Hurricane Katrina and the effect on sports

Just something interesting to keep following for those of you betting on football games between this weekend and next weekend.

Hurricane Katrina is going to make landfall somewhere in the Southeast, likely the Florida panhandle on Sunday night/Monday morning. That being said, the effects of this storm will be felt up and down the east coast by the end of the week, just in time for the college football season to beginning.

The game I'm concerned about is the South Carolina/UCF game. There is almost no doubt that, though it might not be raining at game time, the field at South Carolina is going to be slick as all hell unless they have an incredible drainage system. If you were going to back under in this game, now might be the time to hit it before official weather reports come out and say the exact same thing 3 and 4 days from now.

Other games that might turn out incredibly wet because of this on Sept 1...

-Buffalo/Connecticut (I'd say less likely to effect this game, but a possibility)
-EMU/Cincinnati (again, less than likely)
-Vandy/Wake Forest (very likely to be effected, again not necessarily by rain and wind at the moment, but with a drenched field)

In the NFL be very careful with the following week 4 games before betting

-NYJ @ Phi
-NYG @ NE
-Wash @ Bal
-POSSIBLY Cle @ Chi
-Pitt @ Car

Obviously nothing is set in stone yet with these games. But just like any other time a hurricane comes by, even what's left of it can create conditions of torrential rain on an already soaked field and high swirling winds.... nightmares for backup kickers looking for jobs in NFL camps, that's for certain.

Hope this helps. Best of luck to you all.
