better way to do it would be to subtract losing plays, that would be more true way

He does that in the second to last column in the post above yours.

Going by strictly that metric, you're tied for 7th place with ComptrBob (11 pts lost) behind FairWarning, (0) jimmythegreek, (0) Heim, (0) ChiTownJoe, (9) waco, (9) and Sportsrmylife (9)

The bad news is they're unloading on No. Illinois today....the good news is everybody on UAB herein.

exciting first 7 days of bowl season
except for that awful Fresno St and Georgia Southern that eked out games
has any of these games been competitive with their approx. 25 point win margins.

Gotta believe the layoff is a leading cause of the blowouts.

Either the rhythm of the season or the rhythm of a team's offense is disrupted.

Or simply, one team is well-prepared while the other team is vacationing.

SDSU looked disinterested tonight.

Treating the BC/Boise St. game as either a win or a loss is wrong (game was cancelled) and grossly unfair.

Allowing a replacement at this late date also isn't fair to those who didn't use the game, especially considering 6 future bowls were mandatory picks.

I would say it should be treated as a push, award 0.5 * confidence level points.

This sucks that we are in this position, but I do agree with Goon and CB. The best way would be to award half the confidence points.

Golden nugget and westgate treat it as zero

First point is that they have an explicit rule about cancellations, not so here. Their rule is all about their convenience, not fairness.

Second is they aren't confidence weight based, a high pick here is much more important than the Westgate and GN, so apples and oranges.

Third is they publish lines every week so the games are within 5 days of contest entry (most within 1 day) and the risk of cancellation is much better known. In Jammer's case the games are spread out over 3 weeks, entry was required by Dec. 14.

Give the teams that took BC/BoiseSt a choice.

Choose One

1) 0.5 of your confidence points chosen
2) select a side on one of the games not offered

establish current odds on games remaining that were not offered such as ncstate/am and iowa/missst game

this way players have opportunity to choose to win full value and teams that did not use the game are not affected.
Make the lines tonight of the what 3 or 4 games and everyone's pick is due Thursday at Midnight

Computer Bob, do you know if Westgate/Hilton let the MNF football game in 2003 between Miami and SD remain on Supercontest card when the venue changed from SD to Phoenix because of fires.

I know all bets would have been redunded, just wondering if they left game available on card?

I remember the venue change in 2003, I can't remember if the Hilton counted it. I think they did.

The current Westgate rule is:

25. For contest purposes, all games are action despite a location change. In the event of a game cancellation or postponement, the game must be played by Tuesday of the contest week to be applied toward contest standings or contestant will be awarded zero points for that game.

looks like peeps who have taken the bc/boise st game will be playing with a handicap, not being able to achieve total points
after a sixty minute game, despite an obvious, fair and easy solution offered.

Jammer and Goon both agree on half the number of confidence points for the Boston College-Boise State game.

We move on.

might matter, might even not
just not interested in receiving yet another
short-end result, you dig.

for entertainment purposes, I was just looking forward to peeps
shooting down my clear and easy solution with no disadvantage, as ludacris.
but instead got my answer, as the silence is deafening...

Relax brother- this isn't life changing money, it's a fun contest on a sports message board. Regardless of what decision is made, you are not going to please everyone. Don't lose sleep over it.

You apparently dont know the people who live for these free rolls. Watching games while tackling pillows and diving for fumbles on TV is their baseline.

This money is a few months rent to many here. Lol.

Allowing a replacement at this late date also isn't fair to those who didn't use the game, especially considering 6 future bowls were mandatory picks.

Again, I still maintain that allowing a choice to do a straight replacement is unfair. Essentially its a "free-roll" for those who are way behind because of other picks, so they can't settle for half points. Consider if something like a #19 level pick was made on BC/Boise, it should not be able to be replaced with a game which was left off and thus rated below at least 14 other games.

With some further thinking, I did come up with a replacement strategy that I believe is much fairer, i.e. promote all games below the level of the cancelled game with their old level + 1. Then add a new game that remains to be played and hadn't been chosen as the level 1 game. E.g. a 10 level cancelled game would reassign the 9 to a 10, 8 to a 9, 7 to a 8, etc. This possibly would add some points to the existing score for games already played, but seems much fairer in that it keeps the priority order intact.

I'll also say from a grading standpoint, treating a cancelled game as a push is already implemented because potential pushes have to be handled anyway. It would cause a bit more work for me to implement all win, all loss, or replacement for a cancelled game.
