Everyone's claiming the HOF threads now...open season

Anyway, I am leaning to the yes.

Keep in mind no player with over 100 wins above his losses has been left outside the HOF.

I don't believe he can hang around to get 300 though. What a comeback though, he was sharp today.

Todays win moved Muss past Ted Lyons (HOFer) into sole possession of 39th place on the all time wins list.

Also Mussina has won just over half his career starts the mark of an excellent pitcher...he really is a slightly lessor pitcher than Greg Maddux, pitching his entire career in the AL East ...had Moose pitched in the NL who knows.

He is known for never winning 20 and never winning a ring in NY, he would have easily won 20 games in 1994 and 1995 had the strikes not occured.

Winning 19 in 95 in 144 game season
Winning 16 in 1994 in a little over 2/3 mark of season.

Bobby Mathews has 297 wins and i believe he won over 40 one year.

Yeah, but can't you say that about anyone? Roger Clemens isn't (going to get) in and neither is Pete Rose.

Its not fair to Moose to say that if so and so isn't in, than neither should he be. You go on the player's merits too. Its not Moose's fault that Bert "be home" Blyleven is not in the HOF so why should Moose be punished?

Blyleven had a lot of really poor seasons mixed in... Yes he did play for some bad teams, the Twins were pretty good when he arrived though in the late 60s, early 70's

Moose 261 wins/ 520 starts

Moose never had one season like any of the above.

There was a point in Bert's career he wasn't even starting regularly...just too many iffy seasons to be a legit HOFer ...

No doubt he had many very good years and the best curveball maybe off all time.

Blyleven did play on a lot of crap teams , for sure!

The Orioles weren't all that either for a portion of Mussina's career/

Not a bad ERA for the Steroid era he pitched in. I'd say yes, by a narrow margin several years into his candidacy.
