Tonight. Here are direct quotes

” i can’t believe how understaffed we are and the PPE we have compared to rest of world
the virus doesn’t differentiate , we intubated a 23 year old today
it’s crazy in here, been here 3 hours and we had seven rapid responses so far , insane
we have moms and babies with covid
we don’t have enough room in our morgue. ,using trucks with freezers and senior center across street“

living in NY right now is experiencing life in a war zone. This is an unbelievable and unimaginable horror
I am scared and anxiety is also inexplicable

Your "nurse friend" took time out of her crazy day to text you this?

My neighbor is a trauma nurse at UMC in Las Vegas. Spoke with her briefly and she was surprised at how normal of a day it was today. She stated they were focused on keeping beds open for the anticipated uptick in numbers. Last week it was "can you keep an eye on our house?" Today she was home by 5. Hopefully that's a good sign.

yes, they get breaks, I was arranging buying her crew dinner. There’s a big movement in NY to contribute to these amazing medical staff warriors. At 7 pm nightly people stand on balcony and applaud them as a way of thanking and supporting them. It was authentic direct quote , why would someone living this fabricate facts. Crazy line of thinking. Anyway, people set up charities that send meals to hospitals.

The front lines. These people are Saints.

You know who is being under recognized in all this? People working at grocery stores. Those are the front lines right now in a different sense. And these people make pennies.

God help them..

Good to hear.

On March 17, it was announced Nevada casinos would be closed for 30 days.

All room reservations were canceled from March 18 to April 16.

Atlantic City casinos at last word closed for at least 2 weeks here in the Northeast around the same time of the Last Vegas snnouncement. However news reports are speculating realisticslly that it could be all tolled approximately more like 2 months, as a new target is set for Mid-May depending upon warranting conditions.

Four Winds Casino here just announced an indefinate closing. I am thinking April is out and May is looking bleaker by the day.

Great point on grocery store clerks! For years I’ve purposely avoided the self checkout line feeling it encouraged layoffs.

They just closed? Unreal. I thought all casinos have been closed for the last 2 weeks. Must be on sovereign land.

About a week ago, the American Gaming Association (AGA) had a press release that 97% of the 524 Indian casinos had closed. A few with convenience stores were still open. Some Govenors (Inslee, WA, DeSantis, FLA, et al) played the "sovereignty" card and refused to force the tribal casinos to close.

The tribal land is subject to state and federal law due to the Indian treaties ratified long ago. So they are not sovereign in the normal sense of the word. I remember a case in Washington state several years ago where incumbent tribal leaders were declared unelected and illegitimate and a federal agency (National Indian Gaming Commission) shut down the tribe's casino as a result.

The Sovereign card is real Bob. They respect the states, but in reality their gaming is mostly regulated by federal laws. When they sign gaming compacts they basically state here is how we are going to work and in most cases they are operating like a state themselves. They regulate themselves and make rules that are only overseen at a federal level. If a state disagrees with the way the casino rules work, they have to get a federal order to change them. The states can't go in and shut them down without a federal order.

At first it appeared some tribal casinos would stay open because they could, but almost all shut down now because there is little demand and their employees are scared shitless to work in them.

Nonsense. There is no sovereign right to allow casinos to harbor a deadly virus and allow customers to transport it off reservations. Of course, by the supremacy clause any constitutional federal law applies over any conflicting state law.

Sure Bob, believe that if you want. These are the facts of sovereignty. Governors cannot shut their operations down. They can ask nicely, they can try to shame them. But they have no power over them and if they did try it would be a massive issue down the road. Tribes can't stop it because they don't keep troops on hand, but they would have a clear cut case and could sue for massive damages. And if anyone were to be wounded in any fighting to resist the takeover, that's blood on a governors hands.

At a min a state could block the entrances to the reservation by the public, so no one could gamble anyway.

Again typical nonsensical spew. Governors and states have plenary power to create Indian casinos if they so choose. Yeah, tribes cannot have standing armies, no foreign policy, etc. ergo no "real sovereignty". All a Governor would have to do is limit public access to roads to the casino. At a minimum, Inslee could have just asked the federal Indian agency close them. Hard to believe you seriously think that there would be a clear-cut case for damages, in what world? Under a right to infect thousands of customers just because they are a tribe? Talk about a lawsuit against the tribe for massive damages.

Ever ask yourself why there are no Indian casinos in Utah? The answer is the state (and Governor) has never enabled them. Now if the tribes are sovereign, why in the world not have a few in Utah? There are plenty of Indian tribes in Utah.

Have you ever been to West Wendover, NV on the Utah border? Very profitable, packed with folks from Utah. Why wouldn't tribes have at least a few profitable casinos in Utah? Answer is again, the state won't let them.

Bob I have been all over the country and world to see casinos. I'm about as knowledgeable on the subject as can be. I have worked with lawyers on this issue and trust me you are just assuming a lot. The reason why they can't have casinos is because the federal court ruling states they can only have the same gaming as is legal in the state. So yes you could say the states control their gaming. However once that gaming has been approved the state loses the right to dictate terms to the Tribes. Compacts don't have to be agreed to by the states so in some cases like California there is more gambling than there might have been if voters didn't agree to it. So if Utah doesn't want casinos they are free to keep them out and that's the situation there. But look at Oklahoma, the governor is over a barrel and can't stop the Tribes from dictating terms to him even as he swears he can call the shots. Same thing played out years ago in Florida, governor just had to give up as sign the compact with the Seminoles or else get nothing from them and have no way to stop them.
