John Kelly/Leroy's line

Anyone know if JK landed anywhere or if there is going to be any kind of friday night/sunday night radio show this year out of Vegas? Leroy's folded the "Leroy's Line" show (which took over for the defunct stardust line) last February and i haven't seen anything on him or a new show since.

Thx.

Obviously, you have not heard JK's show. JK presents solid sports and sports-betting guests-content in an interesting and informative format. With all due respect, many of the posts at EOG are a waste of time. There is seldom a wasted minute when JK is on the air. I catch all of his shows.

Actually, I heard through the grapevine that JK has something lined up. However, I don't have any details. Bob Smith (of Leroy's) recently said on the air that American Wagering is working to bring back the Money Talks contest for Autumn 2009. Again, no details.

If you like, drop me a private message at the end of August and I will tell you if I have any further information.

Re: John Kelly/Leroy's line

I remember that show when it was broadcast out of the Stardust Casino, at the Sportsbook. I even did a spot on that show with Mark Lawrence, in preparation for the Stardust's 10 large Handicapping Contest. That was the year before theStardust closed it doors for good. Lawrence ended up winning the contest that year. What they do not tell you is the winning percentage. It was a head on elimination, so if you went 3-4 and the other guy went 2-5, you won that round.

You are referring to a prior show featuring the same host that FlyersFan and I are talking about. But to your point, you are exactly right. A "handicapper" could certainly move through several levels with an overall ATS losing record (all you had to do was go 1 and 6 when you opponent achieved 0 and 7). Additionally, the overall record (if you included the ATS records of the handicappers who moved on and the handicappers who were eliminated) was below par during several of those Stardust contests.

Wiseguy-
Thanks for the heads up.

Cloverleaf- you sir are the reason i really don't post at sites like this. All you end up doing is getting ripped apart. I am not advertising anything. It's the same shit all the time at places like this. A Non-regular makes a post and every guy wants to be a cool wise ass.

I asked a question of people here because i have lurked in the past and knew guys followed dave cokin and that whole deal. Personally, i found the show entertaining and there was always good information to do with as you wished. I willl have to say i have made some money off of that show and i am not picky when it comes to finding a good tail or fade.

Anyhow, sorry to rock the boat here. Hadn't posted anywhere in a while and forgot that somebody would probably jump down my throat.

Wiseguy- if you get anymore information let me know. I actually went and saw the show live last fall. There were about 20 of us in the audience...lol.

THX

I will probably forget. Please send me a private message at the end of August. When I sign in at EOG, I usually glance up to see if there are any unread private messages.

Your question is entirely reasonable. Actually, about ten guys have asked me the same question around town here -- because everyone knows that I know JK. But I haven't seen him or spoken with him for six months.

I've seen other people ask about JK too. I listened online to him a couple of years ago and thought he was quite good.

I received an e-mail from KLAV. They say the Leroy's thing is still in the discussion phase. Looks good but nothing etched in stone yet. Looks like a once-a-week Friday afternoon-evening program.

That is exactly what I was just wondering before I saw your post.
Because the word is that the show will be aired live at 3 p.m. Pacific Friday and I am usually doing other stuff at that time.

I do know this: In previous years, when American Wagering was in charge of archiving these programs in previous seasons, it was hit or miss. There were some days that were archived and some days that were not archived. JK told me that it was quite upsetting because listeners could not depend on the archives to be available.

Here is how you could find the archives in previous football seasons.
This might be the way archives are accessed in autumn 2009.

Go to this page:

http://www.americanwagering.com/leroys.html

Look along the left for "Radio Shows" or something similar.
click on that
then look for "Money Talks Radio Show" or something similar.
click on that
then look for "archives" or something similar.

I certainly hope they archive these shows or I may not be able to listen to them.

Wiseguy-

Thanks for the updates. JK was money in the WNBA...too bad he doesn't have his JK play of the day anymore with that stuff.

As for the show archive, it is spotty at best as it was detailed.

Wasn't the shrink guy that has this site in the contest a couple of times?

The picks have really been horrible the past couple of years honestly. It really is funny that most of these guys are competing for 10K and they are supposedly all coming with their 7 best plays. And most all are considered "services". And yet they struggle to hit .500 most of the time. Goes to show how much BS is out there when you hear about these 78% hitting seasons from these guys etc.....but there are always a couple of good cappers that are worth listening too and stealing a couple of plays from.

Yes, indeed. If you search around EOG.Com with keywords such as Leroys, John Kelly, contest, and such, you will find more info about his appearances.

The other day, I was looking at some old paperwork from The Sports Monitor in Oklahoma City featuring Ruth Glasgow. It reminded me how few of these so called professional sports services actually even break even. And then, when you consider their fees, their customers can't make money.

I don't listen to the Leroys show for the picks. The show is just entertainment. Most of these so called professional sports handicappers make their money from selling their "services" and not from their gambling. They like to pretend otherwise. I can tell you that, over the years, I have noticed that many of the public handicappers either don't wager or they bet tiny $$$. It is really amazing to have these big-talking-guys tell me how smart they are and how often they are winning -- and then bet $25 on a square play where the line has already moved against them.

cloverleaf,

you do make a good point...I used to listen to the show for two main reasons:

1. they discussed the games on Sunday, the day the lines come out...

2. Dave Cokin gave excellent, free, analysis...
