Illinois is voting today on sports gambling

18 months is better than having to wait for a vote next year and hope they can serve the public.

Some bad blood toward DK and FD for what some Illinois politicians considered their open flouting of regulations making DFS illegal in the state.

This doesn't surprise me at all.

Rivers Casino was behind it, they didn’t want to compete with online-only.

In the Illinois bill, there is no action on Illinois colleges. I had heard that the AD's of most of these colleges put pressure on the state house reps.

Michigan is such a joke. I've written the potential sponsor of the bill (BrandtIden@house.mi.gov) twice, and have gotten zero reply. The Michigan legislature sucks. Nothing ever gets done, and when it does, it is usually rushed through with very little thought like a bat out of hell......it just happened with the auto insurance reform.
I missed the auto insurance reform.

I could not help but chuckle to see where the new racetrack could be built.

The land for the racetrack was once occupied by the Tinley Park Mental Health Center.

Prepare for more nutjobs to be headed to that location.

When Arlington burned down in 1985, I went to Maywood quite a few times for my wagering fix. They had intertrack betting on thoroughbreds from Hawthorne, and they didn't have the OTBs they would later have.

I served as an Andy Frain usher at Maywood Park in the late 1970's.

Packed crowds every Friday and Saturday night to watch half-mile harness racing action up close.

Job paid $5.00 an hour.

But the Andy Frain ushering company charged $12-$15 an hour for our services.

So the clients who employed the ushers always expected a big effort for their investment.

Meanwhile, Michigan went from being the first in the Midwest to having it drop the ball.

This time, it's not Harbaugh's fault.

Something about prosecutors have seized the cell phones of former corrupt RepubliCON Governor Rick Synder!

When tracks began taking full- card simulcasting in the 90s betting shifted from the on-track product to the simulcast. To compensate for that recapture takes money from the racing purse account.

Chicagoans turned their back on the local racing product and started betting Aqueduct, Belmont, Saratoga, Gulfstream, etc. with both hands in the 1990's.

At one point, I believe Illinois had a more attractive thoroughbred product than Kentucky.

Not anymore.

Pat Day, Jorge Velasquez, Randy Romero, Don Brumfeld, Sandy Hawley, Earlie Fires were all riding at Arlington in the early 80's.

Now the only day I look forward to Illinois racing is Million Day and that isn't that great when you get Chad & Aidan invading with top class stock.

The only day I look forward to Illinois racing is EOG's Day at the Races.

Circle Saturday, August 3rd on the calender.

Viejo Dinosaur will be our featured guest this year and EOG will invest $1,000 in the two most attractive pools of the day.

ChiTownJoe and RICHSOX24 will craft our Pick 4 or Pick 5 or Pick 6 tickets and everyone who attends the event will share in the riches.

True. I would say it peaked in early 90s, the first few years after Arlington was rebuilt. But the idea to change the Sportsman's oval to accomodate an auto track was a disaster. The teardown of Sportsman's was big, as the Hawthorne spring meet has never really caught on.

I remember my uncle would drive up to St Joe and buy the daily racing form every day, then go to balmoral for the harness racing.

Only 2 things I didnt like about SPK...the location and the static shocks you would get on those metal "table " things in the outdoor seating area.
Even had a guy come thru the barn everyday checking to see if any bulbs needed replacing. At Arlington you replaced it yourself unless your name was Bollero..etc

Heard this morning Rivers is converting its nightclub into a sportsbook with hopes to get it open by superbowl.....seems ambitious

draftkings easier to beat than fan duel.

Both companies will be sitting in the penalty box for 18 months in Illinois, per former Illinois Attorney General Lisa Madigan.

They were caught dealing to Illinois residents when not legally permitted to do so.

Screw Lisa Madigan and her corrupt father. So much of what is wrong with Illinois politics comes back to those two.
