Not sure why this guy isn't mentioned in the group of elite starting pitchers. Another gem today; complete game shutout. Here's his numbers since the start of the 2011 season:

506 innings
136 earned runs
2.42 ERA
37-18 win/loss record

The only pitcher w/over 500 innings w/a better ERA in that period is Clayton Kershaw.

Reds should've been about -185 today over SD.

Like Tanaka, Cueto finally had his first rough outing of the season last night. He should've been pitching a shutout into the 6th. Red errors were the cause of the first two runs of the night for Washington. But even in the first 5 innings, Cueto was pitching from behind as he constantly found himself in 3 ball counts.

The Cubs were the first team to face Tanaka for the second time. After getting shut out by Tanaka in New York last month, they got to him for 8 hits in 6 innings last night. So many of his pitches end up out of the strike zone; have to think teams will try to take a more patient approach and lay off the cutters.

Re: Cueto

Cueto pitching today against the Padres at Petco. The total? 5 1/2.

Really tempted to take the run and a half, considering the high likelihood of a one run game.

Re: Cueto

Kershaw has had a great season and gets tons of publicity but isn't Cueto in the consideration for the NL Cy Young? Both now have 18 wins; Cueto's ERA at 2.15 in a much more hitter friendly park than Kershaw. And considering how poorly the Reds have hit this year, winning 18 games for that team is no small feat.
