That's Virginia point guard Ty Jerome.

He's suffering from a back injury right now but he'll be there for the Cavs in March and early April.

Don't discount his talent because he's projected by some draft experts as an NBA first-round selection this June.

He's my longshot pick to be the 2019 Final Four Most Outstanding Player.

Virginia teammates Kyle Guy and De'Andre Hunter receive more publicity than Ty Jerome but Jerome is the team's most important piece.

Virginia hosts Duke this Saturday and UVA is expected to defeat Duke, according to Ken Pomeroy's numbers, 70-65.

In a sport dominated by African-American players, four white players have won the Final Four MOP award over the last nine seasons.

2010 - Kyle Singler (Duke)

2013 - Luke Hancock (Louisville)

2016 - Ryan Arcidiacono (Villanova)

2018 - Donte DiVincenzo (Villanova)

Still hard to believe Virginia lost to Maryland-Baltimore County last year.

A true head-scratcher.

Have to wonder if Bennett wore them down. They were as good as any team during the regular season last year. Remember all those Cincinnati teams under Huggins who would wilt come post season?

It does make you wonder if teams are better off losing early in their conference tourneys, knowing they will still be a 1 or a 2-seed.

The thing is, they had a pretty easy schedule down the stretch last year. Out of their last 13 games, only 2 finishes in the top 25 on kenpom.

Good point, Valuist.

Fran Fraschilla made the point the other day about college kids wearing down as the season progresses.

He said he liked to keep practices to only one hour during the month of February.

Conference tournaments make money for the conference.

The NCAA tournament makes money for the teams and the conferences.

The coaches are aware of the set-up.

Which might be the reason he is in the booth instead of on a sidelines.

Is this available to bet anywhere? Would be a fantastic way to get a better price on virginia to win the title. Maybe a little on hunter as well.

Then again a ML rollover on Virginia would easily beat their current odds.

Haven't seen it yet, Sporty.

About Virginia's title hopes: It's becoming clear that Duke creates matchup problems for Tony Bennett's team.

The beauty of the NCAA Tournament is that another team can do Virginia's dirty work by eliminating Duke before another Duke-UVA meeting.

De'Andre Hunter with a huge second half and overtime period stole the Most Outstanding Player award from my choice.

The MOP award is supposed to include both the national semis and the national title game.

Guy and Jerome were serious candidates.

Jerome with 14 assists and only three turnovers in the two games in Minneapolis.

Many of Hunter's baskets were a product of Jerome's dribble penetration.

I thought any of the three could of won it. Don’t forget, Guy hit the corner three with a hand in his face down 6 vs Auburn. He misses, game over.
