Sunday, December 15, 2019—200193 Manchester City -1 +101 (Intertops)

11:30 am EST/8:30 am PST (NBCSN, Telemundo, NBCSports.com, NBC Sports App, Telemundo Deportes En Vivo)—The decade-long enigma that is Arsenal FC (5-7-4, 24 GF-24 GA) continues to befuddle and decline, with new interim Head Coach Freddie Ljungberg filling the void for Owner Sir Chips Keswick, a man with a name so English you’d think it was a made up character in a Monty Python’s Flying Circus sketch. On Sunday at Emirates Stadium (Grassmaster) on Hornsey Road in London, the Gunners (+500) welcome defending EPL champs Manchester City (10-2-4, 44 GF-19 GA, -220) for a Matchweek 17 fixture.

On Thursday, Arsenal advanced to the Round of 32 (Knockout Stage) in the UEFA Europa League after a 2-2 Draw with Standard Liege, leaving them atop their Group F. Late scores from Alexandre Lacazette and Bukayo Saka helped Arsenal rally from a 2-0 deficit at Stade Maurice Dufrasne to earn the point and the Gunners finished 3-2-1, scoring 14 goals and allowing 7 in their 6 matches.

Manchester City also moved onto the Knockout Stage midweek—but in the prestigious UEFA Champions League tournament—beating host Dinamo Zagreb 4-1 in Croatia after trailing 1-0 as Gabriel Jesus had a 20-minute Hat Trick. The Citizens won Group H with an unbeaten 4-2-0 record (16 GF-4 GA).

So Arsenal, Wolverhampton Wolves and Manchester United are all still alive now representing the EPL in the Europa League while the aforementioned City, Tottenham Hotspur, my girls Chelsea and defending holders Liverpool all moved on to the Round of 16 in the Champions League. Last year, the improved EPL had both UEFA CL and EL winners (Liverpool, Chelsea) as well as both runners-up (Tottenham, Arsenal).

Anyone that knows the recent EPL history of the Arsenal (WLDLD) vs. Manchester City (WLWDD) series knows the Sky Blues have dominated of late. Looking at the L7 meetings, we see the Citizens are an unbeaten 5-2-0 vs the Gunners (17 GF-7 GA), W4 straight. Arsenal’s last Win at Home vs City was back in the 2014/15 season (ARS 2-0 MC) and was filmed in Technicolor.

Here the Citizens are large (-220, Westgate Las Vegas SuperBook) Road chalks, forcing employment of the Goal Line and Offshore creativity. Taking MC and laying -1—like CFC and LC Saturday—seems logical, as does the Over with the Citizens showing signs of anger being filtered into scores despite Manager Pep Guardiola’s now omnipresent apathy about his club and its current plight.

It seems being out of the Premiership race before Thanksgiving took all the pep from Pep’s Step and now his boys in sky blue must try to defend their honor by playing well in the UEFA CL and beating up on as many EPL opponents as possible from now until May. The Math may look bad, but they still gotta play the games and we still will be betting them. And Pep will get a total of 0 minutes PT anyway. Let him scowl on with his expensive Euro-scarf.

You better watch out, you better not cry, I’m taking a chalk and telling you why, KDB is coming to town. He’s getting the ball, kicking it twice, Gonna find out whose knees are on Ice, KDB is coming to town. Pierre-Emerick Emiliano François Aubameyang (Government name) should score here for host Arsenal while Bernardo Silva, Raheem Sterling (8 goals), Jesus (of Manchester), Riyad Mahrez and KDB (4 goals, 9 assists) could all tally for the angry visitors in Londontown.

Veteran Sergio Agüero (9 goals) had a Hat Trick the last time these two met in February when we were young, but he’s still healing from a nagging Thigh injury and hasn’t really been involved in most of MC’s goals the L5 weeks. Hey, who needs ‘im? Bring out your dead. Bring out your dead. Bring out your dead.

Arsenal 2 Manchester City 4
