It was about three weeks ago that Jerome Corsi, author of "Where's the Birth Certificate? The Case That Barack Obama Is Not Eligible to Be President," called me with some disturbing news.

In response to the success of his book (No. 1 at Amazon in pre-release stage) and the elevation of the eligibility issue because of Donald Trump's big megaphone, his sources in Hawaii were telling him that Barack Obama was about to release a fraudulent birth certificate.

Corsi urged that WND report the story. But because of the nature of the warnings, I didn't think it would be meaningful. What good would it do to report that unnamed sources investigating Obama's eligibility expected him to do something he had resisted doing for two-and-a-half years?

Details were thin. Who would pay attention?

In retrospect, it probably was not the right call.

But I was not surprised when the White House delivered the document that Hawaii officials had previously stated unequivocally was not available to anyone, even Barack Obama himself.

Since the release of what I consider to be, at best, an inauthenticatable image of a document, Corsi has returned to Hawaii for more on-the-ground, first-hand investigation ? and the results are startling.

Far from putting the critical issue of constitutional eligibility behind him, Obama has opened a Pandora's box of questions and controversies that no single document may ever be able to address definitively.

I am more certain today than ever before that this issue will haunt Obama through Election Day 2012 ? if, indeed, he goes through with his plans to seek re-election.

The key question is no longer, "Where's the birth certificate?" The key question today is, "Where's the real birth certificate?" More broadly, how will we even recognize it when we see it? There are probably more alleged "birth certificates" floating around for Barack Obama than for anyone who has ever lived. And the one posted on the White House website, bearing the weight of the office of the presidency, is highly suspect indeed.

  • A thousand and one professional and amateur sleuths and document experts have examined what Obama has released and found it wanting.

  • A private detective who has been investigating Obama's eligibility for years has claimed the White House release is actually one of three fraudulent versions of his birth certificate cooked up within the Hawaii health department.

  • It turns out that questions about Obama's citizenship ? not just his "natural born citizen" status, but his basic citizenship ? have been investigated by the U.S. government since the time of his birth right up through the 2008 election cycle.

  • In Kenya, the government has launched its own investigations as to the possibility Obama was actually born there ? and found documents missing during the time period of his birth.
If there is any legitimacy to Obama's story about his nativity in Hawaii, he may have waited too long to persuade a very skeptical American public. And his unwillingness to release school records, college records, university records, travel records, information about his Social Security number and more have convinced at least half the public that he cannot be trusted to disclose information that runs contrary to his official life story.
It's about to get much worse for Obama.

We are just days away from several more shoes dropping.

Those who believed the issue of eligibility had been settled once and for all are in for the shock of their life.

Barack Obama's authenticity as president is moving back to center stage ? and I'm not sure he can do anything about it at this point.

Pardon the pun, but he's played his Trump card too late ? and wholly unconvincingly.

I know it goes against all conventional wisdom today to say this, but we may be witnessing the final days of the Barack Obama regime.

<table align="right" border="0"> <tbody><tr> <td width="327">
Emmanuel Kisombe
</td> </tr> </tbody></table>
Documents obtained by WND indicate the Kenyan government investigated the possibility that President Obama was born in the East African nation.
Two letters purportedly written by Kenya's immigration secretary during the 2008 U.S. presidential election campaign stated that officials in Nairobi could not find evidence Obama was born in Kenya. But the official said the government had "information" that relevant birth records may have been removed or were missing.

Emmanuel Kisombe, the permanent secretary in the Ministry for Immigration and Registration of Persons, wrote a letter in July 2008 in reply to a letter from the U.S. ambassador in Nairobi that raised the possibility with Kenyan officials that Obama was born in their country.

Kisombe wrote another letter on the issue, this time to Kenya's Criminal Investigation Department, a few days before the Nov. 4 presidential election in the U.S.

Kisombe, 56, has been in public service since 1979, according to his bio. He became principal administrative secretary in the Office of the President in 2004 and was appointed permanent secretary for Immigration and Registration of Persons on Dec. 7, 2005.

His Oct. 22, 2008, letter to Simon Karanja Gatiba, director of the Criminal Investigation Department, indicated an investigation into the possibility Obama was born in Kenya was instigated at the level of the Kenyan Cabinet.

