I liked Hendricks too but Ive wagered cubs on the road and been burned so many times. They always find ways to lose. Now that Ive finally decided to not touch the hot stove, probably means the cubs roll today

Nico Hoerner is coming up to Cubs to play SS. Baez, Russell and Dixon Machado are all out, and Nico finished his season playing better than Zack Short. Cubs hope Nico isn’t seen as the season savior. With season on line and 3 weeks to go, they simply see him as their best option.
How could it not be seen as them being desperately here? They were always big on player control.

The Cubs’ shortstop position has been so devastated by injuries in recent days that top prospect Nico Hoerner — last year’s first-round draft pick — will make the jump from Class AA and join the team in San Diego for Monday night’s game.

The move comes one day after Addison Russell was hit in the head by a pitch and put under evaluation for a concussion. That came one day after the National League’s All-Star starter, Javy Baez, was diagnosed with a fractured thumb that might sideline him the rest of the season.

Even the Cubs’ Class AAA shortstop, Dixon Machado — who has big-league experience — finished the minor-league season on the injured list because of a quad injury.

The Cubs cling to a 1½-game wild-card lead over the Diamondbacks entering the final 20 games of the season, fighting to qualify for the postseason for a fifth consecutive year.

Second baseman David Bote was the top remaining big-league backup among a handful of bad choices as the Cubs left Milwaukee Sunday night on the heels of three consecutive losses.

Hoerner, 22, was the 24th overall pick in last year’s draft out of Stanford.

He hit .292 in 75 minor-league games this year, including .284 with a .344 on-base percentage and three homers in 70 games for AA Tennessee.

Hoerner missed most of the first two months of the season because of a wrist injury.

Before that, he was brief sensation in spring training, going 8-for-17 with six extra-base hits and a walk in 14 appearances as an extra player from the minor-league side of camp.

He ranks 48th on MLB Pipeline’s most recent top 100.

Russell remained “under evaluation for a possible concussion” as he traveled with the team to San Diego on Sunday night, his status for that four-game series pending daily exams.

“It’s, as they say, suboptimal,” manager Joe Maddon said Sunday.

cubs promoted nico hoerner an infield prospect to take russells place.. russell took baez place .. so on so on to to get to don kissinger then ernie banks

Hoerner, 22, was the No. 24 overall selection in the 2018 draft and is widely considered to be among the game’s 100 best prospects. he ranks #40

Check out the career numbers of Kyle Hendricks against division rival St. Louis.

Just outstanding.

The Cubs flipped Lester and Hendricks in the rotation this past weekend so Kyle could face St. Louis twice in late September.

jeez don't say that

that's on the top ten mush statement list

talent overcomes mush. The kid cubs SS hoerner is a contact hitter just up and got 3 hits. Only whiffed about 30 x in 250 AB in minors.. Cubs needed more hitting and less whiffing. 10-2 final. winner

Hendricks and Darvish are their 1 and 2 starters. I'd put Lester as the 5.

It's only one game but Nico did not look overmatched at all by major league pitching. Kind of ironic his MLB debut comes against his college teammate Quantrill.

Paddack has gotta be tough for anybody facing him for first time. His change is filthy.

Hamels did alright I thought Padres would hit him more.
