Downtown Vegas hotels?

Re: Downtown Vegas hotels?

Never stayed there but they (along with Binion's and the El Cortez) cater to the small players.

Mrs. Hoffa states the the Vegas Club's slots are the loosest downtown.

Re: Downtown Vegas hotels?

Didn't see the hookers..Must be a drug invested area from your perspective???

Wouldn't say that necessarily but you might see a few people around checking their beepers around. And they aren't looking at pointspreads. :)

Yes - very easy and at night very safe as long as you are near the Fremont Street Experience

and downtown has the place that might be the biggest bargain in the entire city as far as best buffet for the price

Main Street Station

Re: Downtown Vegas hotels?

The definitive source for Vegas on the cheap:

http://www.cheapovegas.com/index.php

Trying to spread out my stay and get the biggest bang for the buck on first visit. Going in the heat will help me also decide if that is more a mountain or molehill. Picking up and moving is a tall task and for every 10 that seem to like Vegas there are 25 that don't. So I have to S P R E A D and see all I can. Maybe will be out of my system or...

I love downtown. Binions has awesome p-rib. You can get down heavy there if you choose but it does have a lot of cheap shit.

You can always go to the Nugget and sit out side by the pool and hunt Cougar.

BSH brush those choppers you stink

Dante-Good to see you! Thanks. Gonna consider GN.

Binions is a must see too.

At least I've made a final decision about Downtown over the strip.

GN is the nicest. The sportsbook is right by the doors to Fremont St. Located next door is a ABC convenience store. Very reasonably priced. Also, Binions is right across the street from the GN sportsbook, so you can get $2 Corona's and Heinekens all day. If you are really down on your luck and need to eat cheap, there is a McDonalds inside Fitzgeralds, two doors down.

Downtown is a totally different vibe, more suited to the sharper gambler. Better odds can be found there. You can always take the bus to the Strip. Taxi cabs from the airport to GN run around $20.

Re: Downtown Vegas hotels?

I always been in favor of the Strip over downtown. I feel safer and prefer the atmosphere.

The only Casino I like downtown is the Golden Nugget otherwise for me there is nothing else. Everything else is limited downtown (shows and restaurant)

Just depends what you are looking for.

Re: Downtown Vegas hotels?

Downtown will definitely give you the most casino per square foot action than anywhere in Las Vegas. If you're on a budget, it's the place to go.

You can pay $300 a night at the Bellagio, or $49.95 downtown. You are still sleeping in a room with 1000's of other people's DNA. And there is no difference between rich and poor people's DNA!

You can buy a 24-hr bus pass for a few bucks and explore the Strip all you want.

Re: Downtown Vegas hotels?

Do you think I can get a 2 week stay at that price?
Probably will stay there regardless.

I think 2 weeks in Vegas would cost most people a little more than $39 a night - for reasons outside the hotel rate itself :)

more on Fri/Sat, but yes you probably can stay Sun- Thurs for that rate, I get emails offering that regularly, I'll try to post one later. I prefer GN over any other hotel, actually, love the downtown location. I'd probably pick it over the best strip hotels, because I like DT better. I like the BJ playing conditions better, and can always take a city bus to the strip.

Re: Downtown Vegas hotels?

Thanks, Doug! Seems pretty hard for any room to be empty in the place with those deals!

GN sure should be impacting the other DT hotels adversely ! I think the empty rooms are due to the costs of airfare, and so many rooms in Vegas, plus the bad economy.

Some like the strip, some like DT, ID ! Hotels on strip are much further apart. I'd forget RIO/Palms if you are walking. Strip hotels have nicer rooms, but GN is no dive joint.

MGM has great deals, too, BTW ! Walking MGM to Mirage in the heat, can be a bit much

I often split my stay between the two, when going to a Bash.

Golden Nugget is very nice, by far the best downtown.

Vegas Club is pretty bad.

downtown other than the Golden Nugget, you are just getting a place to sleep, so know that going in.

Re: Downtown Vegas hotels?

It's the anonymous Internet.

Lie.

Stay downtown and just tell the EOG posters that Steve Wynn gave you his suite at the Wynn while he was in Macau. We aren't talking a very sophisticated gambling audience here.