Kisombe wrote to Gatiba:
We have instructions from the Head of Civil Service and Secretary to the Cabinet carrying out directions of the Cabinet sub-committee on Security and Foreign Relations to investigate and report on efficacy of reports that Senator Barack Obama, the Democratic Party aspirant in the United States could be Kenyan-born.
Kisombe said the Kenyan government investigation was prompted by "numerous intelligence reports that [Obama] might have been born in Mombasa at the Lady Grigg Maternity Wing of the Coast Provincial Hospital."

Kisombe noted that the Kenyan government's inability to find Obama birth records was not conclusive, because "the information we in the ministry have is that some documents have been removed by unknown persons at unknown dates or are missing from birth registry records thus denting the prospects of uncovering the facts of this matter." 2938u4ji23

He wrote:
This tampering, if confirmed, constitutes a serious offense that is punishable by law and it behooves your office to track down the culprits and bring them to justice. My officers have been instructed to fully cooperate as the Kenya Police Criminal Investigation Department performs this task.
Here is the entirety of the Kisombe letter:
<table align="center" border="0"> <tbody><tr> <td width="840">

</td> </tr> </tbody></table> According to the letter's second page, copies were to be distributed to the following government offices:

<table align="center" border="0"> <tbody><tr> <td width="840">

</td> </tr> </tbody></table> A July 4, 2008, letter by Kisombe to U.S. Amb. Michael Ranneberger in Nairobi, marked "Confidential," was a response to an inquiry from the U.S. regarding the possibility that Obama had birth records in Kenya.

Kisombe replied that there were no records to indicate Obama was born in "the geographic confines of what is now known as the Republic of Kenya."

However, the Kenyan official said he could not say whether any documents or files "from the births registry at the Coast Provincial General Hospital are missing or tampered with."

Ranneberger, who was appointed to the Kenya post by President Bush in 2006, has been reassigned to Washington and reportedly is flying back to the U.S. today.

Ranneberger made many friends across Kenya but ran afoul of some politicians who accused him of meddling in Kenyan politics as he pressed for reforms. In cables released by Wikileaks late last year, he accused President Mwai Kibaki and Prime Raila Odinga of impeding reform, prompting a member of Parliament to file a censure motion against him.

President Obama has nominated retired Air Force Major Gen. Scott Gration, his current envoy to Sudan and one of his top military advisers, to replace Ranneberger.

The text of Kisombe's letter to Ranneberger reads, in part:

Dear Ambassador Ranneberger,
RE: BIRTH RECORDS FOR SENATOR BARACK HUSSEIN OBAMA.
Your letter of July 1, 2008 refers. I wish to confirm that there are neither records nor evidence held by my ministry or any departments thereunder that suggest that Senator Barack Hussein Obama was born within the geographical confines of what is now known as the Republic of Kenya. Further I am unable to confirm if any files from the births registry at the Coast Provincial General Hospital are missing or tampered with.
The letter's page 1:
<table align="center" border="0"> <tbody> <tr> <td width="680">
</td> </tr> </tbody> </table>
The letter's page 2:
<table align="center" border="0"> <tbody> <tr> <td width="680">
</td> </tr> </tbody> </table>
Kisombe did not reply to a WND request for comment, and Ranneberger was not immediately available because he is in the process of returning to the U.S.

Unlike the folks over at WorldNetDaily, who have been enriched by years of pumping up birtherism, Lakin's commitment to the conspiracy both torpedoed his career and put his family in financial peril. His website notes:
"Please consider making a special gift at this critical time. We have been able to provide for the family's monthly expenses, but contributions have dropped off since the release of the proposed birth document by the Obama administration."
Can anyone imagine a more tragic story emerging from the birther carnival?

<table align="right" border="0"> <tbody><tr> <td width="200">
President Barack Obama in the Oval Office April 4, 2011 </td> </tr> </tbody></table> The White House called it "proof positive" of Barack Obama's Hawaiian birth but there still are significant numbers of Americans – tens of millions in fact – who don't believe the online image of a "Certificate of Live Birth" represents the full and open truth.

According to a new Gallup Poll reported by USA Today, only 47 percent of those surveyed say they think Obama "definitely" was born in the United States.

An additional 18 percent say he "probably was."

But the poll, taken May 5-8 of 1,018 adults with a margin of error of plus or minus 4 percentage points, shows that 5 percent say he definitely was born elsewhere, another 8 percent say he probably was born elsewhere and 20 percent say they don't know enough to say.

