An every day gamblers life - It's up and down

The life of an every day sportsbook gambler is a life ripe with big ups and big downs. I wager on the big 3 sports non stop, day in and day out.
Baseball, football and hoops. It seems to never end. I look forward to every day, up before 5am looking and betting the card and when time permits, peeking ahead at future cards.

I'm usually online all day, every day. I live out of the state of Nevada so 99% of my wagers are at offshore books. It's all about the gamble and I have no thoughts of ending the life style I currently lead.
I'm chuckling as I write this because I am listening to a friend of mine, Erin Rynning, on his SportsMemo radio show breaking down the NBA while I try to get this completed.

My message: If you want to gamble daily be prepared for the wild ride. Sometimes it gets to me like a couple weekends ago when I had a terrible weekend losing every close game and getting on the wrong side of many others. At that point I just went to bed, curled up in the fetal position, closed my eyes and went to sleep. The next morning I was refreshed and at least willing to look at the small card going that day.

I hate laying that juice: I have had a good hoops season so far.
A couple weeks ago I was sitting at a 55.68% win rate in baskets so far this season. Since then I have gone 22-22 over my last 44, dwindling my win rate to 54.79% but also chipping away at the bankroll paying that vig. Even with reduced juice wagers on many of my bets it still irks me to "push and lose", so to speak.

What's the goal?: I try to make a 7-10% return each year on my wagers. My 2011 goal is to "Bet less Games" and "Win at a Higher Rate". I'm not so sure I've accomplished the former so far but I'm working on it.

Today's Darts:
I actually found three games in college hoops today on this short card.
I almost lowered it down to 2 but couldn't quite figure out which one to drop so I went for all three.

725 VCU OVER 142 ( I think the score will get close to 150)
740 Ball St -2 ( I see a 5-7 point win)
741 Rider +1.5 (Winner outright by 3-5)

Disclaimer: I'm a coin flip the last couple weeks. Buyer Beware.

I went with you today to try you out. Don't bet much baskets but needed some action today.

Bagiant, buyer beware ...At least until I can hit at a better rate than 22 out of 44.
I do feel good about the games though.

Bdaddy. Short sample. I've made 219 basketball wagers so far this year. But, results have been good.
I hope I can keep it up but one never knows. Tomorrow is different than today. The wild ride never ends.
And, thanks for the congrats...

Siena is 0-5-1 as a favorite this year.
Siena defeated Rider at Rider as a 4-point dog earlier this season.

Re: An every day gamblers life - It's up and down

Wagering the top 3 sports must be very difficult. I do well in football, but I credit my success partially because that is the only sport I seriously wager on. I spend the off season acquiring information about the coming season. I even have a small business that does just that. College Football is what I am best at, because there are so many teams and games to wager on per week that the chance of a bad opening line is much greater than that same chance in the Pro game, when you have a maximum of 16 games a week.

If you hit at a 55% winning clip, that is very good. I hit at a 58% winning clip in football, but I doubt that winning percentage would be that high if I had to split my time between more than one sport. I like your apporach of wagering on less games. I only wagered on 112 games all of last season, and that includes "games of the year" wagers made in June, and middles. Good job. Continued good luck.

Munso, ck and Brian, thanks for posting.

Junkyard, I remember you from last August/Sept in the college foots forum.

I've got one in, one looks like a sure fire loser after they had a 10 point lead at the half and that leaves me with Rider, which is leaking oil after a 12 point halftime lead.
They lost the lead but now are ahead by 4.

This is a tough business.
Anyone who says it is glamorous is not involved.

To be involved everyday of the year has to mean something...my hat's off to you....
I used to be involved everyday when I was younger, but it took its toll and I stopped..going from working as a clerk and working my way up, being a runner, being an agent, and being a sports bettor...The ups and downs were like a roller coaster ride, enjoyable and sometimes downright sick...

I am still involved in the industry, but have drastically cut back my involvement with everything..I am just gambling a little with sports and my involvement with EOG is keeping me busy...playing golf and backgammon takes up most my time...the gambling life isn't for everyone, but I sure have had a hell of a ride and I don't regret it one bit...

I just remembered when I used to sweat the scores and the race results before the internet and simulcast...(funny the things you remember when looking back)

Shit, Dino, do you remember Sportsphone? Guys used to pick up a payphone and pay 99 cents a minute to hear the scores! I'm going back before the days of ESPN even. 12io4j2w90

Wow! I laughed out loud when I read that. "Mike Mancuso for sports phone......."

The worst was at the end of the night when a game came down to the end, and they didn't want to do another update, so they would be late with the scheduled update waiting for the game to end. And idiots like me woould keep dialing so I could get the damn score and go to bed.

Re: An every day gamblers life - It's up and down

The worst was when you were just a kid and couldn't risk the long distance number showing up on your mom and dad's phone bill. Then you had to get out of the house and get to a payphone. :yay

I'm on two games tonight but I'm not feeling they are stong enough to post.
I've got an edge, I think.

I see BYU is a 5.5 favorite tomorrow over SDSU.
Drats. Just about everyone I know was hoping it would open lower.

Thanks for the contribution, Tim. Enjoyed reading your material.

Postscript: BYU -5.5 is the right number.

John,
I have the feeling you'll be laying the chalk tomorrow.

Palm Tree,
Good luck on what you plan to do.
With the number where it is I may not play the side.
Personally, I had hoped to see a "3" ...
Obviously, I was dreaming.
