Intentionally walking someone with the base is empty and a tie game is very -EV

Ohtani has had a few good games in the postseason, but he’s had several stinkers.
Putting the winning run on base intentionally is egregiously dumb

I know Bonds was walked a few times with bases loaded...

Ohtani is a great hitter but he doesn't strike fear in a pitchers heart like Bonds.

As long as Betts keeps slumping, and even with his heroics last night, Freeman is only hitting .230 in the postseason, then I would walk Ohtani every time. If those guys start hitting then it's different, but right now they're not, so it makes no sense to pitch to Ohtani, keep walking or pitching around him until the guys behind him hit

Ohtani’s postseason average is .257, and it’s less than that this year.
Walk him with no outs, that gives him the equivalent of a slugging percentage of 1.00

These are hardly Barry Bonds steroid era numbers

If Ohtani took the PEDs that Bonds took, he’d be an 80 HR guy.

Well, maybe over 90 for Ohtani with the pitches Bonds saw.

Bonds' strike zone was miniscule. Typically, he either would K, walk or HR.

Favorite stat (21 years for both, career regular season): chunky Babe Ruth had 136 triples, sleek Barry 77.

It isn't his average, it's his power, if he was a singles hitter you would pitch to him every time, you're not worried about a single up the middle, you're worried about him hitting a bomb, that's why you walk him, it's his power that makes the difference not his average

also dumb of roberts not to walk guerrero tonight, the only guy in lineup that can hurt, you knew ohtani legs would be tired tonight, only john smoltz brought it up, none of the studio dipshits did

Since his 4 IBB game,Ohtani is something like 1 for 9.
He did get an IBB yesterday… that turned out to be the go ahead (and winning) run 🙄.
Even if you have a high slugging percentage, with the exception of Barry Bonds in 2001, intentional walks are negative EV.
