Are There Too Many Forums?

I have been told by several posters that there are way too many forums for them to check each day...

Do you agree?

And if so, what do you think the future holds for "older" forums, "newer" forums, etc?

Will posters stay with the "established" ones or give the newer ones a shot?

What would you like to see done differently here?

Your thoughts on this are greatly appreciated...

Thanks,

I check out only one and if Beanie don't stop his daily harangue against Cascade that number will drop precipitously! LOL!

I actually like the line service here so much I stopped checking the other boards (need to add WSEX and BJ though ;) ). I wouldn't mind more handicapping/offshore talk in the industry forum - rather then the same two guys going back and forth using broken english.

I do alot of LURKING at other forums, sometimes when I dont like when a person talks bad about a book they know nothing about I will put my 2 cents in, I think you have an EXCELLENT forum, but I think more people should talk about more books that dont neccesarily advertise on your site, to WEED the good books from the bad one's, and I would like more talk about scalping, middling, steam, squares, and so forth.

There can never be enough food establishments available to feed this countries desire to eat, let alone the world. With the USA approaching 300 million in population, there is room for many forums and restaurants I believe.

There can never be enough info available to get that % of winning gamblers better than 5.

There are various reasons why a poster will go from one site to another as with eating out. Quality is the BIG key. That being in employees, customer service offered, the respect given, what's on the menu (variety of food or information to learn from) or just easier to look at and cleaner. Having faith in the owner(s) real passion for what is happening at his business being key as well.

With that said, I think EOG has lots of room for improvement. And, I know for a fact there are a few people that will do their best to not get complacent.

Shrink how hard is it to incorporate a couple of poker tables into this site. If it's possible to do it would be a big hit i believe. At random times people can join the tables play some poker and chat a little. If not Poker maybe Chess or checkers.

Possible or Not? And if it was would you consider it?

Too many, definitely. But Darwin's law ends up winning out, as the strong survive (only a handful) while a few fight it out for second tier status (some hang on continually), while a bunch come and go.

interesting question to ask when you are the newest forum to be started. Obviously you do not think there are too many otherwise why would you have started this one?

WT, I think this forum may have some other forums on the endangered species list. MAY'N!
SHRINK, EOG.com has become by home page. I think you have attracted some of the best/smartest posters in the field in only one month, and as the football season moves along I expect the interest to skyrocket. I especially love my liberal buddies ZZ and XPANDA down below. LOL. GREAT JOB!!! I tell everyone I know to check out the new site! EOG.com

Ken,

How's it going?

Here's my thought on forums in our industry. First of all, you have to classify the forums, because right now you have "enquiry minds want to know" forums and then you have sports betting forums. You look at EOG, RX, MW and a few others, the main reason people go to these forums is for the pissing contest stuff and what book is stiffing which player. Granted, there are other forums at these sites that relate to sports, but it's not 100% focused on it.

Then when you look at site like ours at the PST, Every Edge, MJ (Could be considered as above), and a few others, these are "hard core" sports betting forums that concentrate strictly on sports handicapping.

Forums are like restaurants, some like variety and others are like specialty joints.

You forum looks nice. The only think i was looking for was more poker.
But overall it nice, still need to hire a brother. vbulletin is very powerful and have many functions, people need to learn to use them and stop complaining

Let me add....Forums that have allot of controversy are like car accidents, people just want to go in there and qawk to see what people are saying about other people. That's just the nature of the beast, for some reason, people love to read about other people's misery. And then you have the "on demand" visitors who need information for their own personal benefit.

Ron

First of all, I must say that I got no idea there are too forums on sports gambling.

The only sites that I visit regularly is THE SHRINK's old site, THE SHRINK's new site, and the OPU forum, because they're not too bad. OPU is okay but not as insightful as the Rx, not yet at any rate.

The other forums basically are "for degenerates only" type of forums. The so-called "hard core" sports betting forums - just a code pharse for "we are true degnerates"!

<HR>

The current state of eog.com is okay I guess.

The traffic may have or may not have reached expectations, but that is not really any of my business.

Just a couple of observations, in case traffic has not lived up to expectations.

The big drawback is there is no football forum. This is evident by the ratio of posts in the General section compared to the football section. About two weeks into eog.com's existence, the NFL exhibition season was in full swing. There were about 5:1 ratio of posts in the general section compared to the football section. If no one was interested in NFL during that time, it was understandable as it was only preseason.

Now with the season in full swing, the ratio of 5:1 still exist general section of the forum and the sports handicapping section of the forum, which surely indicates folks surf to the eog.com not for the football.

The general section of the forum essentially is a free-for-all, which is fine I think. If a newbie happens to surf to eog.com, I think they will find the light-heart banter of the general section to be fine too. However, if they're looking for something else, not sure if they will come back.

This is only my opinion, but being unfocused and disorganized is a drawback. I frequent military forums and investment markets speculation forums too. In the speculation forums, it is suppose to be a free-for-all, so that is how it is. In the military forums, no one posts tanks into the aviation sections. Tanks go into the ground forces section.

The point of the military forums wanting the items posted into the correct sections is that it maintains focus. If people posting things all over the place, people wind up forgetting what they are talking about and the forum drifts directionlessly. If you want to talk about a tank, you post it into the tank section and talk about them tanks. Post it anywhere else, folks might miss the post or forget about they are talking about because of the distractions.

In summary, 1) no football forum, 2) forum seems unfocused.

Polaris,

Thanks for your honest feedback....

Since you brought up my OLD place, I have observed the following...

In just a little over THREE WEEKS, EOG'S main forum usually has about HALF as many people viewing it compared to you know who, lol...

I am VERY pleased with this because it took 10 years to get that type of traffic over there and to narrow the gap by 50% in such a short time on EOG is a good thing, IMHO...

As for the SPORTS FORUMS, I agree that we are really behind. I don't understand why but I do also know it took an extremely long time for the same forums to become popular at my OLD place as well...

Posters make Friends and I don't expect them to RUSH on over here just because of me.

Ideally, I want people to come to EOG'S forums because they like what our POSTERS bring to this site, they like our sports books, they know we won't take crappy or questionable ones, and hopefully that means something to them, and finally, they know that The General and I would go to bat for them in a heart beat if ever a dispute arises...

Overall, I am very GRATEFUL that we have a GREAT CORE contributing QUALITY posts over here on a DAILY basis..

Sorry for being so long winded but I am passionate about this, too..

Polaris, nice post. Your points are already noted and since we are still in diapers, just over 3 weeks old, I am very happy with the turnout. It takes time and we didn't open this site to take over the forum world. It is others who want to think this. We never said that. We are here to have fun, talk sports, betting and sportsbooks. Patience is very important in any business. Time is needed to develop as we wish. There have been several bumps in the road as expected. Some will like what we have and some will not. We will try to make the majority happy.
