25-26 NHL Season

Don't know the severity, but a potentially devastating injury to Sasha Barkov

Panthers captain Aleksander Barkov injured during training camp. What we know

Aleksander Barkov, the captain of the back-to-back Stanley Cup champion Florida Panthers, sustained an apparent right leg injury during training camp on Thursday. The injury happened during a non-contact drill, with Barkov falling to his knees shortly before a minor collision with defenseman Niko Mikkola. Barkov laid on the ice for several minutes before a pair of staff members helped him to the dressing room. Barkov put very little weight on his right leg while leaving the ice. Panthers coach Paul Maurice said after the practice session that Barkov was still getting looked at and the team should have more clarity on Friday. “It’s beyond our control,” Maurice said. “If we have to learn to win hockey games without good players, if that’s the adversity or the test that we face this year, then that’s what we’re going to do. I’m not a doctor, so whatever the report is won’t affect how we handle the next days. If he’s not in the lineup on Opening Night or if he misses an exhibition game or if he’s out long-term, it’s just not gonna affect that day. We’ve gotta win hockey games. We’ve gotta prep for it. That’s all.”

I hope it isn't serious, but everyone knows the non contact injuries are typically the worst

We're getting closer. The season starts in 12 days. It's been 10 seasons since my Wings played a playoff game. A lot more hopeful this year than the last 9. The best thing about this year is that the team was put together the right way through the draft and some wise free agent signings. Goaltending, the Defence, and PK should all show improvements. PP was about 4th in the league for most of the season. A full season with the coach shouldn't hurt. So, there are things to be optimistic about. I'll make a few futures bets before the season starts. I haven't seen odds yet, but Montreal should have another Calder winner in the Russian Demidov. He's a very exciting player to watch. Much like Lane Hutson. Last season's winner.

RSP Played TB under103' 2 units. 2 defensemen over 36. Ottawa over 94' for 1.5 units(good longshot to win cup) Buffalo over 83' for 1 unit and Columbus over 84'

Worst fears are realized, Barkov undergoing knee surgery and is expected to miss the season. A devastating blow to the Panthers hopes for a three-peat. The two players who are irreplaceable are Barkov and Bob, I'm not saying their season is over, but I can't see them winning it all again

That TB under is likely a pretty advantageous play imo. All the other teams in the Atlantic seemed to have improved in the off-season. And coaches don't last forever, so maybe this is the year they start tuning Cooper out. Unless the Barkov injury motivates them. But still, there's really no easy wins in the Atlantic except possibly the Bruins.

Ottawa has the components to win the division now. This is a very good team. Like Detroit, but better than Detroit, they just need to finally put it all together.

Panthers Under 100.5 points. The loss of Barkov can't be understated, no Tkachuk for the first couple of months, Bob a year older. I think this year will be more about keeping guys healthy than going balls out during the season for the highest seed, given they've played four seasons of hockey crammed into three seasons, the thinking should be let's just get in the dance and not worry about seeding. I think at various times during the season Maurice will give his guys rest, trying to keep them as fresh as possible for another run at the Cup. They'll also have a target on their backs every game they play, they'll get their opponents best every night.

Thanks for your insight into teams before the season starts guys, would be cool to see the Jets go deep into the playoffs!

Blackhawks to make playoffs +1600. Lighting candles in front of my signed Stan Mikita photo.
Seems like a "bet with your heart" type of bet.

8 teams make the playoffs in the West. Hawks had 61 points last year and finished with the 2nd-worst record in the league.
9 teams in the West had more than 89 points. 6 had over 100. It took 96 points to make the playoffs LY. 9 teams did that.
They would likely need to improve by 36 points. Normally, that happens after getting an injured star player back from an injury.
They rank 30th in terms of both the youngest as well as least experienced teams in the league.
The Athletic, probably one of the more respected NHL media organizations, projects them to finish the season with 70 points. Also,
the lowest projected totals of all 32 teams. I think you might be up against it with this one. Good luck, though.

All solid reasoning.

I'll take a shot with the Red Wings playing well to start the season on Friday night at home vs the TB Lightning.

Wings are 3-1 to start the young season and could really send a message to their own team with a W here.
They've beaten the Maple Leafs 4 times alone in October, though 2 were preseason games, and now they are coming off a win against the SC Champion Panthers.
A win here at home against the other perennial Atlantic Division playoff-bound Lightning would really wake this team's psyche up. The only thing that worries me a little is
1st line winger Lucas Raymond is gonna sit this one out, and they've moved off-season pickup Mason Appleton to the 1st line to take his place, keeping the also hot Patrick Kane/Debrincat line together. This team suddenly became pretty dangerous with young, fresh talent to step in when needed. Lighting GGA at 4.00 through their first 4 games.

Detroit +132 @ FanDual

I wanted to unload on this but it looked too easy. They had 98 points last year with a healthy Barkov and Tkachuk. Florida on a 4 game losing streak and looking like they will be in a dogfight to make playoffs. Looks like I read too much into the line. Don’t want to jinx it but this looks safe.the fact that I was going to make this my largest futures wager ever and backed off and didn’t even put a dollar on this is a good sign for you.

Insane value with Gulutzan.

Will be putting a little more on Scheifele to win Hart. sport select still have him listed at 467-1. He’s on pace for a career year motivated to earn a roster spot on the Olympic team. Jets looking elite again.Back to back Hart trophy winners in the Peg. Stranger things have happened

I wouldn't go that far, they get Tkachuk back in a couple of months, and they still have plenty of front end talent. I think they safely get in the postseason, whether they can make another run at the Cup is the question, and I don't think so, but as the late Rudy Tomjanovich once said "Don't ever underestimate the heart of a champion"

Played these at Fan Duel today

Tampa Bay -140

Pittsburgh +102
Edmonton -140
Parlayed the 2 as well +246

How about those Red Wings!

What a game last night. They outplay the Kings the whole game then give up 2 goals as LA pulls the goalie and ties it in the last minute.
They then score in overtime to win it....but its called back on a goaltender interference call. Wings then proceed to win in the Shootout.
That was a hell of a game. Euphoria if your a Wings fan, Heartache and Heartbreak if your a Kings fan. All the years i've been watching hockey, I dont think I've ever seen one go back and forth like that.

I'm with you, Bushay. What a start, indeed!

the youth looks great, Larkin and Raymond continue to take steps forward (credit their roles and performances in the 4 Nations to elevate them), and big shocker...solid goaltending means they're in every game.

The rest of this road trip is huge. Anaheim is improved, SJ can't be overlooked as they put up goals, then the Golden Knights which will be a tough finish to the trip. I'll be happy if they can get 3 out of a possible 6 points, before returning back home for a favorable 4-game home stretch against the Ducks again, Rangers, Chicago, and Buffalo (early season revenge).

It looks like this team is finally ready to end their playoff drought.

Kind of strange to see the Rangers struggling to score goals at home. Edmonton & Nashville in tough scheduling spots today in B2B and 7 in 11. Ended up just taking Minny against Nashville and elected to pass on the other game since Dallas has issues scoring and are without Hintz & Duchesne right now.

Rangers shut out again at home. Unreal.
Rangers Home 0-5-1 Outscored 18-6 Scored 5 in an OT loss to SJ 6-5, otherwise outscored 12-1 at home. 3 shutouts
Rangers Home 6-0-1

Good call on your scheduling angles Sharky

Interesting game in Chicago tonight.

Everything is pointing to Chicago being the correct side.
I haven't bet on it yet, but I wouldn't be one bit surprised if Toronto gets the W here.
