Why Taiwan?

I'd pick Thailand. But to avoid being double taxed i'd spend over half the days each year in other countries, e.g. Singapore, Malaysia, PI, etc.

These are among the best choices as far as the English language being spoken is concerned in Asia.

I'm sure one can find "horror stories" everywhere.

But "knowing a guy" that is trustworthy could be a big plus.
