Great list:

Nicklaus 1 iron at the 17th in the 72 Open at Pebble that hit the flag and
dropped inches away

Mize's 87 chip in @ the 11th vs Norman in the Masters Playoff

Irwin's putt on the 72nd hole @ Medinah in 90 (??) to force a playoff vs
Donald in the US Open

Tigers chip shot on the 16th at Augusta that went backwards and in the
cup a few yrs ago in the final rd playing with Demarco

Jack at 16 in the 86 Masters

Jack at 17 with his putt that was a 'yes SIR" in the 86 Masters

Lyle out of the bunker in 88 for birdie on the 72nd hole of the 88 Masters

Tiger chunking his 1st chip ... then holing out for par at the 14th of Jacks
tourney

Tiger's 6 iron out of the bunker over the Lake on the 72nd hole of the Canadian Open

ADD TO EM AS I AM GOING FROM MY MEMORY ...

Re: Greatest golf shot you've seen in your lifetime

That's a pretty good memory. I would add Bob Tway's holeout to beat Greg Norman in the 1986 PGA. That was a shocker and culminated a season when Norman won the "Saturday Slam" but only took home the British Open.

Most of them involves Tiger Woods, Nicklaus, and Palmer....the one where Aoki, the Japenese golfer holed an iron for a 2 on the 18th fairway to win a tournament by one stroke...only time I have ever seen that...

Re: Greatest golf shot you've seen in your lifetime

Munson: excellent ... forgot about that

Shit ... how about Rocco in the 95 British Open? chunks his 1st and then holes that monster putt from off the green to force a playoff w/ Daly

I was thinking back on others:

* Toms 5 woods at the PGA in the 3rd rd in Atlanta at the 15th for a hole in one

* Magee's hole in one on the par 4 in Phoenix off some dude's putter if I recall

* Tiger's hole in one on the 16th at Phoenix tourney

* Pate's 5 iron on 18 to 5 ft on the 72nd hole of the 77 (???) US Open in
Atlanta

Re: Greatest golf shot you've seen in your lifetime

Nicklaus' 3-iron into 13, final round of the '86 Masters. Led to an eagle that put him in serious contention. He was an afterthought until that tremendous shot, which followed a bogey on 12 that seemed to doom his chances. I got chills when he made that putt, knowing that the win was now a distinct possibility.

I will never forget the final rd of the 72 British

Jack 6 back starting the final rd with 1st 2 legs under his belt

birdies 10 to take the lead and cameras were shaking from the
roar and Mckay goes: "history is alive ..."

Trevino holes off from the green FIVE Times that week to win ...

That was incredible, Trevino was the one golfer of Jack's time who was not mesmerized by his talent. Remember Merion? Watson came along later and beat him a few times, but in Nicklaus' prime, Trevino was the one challenger who never flinched in the face of Jack's greatness. Even Palmer wilted earlier than he should have due to the obvious advantage of Nicklaus' power game.

Munson:

folks forget a great player in that era was Billy Casper ... remember Arnie with a what? 6 or 7 stroke lead to go with 9 left in the 66 Open at the course where Fleck knocked off Hogan in 55 ... OLYMPIC!!!

Casper I think won 3 Majors as I remember he beat Littler in a playoff at the 70 Masters and I am guessing around 53 tour wins

Casper was considered just outside the circle of greatness in that era. Never got his just acclaim due to being overshadowed by Palmer and Nicklaus. I think it was the '67 Open where Casper overcame the huge deficit, Palmer was more concerned with Hogan's scoring record than Casper. Once it got tight, Palmer let it get away and Casper was tenacious. The playoff was anticlimactic, Palmer was a beaten man. I thought about that the one time I was lucky enough to play Olympic in 2002.

Holy mackarel, how did it take that long to get around to that one? Watson calling the shot to caddie Edwards, great stuff.:houra Played Pebble twice, and without Open style rough, you couldn't even try to re-create that shot.

Hogans 1-iron at the 1950 open at merion. to me, nothing else even comes close. the guy nearly died a year earlier and should have never walked again. the shot was in the middle of the green(which is exactly where he aimed it) but when you look at the circumstances and the equipment, it was amazing.

The greatest part of the story is that Merion was considered too short a course to host a major for years, yet he needed that much club into a par 4!