<table align="center" border="0"> <tbody> <tr> <td width="622">
</td> </tr> </tbody> </table>
Extrapolated over the 300 million-plus population of the United States, that 33 percent would surpass 100 million doubters.

Gallup determined 10 percent of Republicans say Obama definitely was born elsewhere, 5 percent of independents and even 2 percent of Democrats.

Charles Franklin, a University of Wisconsin political scientist, told USA Today that the findings show the public no longer has faith in the "traditional" gatekeepers, such as the news media and top political leaders.

Obama released the image late last month, saying he had no time for such silliness as questions about his birth, then departed for an appearance on Oprah's television show.

Part of the doubt that remains could be attributable to a long list of analysts who have come out with statements casting doubt on the integrity of the online image posted by the White House.

Web document experts have questioned the document's authenticity, and a close inspection of the Hawaii Department of Health state registrar's official stamp on the birth records even reveals an apparent typographical error.

The stamp, affixed April 25, 2011, says "TXE RECORD."

Yet, on a copy of a Hawaii long-form birth certificate issued only one month earlier, the stamp says "THE RECORD."

Another recent poll reported by the Los Angeles Times revealed that the release of the White House image just weeks ago failed to convince a majority of Republicans.

That poll, by Public Policy Polling, said only 48 percent of Republicans said they believe Obama was born in the United States.

There, 34 percent said they did not believe Obama was born in the U.S. while 18 percent said they still aren't sure.

Another recent poll, by Zogby, said 16 percent still think Obama was not born in America.

Demographic groups besides Republicans expressing the highest levels of doubt about Obama's birth in the U.S. are conservatives at 34 percent, and those without a college degree, at 21 percent, vs. those with a degree, at 11 percent.

On April 26, the day before the release of the long-form birth certificate, a USA Today/Gallup poll revealed only 38 percent of Americans were convinced Obama definitely was born in the U.S. and another 18 percent said he probably was.

While the location of the birth has been drawing questions since before his election, a large number of people contend that Obama remains ineligible for the presidency even with a Hawaiian birth, as his father wasn't American.

They explain that the Founding Fathers, drawing from the writings of Emmerich de Vattel, believed being a "natural born Citizen," a constitutional requirement for presidents, is a citizen offspring of two citizen parents born on the nation's soil.

Under that definition, Obama cannot qualify for the office.

It was only a few months after Obama's inauguration that a WND/Wenzel Poll showed that 51.3 percent of Americans said they were aware of the questions raised about Obama's constitutional eligibility for office. Only 18.7 percent said they were not and another 30 percent were unsure.

At that point, 58.2 percent of the GOP said they were aware of the controversy.

Polls later revealed Americans to be increasingly skeptical of Obama's official narrative:

  • A survey by Angus Reid Global Monitor, a division of Vision Critical Group, in October 2009 found three in 10 people in the U.S. believed Obama to be a foreigner.

"While only 13 percent of Democratic Party supporters believe Obama was not born in the U.S., the proportion rises to 25 percent among independents and 51 percent among Republican Party backers," the report said.

  • Then in January 2010, another WND/Wenzel Poll revealed on the one-year anniversary of Obama's tenure in office that fully one-third of Americans refused to believe Obama was a "legitimate president," with another 15.8 percent saying they were not sure.

Barely half the voters, 51.5 percent, said they believed the president legitimate even though he had not yet produced the documentation proving his constitutional eligibility. Even 14.6 percent of the Democrats said they did not consider him legitimate.

  • In May 2010, a WND/Wenzel Poll revealed that 55 percent of Americans wanted Obama to release all records relating to his childhood and his education, including "college records, Harvard Law School papers, passport records, travel records, and other similar documentation."

"Asked what should be done should it be found that Obama does not meet the qualifications to be president, 59 percent said he should be removed from office, and 35 percent said all bills signed into law by Obama should be repealed," the poll's analysis revealed.

  • By last June, other media were beginning to put their toes in the waters of the controversy. A 60 Minutes-Vanity Fair poll revealed only 39 percent of respondents believe Obama was born in Hawaii as he claimed in his book.

"A shocking 63 percent – very nearly two-thirds of us – went out on a limb and stated for the record that we believe in the United States. It's enough to make you proud to be an American – or 63 percent proud, at any rate."

But that figure included those who said they believe he was born in Kansas or some other unknown state, which still would conflict with Obama's story.

  • Last August, a poll by CNN said 6 of 10 people were uncertain Obama was born in the U.S. The poll said only 42 percent believe Obama "definitely" was born in the U.S.

