and infectious diseases at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN) said reason dictates that the symptoms would be exacerbated.

“How they actually infect human cells are different,” Poland said. “If one were infected with both and had an upper or lower respiratory tract infection, that is a double whammy. One of them by themselves is a difficult and sometimes critical situation. Both of them at the same time raises the pathology and the critical nature of the illness.”} (bolding, underling, and italicizing me)

{Influenza uses sialic acid, a sugary acid, to attach to cells while coronavirus uses the ACE2 enzyme, a protein.}

{Poland said anyone worried about possible coinfection could take another very simple step: getting an influenza vaccine.} (bolding, underlining me)

I would say the NHL has the best chance of completing their season as they go straight to their playoffs with a potential Game 7 of the Stanley Cup Finals scheduled for October 2, 2020, right as flu season starts.

Plus their two "hubs" have relatively low rates of infection as compared to Orlando, FL. Also, in contrast to the NHL and NBA, baseball is being played everywhere.

The infectious disease specialist from the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN, Dr. Greg Poland thinks so.

I would and I plan to. Next flu season's vaccination usually don't come out until late September or early October. Can't hurt, might help.

The financial markets. Big picture, the betting markets are microscopic.

They have about a 35% success rate. I got flu shots twice back around turn of the century. Ended up getting sick shortly after one of them. Haven't had one since, and don't plan on it this year either.

They have about a 35% success rate.

From the Centers For Disease Control and Prevention (CDC):

How effective is the flu vaccine?

CDC conducts studies each year to determine how well the influenza (flu) vaccine protects against flu illness. While vaccine effectiveness (VE) can vary, recent studies show that flu vaccination reduces the risk of flu illness by between 40% and 60% among the overall population during seasons when most circulating flu viruses are well-matched to the flu vaccine. In general, current flu vaccines tend to work better against influenza B and influenza A(H1N1) viruses and offer lower protection against influenza A(H3N2) viruses. (bolding, underlining, italicizing by me)

Ended up getting sick shortly after one of them.

If you got sick it wasn't from the flu shot as the shot contains dead viruses that your body produces antigens to. The viruses in the shot would need to be alive for you to get sick -- but then it wouldn't be a vaccine. Just a coincidence that you got sick. Without the flu shot, you still would have gotten sick.

The flu shot only protects against flu viruses covered by the shot. It doesn't protect against other illnesses. With the flu shot, it takes 14 days for you body to produce the antigens to gain the maximum effectiveness.

He has a good reason - He and his wife just adopted twin girls who were born prematurely. They are in the ICU for the forseeable future.

A noted name who pulled out today is White Sox Michael Kopech.

I am anxiously awaiting the following MLB employees to opt-out:

1. Laz Diaz
2. Angel Hernandez
3. Joe West
4. Dan Bellino
5. Alfonso Marquez
6. Vic Carapazza

Those are just the start. But all 6 need to opt-out.

Major blow to Boone’s pen.

Softened a bit by having Britton. Who should step into the closers role now.

Day-to-day when they start, teams that lose key pieces to their pen will be crushed. Giving bettors an edge.

Most teams aren’t the Yankees, and do not have 2 viable closers.
