The Kansas Jay Hawks just destroyed the HOTTEST team in the country, the North Carolina Tar Heels...

In fact, winners of 15 consecutive games, North Carolina advanced to the FINAL FOUR with the largest cumulative margin of victories in the history of the March Madness tournament to get there...

And although North Carolina mounted a furious comeback, they were really never in the game against Kansas for the most part and they never led at all...

Simply put, the Kansas Jayhawks were better in every facet of the game last night...

So why are they a one point underdog against Memphis State?

The same reason I loved Kansas against UNC is the same reason this point spread appears to be "off" and has the wrong team favored...

Does anyone besides me think that might piss of Kansas just a tad?

Had the line been made 10 days ago, KANSAS would have been at least a 2-3 point favorite over Memphis State...

But since I believe this is a "what have you done for me lately" mentality, the BOOKIES & THE PUBLIC remember the last 3 games that Memphis played, all-blowouts, and therefore, they will go off as the favorites as well...

My money is on KANSAS.

They have the BIG men who dominated against a UNC team that no one seemed to think was possible...

How in the world can a team that manhandled the Tarheels be UNDERDOGS? :rolleyes:

Does anyone think the way Kansas finished that game last night affected the line at all?

They were on the brink of blowing a monumental lead...yes they did regroup and win going away but, that huge comeback was a little disturbing....

Did that affect the line at all?
I think it did...I don't think it should have though.

I think it has to be due to the performances of BOTH of Memphis State's guards....

Yes, they had career nights but if you think for one second that Kansas will match up and play man to man against them like UCLA did, you are crazy...

Kansas may not stop them, but if they contain them, I believe Kansas wins, period...

shrink you really think this line is way off? It is about a about a pick em game (-115 on the money line for Memphis on the exchanges). A MEmphis team that has played everybody and lost only once and the last 3 games have totally destroyed some of the top teams in the country..and it turns out they can shoot freethrows...

I mean I love Rock Chop but I dont see how they could ever be a favorite over this Memphis squad.. 1 day ago, 3 days ago, or at any point this entire season. Im shocked Im not getting Kansas +2 1/2 points this pick em sucks...

Not one to usually disagree with you, but i respectfully disagree. I think Memphis is the better team of the 4. Memphis backcourt of rose -cdr is superior to any Backcourt in the nation. Being from nw ala i have had the luxury of seeing memphis play on numerous times each yr. and i get the feeling that the nation as a whole does not realize how good memphis basketball is their depth is unreal. They play 94 feet the whole 40 minutes. What gets lost in the equation by the public and media is memphis defense is the best in the nation. They are long and quicker than all, they defend from the tip to the buzzer and because they get all the accolades for their up tempo offense their defense does not get the recogintion for their tenacious defense. I like Kansas and their makeup but i see memphis as the better team and at least a 3point favorite.

For as good as Kansas played against UNC, Memphis has been playing just as well.....they have been dominating in the tourney, and have seemed to find a way to lessen their only "achilles heel" the free throw shooting, as they have been respectable in the tourney...

that being said, i agree with ken, i think Kansas is the better team, and will win.....but i dont disagree with the line....Memphis has been every bit as impressive, and has a stellar record this year..

seems like memphis is the team you don't give enough respect to shrink... i was a non believer as well before the tourney, but go back and look at their last 3 performances... they deserve to be the favorite, although i'm pulling for kansas to win the game

Of course Memphis played great their last 3 games and they shot over 80% from the Free Throw line, too...

I just don't believe they will shoot nearly as well against Kansas guarded or from the charity stripe....

Some of these posts sounds like the same group who loved UNC yesterday, too...

How many of you had them?

KANSAS destoyed who many considered was the best team last night period!

Why are they underdogs?

Kansas has the defense that UCLA supposedly had. Kansas plays som tough ass defense and has a lot more athleticism than that overrated UCLA team.

I respect Kansas a lot, but Memphis used to be State seems just a little better. Davidson showed Kansas is beatable, no one has showed Memphis is. If forced, I would go with Tigers, but I think the over is slightly better. I am going against the blowout trend, but this looks like a very close game, very even match up. And forget Kansas height, UCLA had it, and what good did it do? They ran right by them. I think both teams get out and run.

Memphis only 35 percent on the year. I think this is were it is at for Kansas on D. IMO pack it in and make them beat you with threes that are not coming from passes via penetration off the dribble. Memphis makes them they win, they don't and kansas wins.

Tend to think that Rose and Douglass-Roberts attack the rim the same way they did against UCLA. If Kevin Love did not stop that, you think Kansas will?

The knock on Memphis all year was that they cant shoot foul shots. They are proving that wrong in the Tourney. Memphis is not a great perimeter shooting team. They need to attack the rim and get those bigs in foul trouble. they attack and knock down the foul shots like they did the last 3 games, they win this game going away.

Considering this tourney has been "chalk laden" (lest KU over UNC) you might want to be siding with Joe Public.

OF put it best: "You could find more live dogs at Mike Vick's house"

Pretty simple..........UNC played no defense all year........the reason it didnt show until last night is because they have not played anyone who could actually score until last night...........

Dont be fooled........Kansas will not have many easy looks like they did saturday night..........Memphis will win going away..........KU guards are to small and if Rush is put on Rose or CDR they will fly right by him.........he is a step slow since his injury........thats why he settles for so many outside shots although he is a great shooter.............

Memphis will find it easier to score vs KU than they did vs UCLA...............

I agree totally. I think it alot of the hype around UNC is mislead. I mean really how good was the acc this yr? not as good as in the past. I mean duke conference number # 2 ? ADD the media frenzy around hansbourgh and that equals the over hype of unc. No where near as deep as title team. Title team had 4 solid nba 1st round picks.

Let me start off by saying i am not a memphis fan, unfortunately i am alabama fan stuck with a suck ass hc. How can u say memphis is thugs? What do u base your statement on?

Well, I think he might have been referring to their Graduation Rate of their players which used to be about 0%, and the troubled history of their Coach for starters...

That's only my guess...

Bad guess The Shrink. Nice try but let me inform you, 4 year players under him at Memphis formerly state, have risen from close to 0% to 89.5%, quite the turnaround. Here are a couple of paragraphs and full story available.

Also, I read this about Memphis as well...

"It will mark the first trip to the Final Four for Memphis since 1985 and the first for Calipari since he took Massachusetts there in 1996. Both appearances were later vacated by the NCAA because of violations involving former Tigers star Keith Lee and former Minutemen star Marcus Camby."

Pretty slippery The Shrink. Keep guessing. Those former grad rates have nothing to do with Cal and you know it. Looks like he has turned this program around to me, and is also turning around the lives of troubled young men, but best of all, he is winning, and has done his job in remarkable fashion. Your innuendo was there, I don't buy it, I say he is doing things well, and the right way. Not many coaches out there can even come close to what he has achieved here. I will give the man his due rather than hold his past against him.
