It will be interesting to hear the stories about Larry Bird developing into a basketball great.

Hodges also will comment on the challenge of defending Magic Johnson.

Hodges replaced Bob King at Indiana State after he had a heart attack(?). King coached at New Mexico and was responsible for "The Pit" being built.

The ISU-DePaul semi-final game in '79 was a all-time classic. ISU had a guard Carl Nicks that make the NBA for a bit off that team.

Bob Knight was his first college coach, correct?

Pretty sure he went there first......

If so ask the guy why he thinks Bird didn't stick it out at Indy? Knight too tough? Wasn't sure about playing time?

Whatever the reason was....

And yeah great guest Kelly, did/does this guy make the occasional Pete Rose wager?

Bill Hodges was the man who recruited Larry Bird to Indiana State after Bird left Indiana.

Hodges said they did not discuss Larry's days in Bloomington.

He also said he was not savvy to the pointspread while a Division I basketball coach.

Great show JK...I remember Bird and his days at Indiana State, with the NBC game of the week with Enberg, AL, and Billy Paacker....Billy had excuse everytime Duke lost,player sick, etc...excuse after excuse

Bird leaving IU had nothing to do with Bobby Knight or playing time, he was only there for a few weeks, he left because he was from a small town and felt overwhelmed by the size of the campus, he didn't think he could handle the environment.
