Congratulations to the Las Vegas Golden Knights

That was one hell of a ride and gave this team ticket sales momentum for years to come after this historic season. Will never be duplicated. Ever.

Caps were just too talented in the end.

Looking forward to watching this team grow even more through the years.

Well done boys!

Hopefully they embrace the Raiders.....never thought I would see the day that Vegas would get a professional franchise..
Good for Sin City.....can the NBA or MLB be far behind?

It was a tremendous run...don't see Vegas vying for the Cup again for a very long time.....

Las Vegas is a basketball town.

Seems like a natural.

A retractable roof is needed for Major League Baseball.

Mike Fisher came out of retirement today. Couldn't handle another year sitting at home with Carrie Underwood. Gimme the Preds for the limit.

Their prospects will only get stronger and stronger. They have money to burn under the cap. They have more quality draft picks in the upcoming years than any team in the league. This will not be a hockey hotbed team with meadia coverage like the Canadian teams or the original 6, but guys no doubt will want to play here. Their GM has proven he knows how to build a team, and owner that will spare noting to put a winner on the ice and fill the seats.

I think this this comment is way off Heim.

They said the same thing about Marino and the Dolphins in '85 and he never went back to the Super Bowl. VGK had career years from many & Fluery had his best save percentage in the playoffs until the Final. Luck plays a pivotal role in this kind of stuff. Playoff team for sure.

Re: Congratulations to the Las Vegas Golden Knights

Apples and hand grenades. They may never make it back cause luck can be a pretty big factor. But they weren’t just a team in the finals cause Fluerry had an outstanding playoffs. They did it all season long and finished atop the division. And yes it was a magical season. But a team this young with deep playoff experience already and a stockpile of high draft picks they can use to improve the team along the way as well and continue to stock to farm club at the same time is something teams would give their left nut for.
Players get hurt and need to be replaced on contending teams and they can’t do much cause damn near every team is tippy toeing on the cap ceiling. It’s a luxury very few teams are ever put in this position. I don’t believe any of their 3 no. 1 draft picks even touched the ice of the big club this year. That more than likely won’t happen again. And no, they won’t sneak up on anyone next year. But by the time the playoffs rolled around, they weren’t sneaking up on anyone then. Oddsmaker have them listed as the 2nd choice with a few others. For a damn good reason.

Re: Congratulations to the Las Vegas Golden Knights

If you had told the Knights before the season began they would Lose the Cup Finals and would they accept that..................

...............you would have gotten a UNANIMOUS.........YES! Hurts now - as it should - but no way this season was anything other than more successful than anyone could have imagined

As for the next few seasons I can see it going either way

Build on this with all of the Cap room and draft picks they have. Free Agents saw what it was like there and will want to play in a State with NO State Taxes

OR

Going from the Hunter to the Hunted makes a massive difference. How many guys were extra motivated this season to show their old team how much they "messed up" for letting them go? Most players on this team were in the last year of their contract meaning they can leave OR it will cost more to keep them thus affecting their depth

I really have no idea how things will go. But to expect this next year is unrealistic. Then again if Holtby doesn't make the save of the season on Tuch in G2 and that game goes to OT, gotta make Knights the fave to win that game and if they win and go UP 2-0 this series is definitely still going and who knows how it ends

How many years before Sweet Lou gets the Islanders back in the mix?

If JT doesn't walk, Lou will fix many of their ills in short order. What is their number for next year? Probably over 50-1.

Re: Congratulations to the Las Vegas Golden Knights

Yep not sure JT is as big a priority as most people think. He has 10 years in the league now and Lou has a history of taking over a team breaking it down and building it back up correctly

Re: Congratulations to the Las Vegas Golden Knights

So the Capitals won the Cup? Does that make them the best team in the league? Of course not, and anyone who thinks otherwise is foolish. The Capitals won the spring tournament, the game of breaks and momentum swings. If they were that good, why did not one person pick them to win before the playoffs started? Cause its a total crapshoot. I watched the first two games of the Caps/Jacket series, and Jackets went up 2-0 and had the Caps on life support in Game 3 in round 1.........but the Caps score a goal in double OT that goes in off a Jackets D, getting a huge break, and built off that momentum. C'mon if the Jackets win Game 3 and score that OT goal, then Trotz is done, then OV has another underperforming playoff. Congrats to the Caps for capitalizing on all the little breaks that were needed. There's no guarantee Washington or Vegas goes far in the playoffs next year. Regular season and playoffs are two different seasons. The best team during the regular season, doesnt necessarily win the Cup, that's just part of the quirkiness of hockey.

Of course there are no guarantees that the best team wins anything. Who was the top team after last season - those Chicago Blackhawks. They got swept out of the first round.

Re: Congratulations to the Las Vegas Golden Knights

Isles problems are more than just resigning Tavares... When's the last time they've had a #1 goalie? This is the team that is still paying Rick Di Pietro till 2021(signed him to a 15 years contract in 2006).

Their D hasn't been the same since they traded Hamonic. They are paying Boychuk and Leddy 6 and 5.5 for the next 4 years and neither one is a front line guy you're going to go to battle with in the playoffs. Their best Dman DeHaan is a UFA as is Hickey while Pulock is a RFA. They are going to have to overhaul that D and they don't have any studs coming through.

They have a nice talented mix at FW and with just 13 players under contract there is some flexibility but they have 45 mill already tied up... Add 10 for Taveres and say 6M for DeHaan you're gonna have to get very creative to get 8 more players in under the cap(max 20M, as low at 14M if it doesn't go up at all).

Personally, I think the Isles' best option at this point is a sign and trade for Tavares if he's not willing to sign long term with them but that's unlikely to be the path chosen by Lou, he ain't got the time to build this from the ground up.

taking 50-1 on Isles right now is -EV even under the best scenario possible.

James Neal stated he knows of many players that would love to play for the VGK's.

With an excellent GM, excellent home ice, good percentage of roster returning, and a good amount of young talent in the lower ranks it makes for an optimistic future ahead for the VGK

First ever draft pick Cody Glass will probably start the season with the big club next season.

It will almost certainly be in the 88-93 or so range. They can attract free agents or people like Erik Karlsson who has 1 year left on his deal and there is a 0% chance he re-signs with the Senators after next season. But like the Seahawks who were paying Russell Wilson next to nothing allowing them to pay the defense a lot, players will now need more money to come back and that means less for others and other top players. Vegas is now no longer the HUNTER but the HUNTED and that makes a massive difference. Reality is gonna bite them hard next season. They might still make the playoffs but to expect the same or better next season as this one is unrealistic

Fair point but if they fail to win a series next season it won't shock me.

Re: Congratulations to the Las Vegas Golden Knights

I know hockey has changed since my first incarnation as a hockey fan as a kid with the Bruins in the early 70's.

But I think that the Knights need some enforcers. The Bruins had Esposito and Orr, but they also had guys like Ken Hodge and Wayne Cashman on the wings. You flat didn't fuck with those guys.

And the Knights got pushed around and bullied to a significant extent this finals by Washington.

Kind of interesting that it was two teams with heavy McPhee footprints on them in the finals. But I would look to add some -- smart (few penalties) -- muscle.

Grace amidst brutality is how I think of hockey.
