Free Play Bonuses --- Do you hope you lose them?

The way I figure it, unless my account is at a zero balance, the only way to win a free play bet is if you lose the free play bet.

Because when you look at all your wins and losses at the end of the season, the wins always pay. But if you can show a goose egg on a loss instead of -110, it helps. But if you risk zero and win, at the end of the season, the free bet didn't help you.

Is this just a f'd way of looking at things, or does it make some sense?

Take big doggie on the money line with the free play then take the other side somewhere else. You can get about 65% on that free play.

Let's say I have a $10,000 bankroll and a $1,100 free play.

Assume I play $500 per wager as my standard.

Also, assume my bankroll never drops below $4,000 at any point in the season.

I make the following bets and this is my win loss pattern:

1 W +500
2 L -550
3 L -550
4 L -550
5 W +500
6 W +500
7 L -550
8 W +500
Total: -200

Now, suppose I make the same 8 plays, but this time I use my free play bonus on the second and third plays:

1 W +500
2 L 0
3 L 0
4 L -550
5 W +500
6 W +500
7 L -550
8 W +500
Total: +900

Lastly, suppose I make the same 8 plays, but this time I use my free play bonus on the 5th and 6th plays:

1 W +500
2 L -550
3 L -550
4 L -550
5 W +500
6 W +500
7 L -550
8 W +500
Total: -200

Only if you lose the free play bonus does it help you. Unless of course, the account is zero'd out. Then, and only then, can winning the free play bonus help.

At least that is how my mind works.

I see your point Brother Gambler - but get your scalpel out and convert your free play into cash and then play. You are mentioning that it would be good luck to have one of your losers pop up on your free play. Don't let it be a matter of luck and put some extra cash in your pocket.

BTW, your thinking is not convoluted at all. Better to be good than lucky, eh?
