Good information. Seems for short putts, the stick should be pulled. As Rail says, for longer putts keep it in, attended, better visibility, and so a putt that's dead-on and too hard can be stopped by the flag.

That’s why on longer putts you would always see the caddy tending the flag and then pulling it when the ball got closer....very good visual aid.....

The pin gives you a smaller focus area to aim. A practice tip is to put a TEE in the back of the hole and aim for that to improve.

golf will get better to watch when they have all the holes / golfers available on streaming or TV any time you want.
