Another gambling investigation

wtf is Morris talking about??

He got markers and lost it all...

He got them based on past credit (line) and history. He thought he would win pay off the marker and leave.

He knew he couldn't cover them, now he's crying victim.

I'm surprised for that amount of money they didn't verify checking account balance et al...

Once, you can cry a river, mistake.....two times in a short period of time?! Scam artist.

You can bet your bottom dollar they gave him plenty of time to pay , probably months, which means he played them along with "sorry about that check bouncing, I'.ve got you, I'll settle up next week", etc.

No way the casino involves the cops until they know 100% they were stiffed, which we all know takes time because everyone has a sob story and you give people the benefit of the doubt..

He can hang out with Warren Sapp- and they can trade stories.

The deal was they were charging a rake, which means it wasn't a house/private game but a casino. You cant charge a rake, just an idiot and a greedy one at that.

Yeah he's pretty dumb. Never run something like this out of a place you own, always rent a place.

With what he's made he may be safe but for the regular Joe Blow it's dangerous to profit from illegal gaming in your home......

It may not be your home very long.

What do you suppose the rake was? I know typical low stakes casinos it's $3-4-5/pot, anyone know what it is at high stakes?

I could see it being $10, maybe $25 pot if it's huge money - dozens of hands/hour for many hours night, it could be thousands per night, hundreds of thousands over time. the idiot prob justified it by saying he provided food and drinks, prob hired dealers, etc.

Around here it was always the same, low stakes or high stakes it was 10% of the pot with a $5 maximum.

Now I've never been involved with a home game that hosted celebrities, they might rake more?

Usually has more to do with what you are doing. If you're running an ongoing game you have to keep the rake reasonable.

Players aren't stupid, you rake $10-$25 a hand and it really adds up. They aren't going to let you get away with that.

Pro's hate to tip the dealer a dollar because what it can do to their hourly rate, they surely aren't going to let you rake big amounts.

Now if you run a game on like a cruise or somewhere you are never going to see the players again, we call those "snatch" games.......

The dealer is going to snatch as much as he can out of every pot, LOL.

If you run a game twice a week in town you need to cap it at $5 or so regardless of stakes.

You'd be surprised how quickly even that adds up for the house.

I have no clue about any of this, just repeating what a friend told me.

Thanks, I had no clue so that's why I asked, $5 is sorta reasonable, another issue is dealing, at a normal home game every player takes turns, for huge money with strangers you might get people who can manipulate cards/cheat, that would be a big risk.

There is rake charges home games every where, I've been to many and I know several Copa that play In them

Rake is 20 to 100 a hand in high stakes games, massage drinks, gourmet meals included

Malik Beasley: “If I do go back to the NBA, it’s gonna be with the Pistons. I haven’t signed anything yet, but I have my strongest ties there. I had my best season there last year, and hopefully I can fit back in with the team.”

My summary

- Clase was doing this for 3 years
- His buddies made $400K doing it, some money was given to Clase, lots sent back to DR
- Clase would call these dudes on the phone DURING GAMES to confirm stuff
- Ortiz only got involved right before getting caught
- Guys were parlaying pitch velo and pitch going for a ball (hence the slides a foot or more off the plate)
