British promoter Eddie Hearn is in Chicago with a planned 11 fight boxing card at the Wintrust Arena this Saturday night, October 12..
The match to keep an eye comes at heavyweight and features undefeated cruiserweight kingpin Oleksandr Usyk making his long awaited debut in boxing's marquee weight class. Providing the opposition is 34 year old 14-0 Tyrone Spong. Spong is a kickboxer first, going 90-7-1 according to his wiki page in that sport, and he went 2-0 in MMA for the now defunct Word Series of Fighting. He has long had a "prodigy" type of label, but it is unlikely his diversified training will leave him near the skill level of Usyk, who is "otherworldly" a la Lomachenko. This is how you get -5000 for this one.
The fact is that Hearn is a dynamic and "in your face" promoter, but the boxing cards he puts on both sides of the pond are filled with lines like this, where one fighter is highly favored. Betting underdogs on Hearn's cards can be a bit of an art, but it can be lucrative. His blatant mistake is obviously the Andy Ruiz Jr match-up wth Anthony Joshua, but just this past weekend on the Golovkin undercard, he debuted Irish "amateur sensation" Joseph Ward and the books labelled him a huge favorite. Unsung Marco Delgado was the 'dog in this one as Ward got hurt and didn't make it out of round two. TKO for Delgado and another big dog win on an Eddie Hearn card. They will be there, just saying!
WBA light heavyweight champion Dmitry Bivol faces Lenin Castillo in his latest title defense. The card also sees Jessica McCaskill and Anna Farias square off for a pair of women's titles at 140 pounds (super lightweight). Look for additional lines from this card later in the week.
Comments? Especially intersted to hear from any Brits who might be out there.
Line below is sampled from 5dimes. I'll post more odds from this card as they pop up throughout theweek.
