He'll start tonight after Jo-Jo Reyes was used in relief on Sunday and probably remain in the rotation until Tim Hudson gets back. He was 2-3 with a 6.00 ERA before being sent down.

He had lost five straight starts, so he wasn't exactly making a strong case to stick around anyway. Still, the Braves will probably want him starting every five days in September.

Putting him on the disabled list might be an admssion by the team that the Braves are out of it.

By placing both on the disabled list, the Braves could be waving the white flag on their season, making a Mark Teixeira trade more likely. Omar Infante and Martin Prado will fill in at third base for the next couple of weeks.

The 25-year-old should be back in September, if not earlier.

He posted an 11.93 ERA in July, though, and had been moved to the bullpen following the acquisition of Joe Blanton. The team is expected to call up J.A. Happ Tuesday to pitch out of the bullpen.

He posted a 4.29 ERA and 115/36 K/BB ratio in 121 2/3 innings spread over 21 starts between Double-A and Triple-A, and is expected to get a spot start Wednesday against the Rays. Richmond had been scheduled to pitch for Team Canada in the Olympics, but will no longer be headed to China.
