5 am EDT/2 am PDT—Betting teams on the Run Line used to be fun as the prices weren’t whittled down and you could spin a $5 4- or 5-team parlay into $200 to $400 or more if Luck was on your side and you picked the right teams. Luck and “picking the right teams”” has always been paramount for the serious or casual Sports Gambler, whether he or she cares or not. Many just bet on their favorite teams or sports or TV games. Although concentrating on one particular sport or team can be good, it can also be very boring and constraining.
We all never bet against Da Bears back in Chicago in the Eighties. One day I did. It was the fucking Fog Bowl. I called my Bookie Bobby to see if I could get off the game as I could not actually see what was happening. He laughed and said no and that he was on the Eagles too. At least I had a betting partner. Some Chicagoans are really cool and wise people. Bobby told me many Moons ago that I like “betting against the Rats.” Some things never change. Guys who bet on Sports have Brains with extra circuitry evolved from years of weathering games and following Numbers. We think in hyper-speed and watch games in hypervision if we have enough Scrilla on them.
Many are obsessed with the actual Numbers and their movement and who is on what side and why. Zero is the number of Fucks I give about the Numbers and opinions. The Final Score is all that matters and when you have a handicapper providing Final Scores for games picked and wagered on, then it’s obvious this person has thought out and researched the game/match for 3-4 hours and wouldn’t care anyway after writing and betting several days ahead of an event. Days. Not Hours. Not Minutes. I have never cared about The Public or Steam or who Billy Walters was on or any of that BS. I am not betting my $39 for Billy.
Although not really Ratty yet, but showing signs—allowing the most Runs (137) while scoring the 2nd least (93)—the Chunichi Dragons (10-16-1, 93 RD-137 RA) have L3 straight and are now in the last place in the Central Division, led by their opponents tonight-tomorrow in Japan’s NPB, the Yomiuri Giants (16-7-1, 129 RF-79 RA), on a W6 Win Streak and playing some really good Baseball in The Land Of The Rising Sun.
Because the odds are so high on the Giants ($56 to win $20, BoL)—now at -280 (Chunchi +215, BoL, 7½o/u -115)—playing this one on the Run Line seems the only approach with the visiting Giants guaranteed 9 ABs and 27 Outs, Weather permitting. In the R/L market, BoL has Yomiuri -1½ -155 ($56 to win $20, BoL) with the Dragons +1½ -109. A Giants-Hawks-Golden Eagles hearty chalk Parlay may be worth a shot in all Game 1’s.
In W6 straight, Yomiuri won by 2-2-1-5-11-5 and made just 1 Error over that span in games vs Yokohama (3-0) and Hiroshima (3-0). The Giants are 2-1 vs Chunchi (LLLWW) this 2020 KBO Regular Season. The Giants have outscored opponents 39-13 over this spurt. The hungry Finches want Seeds. I will deliver. Animals are always starving these strange-ass quickening days. That’s what happens when you cut down too many Trees and replace too much Grass with Rocks. Rocks are easy to catch but have little nutrition.
The scheduled Starting Pitchers for this game from the Nagoya Dome (Short Pile Artificial Turf) in Chunchi on Tuesday—where there will be limited attendance—are ace (90-47 career) Tomoyuki Sugano (3-0, 2.36 ERA, 0.90 WHIP, .186 Opp BA) and the Walk-prone (5 per 9 IP) Takumi Yamamoto (1-2, 6.62 ERA, 1.76 WHIP. 286 Opp BA) who allowed 5 Runs (3 ER) on 6 Hits and 3 Walks in 3.2 IP vs the Yokohama BayStars. Yomiuri is 8-2 on the Road while the Dragons are just 7-7 at Home. MLB starts on Thursday with the Yankees-Nationals (ESPN, 7 ET/4 PT; Cole-Scherzer) from Nationals Park in Washington, DC.
So Gerardo Parra (.329/3/11), Kazuma Okamoto (.330/9/25) and the Giants will look for another Sweep and that all starts with winning Game 1 and with Sugano getting the Pill and the Giants playing great D, Chunchi should have trouble scoring Runs.
