Cosmopolitan to fill thousands of jobs through online fair
Updated: Sep 28, 2010 7:37 PM EDT
Las Vegas, NV-The Cosmopolitan Hotel Casino is going full throttle tonight to fill thousands of jobs ahead of its grand opening at the end of the year. And they're doing it in a way that hasn't been done before with a virtual hiring process.
It looks the traditional job fair with crowds of people waiting in long lines to speak with recruiters at booths may be a thing of the past, at least for The Cosmopolitan. They decided to go with a web based approach giving potential candidates the opportunity to apply for any job, from home or anywhere they have access to Internet.
The Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas is in search of 5,000 employees and has decided to look for them online. The virtual job fair kicked off today just before noon and will run through this evening. The cyber format of the event allows job seekers to apply for any opening by simply logging on to The Cosmopolitans' web site. Once there, they can click on exhibitor booths and get information on the various positions.
"We'll have videos so people can learn more about the cosmopolitan and even talk to managers in a real live time chat," said Sherry Harris, chief strategy officer at Cosmopolitan.
Resort officials say the online job fair is not only designed to tap into a tech savvy work force, but to also help the hiring process become much more efficient; cutting down on time and hiring related expenses. Yet we couldn't help but ask whether there's a down side to this cyber format.
"One of the disadvantages is that you do lose that immediate face to face interaction. But we will invite people in for an audition and one on one interviews so we can meet them," added Harris.
Cosmopolitan representatives say it's not too late to apply for any jobs, and will continue to accept applications until all positions are filled.
