Barkley was creating some major Heisman hype at the end of the season, and with Southern Cal out of the NCAA jail, the Trojans quarterback looks like the frontrunner to win college football?s top individual honor. He passed for 294 yards per game with a total of 39 touchdowns and only seven interceptions last season.
Montee Ball (Wisconsin Badgers) +500
The Badgers' touchdown machine was a Heisman finalist after scoring a FBS-best 33 TDs last season. Ball rushed for 6.26 yards per carry and makes Wisconsin a nice long-shot bet to win the national title. Maybe double up with a bet on the running back to win the Heisman and the Badgers to win the BCS at +6,000.
Denard Robinson (Michigan Wolverines) +650
Shoelace is a one-man offense, totaling 1,176 yards rushing, 2,173 yards passing and accounting for 36 touchdowns. Robinson proved he could be just as potent throwing the ball as he is running it, with the comeback win over Notre Dame as his ?pi?ce de r?sistance?. If he can get Michigan to the top of a very competitive Big Ten, then he has a shot at the Heisman.
Landry Jones (Oklahoma Sooners) +650
Any time you?re the quarterback for a powerhouse program like OU, you?re going to at least get into the Heisman conversation. But Jones would be a contender no matter where he was taking snaps. He was third in the nation in passing, totaling 4,463 yards last year, and plays for a team among the BCS favorites, at +1,000.
Geno Smith (West Virginia Mountaineers) +800
Smith and the Mountaineers take a step up in competition, moving from the Big East to the Big 12 this season. West Virginia?s QB posted 337.3 passing yards per game (best in the conference) and finished with 31 touchdowns and only seven interceptions. The Mountaineers have the firepower to keep pace in the Big 12, as they averaged 37.6 points per game. But Smith will face tougher defenses most Saturdays.
