I have to watch these people have champagne toasts after a graded stakes victory. Do we really need to see a champagne toast in the winners circle?

Do it in private, I'm sure the cost is coming out of Frank's pocket too.

Who the F thinks of these things?

I got knocked out of the Pk6 last week in Grade I Kilgore mile, race before Shared Belief romp and have to watch a Toast to Ring Weekend.

If I was there I would have had Big Runner provide cover and picked up a horse pie with my racing form and slung it at Frank giving the toast.

Not a vodka drinker really, but love Guinness.

after getting beat up at the track, happens about 90% of the time, do you really want to see the upper crust flaunting their good fortune. After a day getting your brains beat in, do you need to see the Santa Anita management and horse owners popping the bubbly?

are they going to give the 8k claimer owners a 6 pk of Old Style for their next marketing idea?

no champagne allowed in our group at Arlington....RichSox, BigRunner, EasyGoer, Brayden, Pantherman, (JK doesn't drink) aren't champagne drinkers...Brock might be, but he hasn't been heard from in a long time.

Re: Its bad enough I'm paying 24% takeout on Santa Anita races ...NOW

Four things :

-The takeout is 24% and you knowingly bet into that. What are you complaining about - if the price is too high, pass! Horse racing is a very backwards market - any economist would tell you that to raise demand you should lower prices. Instead horse racing raises them.

-Jimmy Kilroe (not Kilgore) was very influential in the growth of California racing.

-If I had a piece of Ring Weekend (who was offered as a yearling or two year old by West Point) the last thing I'd be thinking about is your losing pick 6 ticket. The horse crossed a million in earnings with this win and it's not like there's a stud career to look forward to. I really like Terry Finley and West Point - he runs a good business and often picks nice horses. I'm happy the connections got to celebrate

-I'm still Tbd for the million. Going to depend on the horses entered as well as my schedule

Just venting, blowing off steam after missing out on a score last weekend.

Finley just brought Durkin in, and although I love Tom's calls not sure I would get involved with the group personally. Knew one owner who had a piece of SunsoutGunsout, and he was pretty ticked off at his experience. The horse was in FLA as a 3 year old prepping for possible Florida Derby run, when 1 wk out from Gotham at Aqu, they say we have to get horse on a plane up to NY to run in Gotham. Romans was the trainer and that is not his style, so it must have been Finley making call trying to get to the Derby. Anyway, horse drew a bad post and ran last or next to last in a field of 13.

Moral to the story, don't join a syndicate if you want any say, just show up in the paddock and write checks to West Point.

That was West Points first Grade I in 5 yrs, since Awesome Gem won the Hollywood Gold Cup so they have every right to celebrate, just think the way Santa Anita is going about it is real cheesy.

Yes I blew the stakes name, my mistake. Thanks for the history lesson.

Real shame the product has to be so bad, when the facility is fantastic. Churchill Downs (owns AP for non-horse guys) could care less about racing except for 2 days a year, Oaks & Derby day.

AP is still running for the same purses that they were 30 yrs ago when I was watching Jorge Velasquez, Don Brumfield, Pat Day, Randy Romero, Sandy Hawley, ...etc. ride everyday at Arlington.

I once attended the races at Arlington Park in the late 1980s or early '90s and received a button at the admissions booth that both spelled out a six-letter word and stated the racetrack's position on what was then the hot-topic issue of the day.

The button read, "CasiNO."

I wonder what would have transpired if track owner Dick Duchossois lobbied to build a casino on the Arlington Park grounds.

It is a dying sport, but if you are alive to a 6 figure score, your heart will jump out of your skin as the horses come down the stretch.

I don't understand why the State of Illinois won't give them a license to put in 100-200 machines, couldn't hurt the casino revenue that much and it would bring higher purses.
