Either Favre or his agent, Bus Cook, reportedly contacted the Packers to inform them of his intentions to play again. When the Packers said they've moved on, Favre demanded to be released. The Packers refused. GM Ted Thompson and coach Mike McCarthy are currently on vacation and unavailable for comment. There is no doubt Favre talked to coach Mike McCarthy about coming back two weeks ago, despite Favre's claims to the contrary. It's also clear through Favre's family and this report that Thompson doesn't want Favre back. The Gazette says Favre would have "un-retired" as early as May if Thompson had asked him back, but that didn't happen. Thompson reportedly isn't returning Favre's agents calls. This is all a little childish on both sides, but Favre can force Thompson's hand by being definitive about his plans. It's debatable whether he'll be willing to do so.

Brett Favre - QB - Packers

ProFootballTalk.com reports that Brett Favre's agent is privately saying that he wants to play for the Panthers.
There's not really an obvious reason for wanting to play in Carolina, but it's close to his hometown in Mississippi. He clearly feels he'd win the starting job over Jake Delhomme, and that the Panthers have a team that will compete in the NFC. If Favre really wants to make this interesting, he'd play for the Bears. The Rock Hill Herald does not believe going to the Panthers will be an option if Brett Favre comes off the reserve/retired list.
The Herald doesn't dispute that Favre might want to play in Carolina, but believes the team is satisfied with Jake Delhomme and Matt Moore as their top QBs. It's a particularly big vote of faith in Moore, a 2007 undrafted rookie. Jul. 3 - 5:58 p.m. ET

This all may a bunch of BS. Favre is a JOKER.. Anyone who doubts this has not seen the butt slapping, etc. He may have well said "Oh yeah, if I were to leave, I would go with the Panthers." (with a wink to the reporter like he meant it)
Quoted from much research

Favre's only response on Wednesday was a brief text message to the Biloxi (Miss.) Sun-Herald. When asked by the paper about the report about him wanting to return, Favre said, "It's all rumor." When asked about a possible media firestorm, Favre said, "No reason for it."

Asked of Brett Favre's reported interest in Carolina, Panthers GM Marty Hurney said "I don't know where these things come from."
Profootballtalk.com reported Thursday that Favre is privately saying he wants to be a Panther, while the LA Times more recently reported that Tampa Bay, Carolina, Chicago, and Minnesota are all potential landing spots. Re: Favre Requested Release From Packers

from The Brett Favre story sure seems familiar - Los Angeles Times

"He felt like that the last couple of years, that the Packers didn't really want him back," Bonita Favre told WITI-TV. ". . . You know, it's just been bits and pieces throughout the last couple of years, things would come up, and it just didn't seem like they went out of their way to keep him. It was kind of like, 'You're done.' "

Meanwhile, Favre's brother told a Milwaukee station that he can envision No. 4 playing for another franchise if the Packers don't want him back.

"I don't see why not," Scott Favre told WTMJ-TV this week. "I'm sure plenty of other teams would want him. If the Packers decide it's time to move on, it's time for Brett to move on, if that's the case."

Scott Favre put the chances of his brother coming out of retirement at 50/50.

"There's no doubt he can play," he said. "He's in good shape. He's working out. . . . He's healthy, so, if he did, it wouldn't surprise me."

It's the logical next step. King writes the Packers clearly don't want him back, so this would force the issue. They'd have to let Favre play or get rid of him, both of which sound frightening. They could also try one last time to convince him not to play. King believes that ultimately the Packers would take him back, risking the chance they alienate Aaron Rodgers. Another option would be if Favre agrees not to join one of their NFC North rivals.

Although the Packers won't address reports until Brett Favre makes an official statement, it's clear that the team is trying to pressure him to stay retired.
Said Packers Chairman Emeritus Bob Harlan: "What I remember about him is he was ready to retire, and that's how I feel today." President and CEO Mark Murphy acknowledges the gravity of the situation, but added he thinks it's pretty reasonable that the organization is moving on. Receiver James Jones emphasized that Aaron Rodgers "is the guy, OK? It was great playing with Brett Favre . . . [but] it's Aaron Rodgers' time now." Brett Favre told FOXNews' Greta Van Susteren in Monday's interview that the Packers asked him for a list of team's he's willing to be traded to.
Favre also said wants to be on a competitive team. Presumably, the Pack would rather not deal Favre inside the conference and will certainly not let him go to an intradivision rival. The Dolphins would seem Green Bay's ideal option, but they went 1-15 last year. We're speculating, but GM Ted Thompson may have to suck it up and send Favre to Tampa. Re: Favre Requested Release From Packers/Brett Favre Drama

Brett Favre - QB - Packers

A "source close to Brett Favre" has indicated the quarterback will petition the league for reinstatement sooner rather than later.
The growing animosity between Favre and the Packers will make it tough for him to return to Green Bay. In last night's interview with Fox News, Favre made it clear that he wants to play football this year even though he acknowledged that circumstances may make it difficult. Favre's reinstatement petition would put the ball in the team's court, and they would have to add him to the 80-man roster or release him. As a release is out of the question, and Favre does not want to go to camp just to "stick it to" the Packers, the most likely scenario for Favre's return to the playing field remains a trade. The agent for Brett Favre denies a Green Bay Press-Gazette report that his client will apply for reinstatement from retirement "sooner rather than later."
The obvious question is: Why? If Favre is so set on coming back, there is no reason he'd wait to petition the NFL for reinstatement. The agent says Favre wouldn't want to be fined $15,000 daily for skipping training camp practices, but retiring in March showed Favre was willing to forgo his $12 million salary anyway. We're fairly certain this matter doesn't revolve around money. Jul. 16 - 2:38 p.m. ET

The Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel suggests that the Packers' shopping of Brett Favre so far may be "to satisfy Favre and the NFL and nothing else."
The NFL wants Green Bay to move on from Favre because it's a tired story, but GM Ted Thompson has to do what's best for his club. Escalating to a third-rounder is the most likely scenario. Favre will start, but don't expect him to reproduce last year's QB1 numbers in a new system.
