Walsh, who coached the 49ers to three of their five Super Bowl crowns, agrees with Rooney in some respects, though he believes there is a pecking order. He places the Steelers first, the 49ers second and the Patriots third. He even said the Patriots would remain at No. 3 even if they win their fourth Super Bowl in five years next February in Detroit.
"Could New England stand up to the Steelers defense of the '70s? No chance," Walsh said Tuesday by phone. "And I don't think they had near the balance the 49ers had during (the Super Bowl) years."