The CNN report said that, "Hawaii has released a copy of the president's birth certificate – officially called a 'certificate of live birth.' And in 1961 the hospital where the president was born placed announcements in two Hawaiian newspapers regarding Obama's birth."

However, the online image released by the Obama campaign during his presidential race actually is called a "Certification of Live Birth," and those documents under the rules in the state of Hawaii were available for children not born in the state.
While the numbers of those who believe Obama's story has risen following his release of the document image, the doubters still remain a significant part of the population.

A previously unexplained anomaly in the Obama long-form birth certificate released by the White House has now become even more suspicious, as WND has learned the document does not conform to Hawaii's standard practice for issuing certified copies of birth certificates.

While the governor's office maintains Obama was given a certified copy of his birth certificate, and while Hawaii ? WND has learned ? includes an embossed seal to complete the certification, the raised seal on the image posted by the White House ? is missing.

Furthermore, an official with the Vital Statistics Section of Hawaii's Department of Health told WND, a document without the seal "may not be a certified copy."

Here is the president's long-form birth certificate as released by the White House:

<table align="center" border="0"> <tbody> <tr> <td width="622">
</td> </tr> </tbody> </table>
In contrast, long-form birth certificate copies issued by the Hawaii DOH had clearly identifiable raised seal markings, as seen here:

<table align="center" border="0"> <tbody><tr> <td width="658">
</td> </tr> </tbody></table>
And even if the seal is placed on the backside of a document, the embossing process creates an impression that can be seen on the front. In the following long-form birth certificate copy issued by the Hawaii DOH on March 12, 2011, markings from a raised seal are visible with magnification, as seen here:

<table align="center" border="0"> <tbody><tr> <td width="855">
</td> </tr> </tbody></table>
No similar embossed seal markings are discernable on the White House-released birth certificate, even under magnification.

According to a press release issued by Hawaii Gov. Neil Abercrombie, President Obama requested and was granted two certified copies of his original, long-form birth certificate, which were hand-delivered to Obama's personal attorney, Judith Corley.

The governor's office, however, did not respond to WND requests to clarify whether the certified copies given to Corley were somehow exempted from the embossing, or to explain how the seal may have "vanished" between the time it was given to Corley and the time the purported same document was posted online.

The White House-released Obama birth certificate has the same deficiency that plagued the short-form certification of live birth when it was first displayed to the public by DailyKos.com on June 12, 2008: Neither document, when made available in digitized form, have contained evidence of the raised impression of the Hawaii state seal.

Here is the short-form certification of live birth as it initially appeared:

<table align="center" border="0"><tbody><tr><td width="625">
COLB image released by Obama campaign June 2008</td></tr></tbody></table>
With the short-form birth record, the controversy that developed was not resolved until FactCheck.org produced another version on Aug. 21, 2008, more than two months after the first appearance on the Internet, that clearly showed both embossed seal markings and paper folds.

<table align="center" border="0"><tbody><tr><td width="521">
Close-up of FactCheck.org document</td></tr></tbody></table>
Thus far, the White House has not released for inspection ? to the public or the press ? the actual paper document that Abercrombie's office claims to have supplied Obama's attorney. 2938u4ji23

His comments came yesterday in a telephone call to WND senior reporter Jerome Corsi, Ph.D., who is appearing on wall-to-wall radio programs ? between 10 and 20 per day ? to respond to questions about his latest best-seller, "Where's the Birth Certificate? The Case That Barack Obama is Not Eligible to be President."

Trump asked Corsi about the book, its evidence and what is happening next in the effort to document whether Obama is, in fact, constitutionally qualified for the presidency under Article 2, Section 1's "natural born citizen" requirement.

Trump said his period of almost-complete silence on the issue following the release by the White House on April 27 of the image of a "Certificate of Live Birth" from the state of Hawaii was not because he was satisfied with the document.

"I always said I wanted to know if it was real," Trump told Corsi.

The image has been challenged by a number of experts in the field, and the original, of course, has yet to be seen, much less analyzed.

The state of Hawaii said it inserted "safety paper" into a copy machine and copied onto the new paper the original image from its state records. However, state officials were unwilling to confirm to WND after the image was released that what was issued by the White House was, in fact, an accurate representation of their original records.

During their conversation, Trump told Corsi his own computer expert told him at the release that it was a computer-generated document.
