Deontay Wilder vs Luis Ortiz 2 is only four days away...

Is this the heavyweight fight that should not be happening?

After Anthony Joshua's little Crystal Palace was torn down by Andy Ruiz Jr, people were talking about why Joshua had risked the big money fights with Wilder and fury for a padding fight that went wrong. Now, if Joshua had beaten Ruiz Jr Hearn and Joshua would have continued to be the top draw in the heavyweight division.

In Wilder's case, he has the rematch with Tyson Fury set as a big money match. Fury took some fights as well and he won, but Fury fans were biting there nails a bit when he was cut badly in his last outing. Why fight Orrtiz now? Is it just to match Fury fight for fight?

Now Wilder did beat Ortiz in ttheir first meeting, but he had some rocky moments. Could Ortiz pull a "Ruiz" here and derail Wilder's big money fight? Comments blow - this fight is next weekend, on the 23rd of November. Check your local listings for start times on PPV.

Wilder enters the fight a big favorite. Bet $100 on Ortiz, win $460 back - these are from 5dimes -

When it comes to money and Cashing in, Wilder and Joshua are Idiots.

That Match Up had a HUGE PAYDAY a few years ago.

Maybe they could have already Cashed in AGAIN , by now on THE REMATCH.

But all the EGOS get in the way, including the Promotors, whom the Fighters listen to.

But Joshua Scheduled a Fight , here in the States, against Ruiz and got his clocked cleaned.

Diminishing the Purse for a Wilder Fight.

It reminded me of Mayweather and Pacquiao talking about facing each other for 5 years before they actually did.

Completely agree it is bad egos involved here. I'm OK with the fighters having an ego but why do I have to deal with promoters and TV execs as middlemen who have massive egos a well.

I gotta be honest with you, even with VADA drug testing, supposedly the most advanced testig there is, I hold ZERO HOPE that we have a clean sport.

We are in fight week as the fight is roughly five days away. Check your local listings for the PPV start time on Saturday.

Wilder now -650, whereas 10 days out he was at -620.

Tyson Fury is off doing WWE while he awaits the results of this fight. A Wilder win means that we will get Fury vs Wilder 2 somewhere in the first half of 2020.

Ortiz had a chance to beat Wilder in their first fight as he hurt Wilder who hung on and made it to the end of the round.

Here is some speculation but plausible IMO - Ortiz recently turned down the Anthony Joshua fight that wound up crowning Andy Ruiz Jr, and with $five million on the table, money couldn't have been the issue. One expert I spoke to theorized that Ortiz may have been stereoid "hot" at the time and had to turn the fight down because he wouldn't have passed the tests.

If now he has cycled off enough that he can fight, then we may be seeing an optimal version of Ortiz. How does a 40 year old get stronger and faster? Send an SOS to the world, you can find it in a bottle.

So at what point does Ortiz become appealing as an underdog? Right now he is kicking back at $475. The big Cigaro does have a good bit of skill and he is a hard puncher. Some people think that if he had 30 more seconds against Wilder when he hurt him, we would have been talking about a new champion.

Can you imagine if Tyson Fury is the only one of the big heavyweights that stays undefeated? If Wilder loses this weekend, the rhetoric from the Fury camp will be deafening. He might stay in WWE if that happens, lol.

It is an intangible, but it does seem like ALL the players really need Wilder to win. Fury needs him to win. PBC/Showtime, ESPN, BT Sport will all do much better financially with a Wilder win. If Ortiz were to win, he might have to say "I'm sorrry" at the post fight press conference for messing up so many plans.

No over/under lines at 5dimes yet, that is where these lines are from. Check your sport books for "kinder' lines for every fight. Thoughts? Comments below are appreciated!

A boxing ring is set up in the lobby of MGM Grand Hotel and Casino.

Love the feel of fight week in Las Vegas.

A question for TheOddsGuy: Why aren't boxing undercards promoted like UFC undercards, especially from a gambling standpoint?

It seems following young boxing stars rising up the ladder is reserved only for the sport's loyal diehards.

Hey John. I would say there are a lot of factors in the business of boxing that affect the marketing. In the case of a hot prospect, they will usually "hyper" manage his early opponents. So if he is -0 for example, he may face a guy with a record of 2-20. Why do this fight? the guy might be a lefty, or he might have one standout weapon that you want your guy to see. Not really much for your ticket sales to use as publicity, and the fight might not be that appealing.

It is important to get your fighter ring time and experience and in boxing, if the fighter can do that and sell tickets and make money, it is a huge plus.

I do think we will see boxing follow the UFC's model more closely in the next few years, especially if Dana White finally does cross over and promote boxing as well.

Well it is all over but the punches to the face as the fight is set to go off in Las Vegas in just a few hours here. 5dimes has Wilder at -500 which means a little bit of cash has come in on the underdog in Ortiz.

Ortiz is one of those guys that sometimes says and does things that are off the wall, like turning down the fight with Joshua for instance. Now he is going to get a second crack at Wilder and at a world title. I am going to ask the simplest of questions here - Which fighter winning has more upside for the sport of boxing?

I think this is a no brainer. Wilder is not where he wants to be yet but a win here will get him to the Fury rematch. Assume Joshua rehabs himself or toss Andy Ruiz Jr in the mix and Wilder has a good chance at being the high paying "A" side for several big fights in 2020. An Ortiz win would leave Tyson Fury without a belt as the only undefeated guy, and it would doom us to Wilder/Ortiz 3 before anything else can happen in the weight class. Wilder winning is what is good for boxing on the business end.

Wilder has done a lot on the hype train, but there is a sub-segment of boxing purists that still remember his swimming KO over Gerald Washington that lacked for technique. Wilder also appeared to be hurt against Ortiz in the 7th round of their first meeting which adds to the feeling that a sound boxer like Ortiz may have a chance.

I have a hunch here. This one is going to get emotional and ends up being two big men throwing haymakers from the early going. If both men throw everything they have into the early rounds and the opponent is still up, it might go the distance. but I don't think it will. They are going to taste each other's power and tha twill lead to an escalation type of situation. someone is going down early in this one.

Below are the odds as they stand just a few hours before fight time. The over/under is set at 6 1/2, which is interesting considering that the first fight ended in the 11th. Please comment below - much appreciated.

Well, the big exchange I thought this would deteriorate into has not happened. "Methodical" is a nice way to say boring folks....

And just like that, it is over. Wilder, KO in 7. One punch KO, almost in the literal sense in that I think he threw one punch the whole fight.

The fallout has been a lot more hype for Deontay Wilder and Im not trying to be critical but that performance was nothing really to write home about, was it?

Wilder seemed to sit back and wait for the big punch from the get go, and he was proably giving away some rounds. Now, the KO nullifies that, but he is NOT PERFECT when it comes to KOs, he failed to KO Stiverne the first time they met and he didn't knock Fury out in their draw.

I harken back to the Gerald Washington fight, where Wilder didn't punch enough in the early going and seemed to rely on one big punch for the KO. Really at heavyweight, this makes a guy like Oleksandr Usyk extremely dangerous for Wilder - a high skill guy with a lot of output.

Now, Wilder will get Tyson Fury next for a big money re-match and I am all for it. Joshua still has a lot to show and prove where he is at after the Ruiz loss. The winner of fury-Wilder 2 will be the top guy in the heavyweight division.
