Looking @ the Miami Masters [TENNIS]

Today I focused my attention on the Mens Singles Main Draw for the upcoming Masters- (March 23 to April 3, 2011)

Here are some of my thoughts and who I believe will be in the Final.

You can look @ the draws here:
Tennis - Sony Ericsson Open - Draws

What I first noticed, as I went down both brackets, was Nadal and Federer both in the top half. Normally, this would be quite interesting, but I'm not expecting them to meet each other.

Rafa Nadal

It's difficult to say what Nadal's frame of mind will be coming into Miami.
He suffered one of the toughest losses of his career in the Indian Wells Final to Novak Djokovic. But as many know, Nadal has plenty of mental fortitude, and the heart of a lion. His first real test would be in the 4th round, where he'd face either Alexandr Dolgopolov or Jo-Willy Tsonga. I think the Ukrainian (Dolgopolov) can make some waves in this spot. An unorthodox player with speed. He has the same all-court awareness that Nadal displays, and is a good counter-puncher. He can be a tricky enough opponent to give Nadal trouble and take him out of contention. Of course, this all depends on Nadal's motivation.

Roger Federer

Alas! Ah, Roger. What can I say? I'm fed up with Fed. The man most tennis fans can't seem to let go of, and accept that he just isn't the same player. Fedex hasn't really done much in Miami since '06, and I'm not expecting much this year. It wouldn't even surprise me to see a savvy and tricky veteran like Radek Stepanek push Roger to a third set, in his first match. Expect Federer to lose in the 4th round to either, Marco Baghdatis, or the mad Russian- Mikhail Youzhny.

Novak Djokovic

Cheers to the Serb! 'The Joker' remains undefeated this year- winning 18 matches in a row- including the first Grand Slam title of the year. He's the best tennis player going at the moment, and it's hard to go against him here. I look at his side of the draw and can't find anyone who can touch him. Maybe Djokovic's countrymen, Viktor Troicki, can give him trouble in the 4th round? I don't think so, he never has. Bellucci, Blake, Troicki, Querrey, Verdasco? It'll be smooth sailing to the Finals, as long as he comes into Miami with the same determination.

Andy Murray

Who? Yeah, it's really easy to forget about this kid, because no one knows where he's at or what's wrong with him. He's coming off a loss to Donald Young @ Indian Wells. Pathetic. He also lost to Baghdatis @ Rotterdam. Two losses in a row since his collapse in the Aussie Open Final. Andy Murray's biggest enemy is himself. He did win the Miami Masters in 2009, but that was a different time. I also noticed a pattern as I looked at his past matches. If he performed well @ Indian Wells, that year, he'd continue the success in Miami. If he performed poorly, that year, he'd do the same in Miami. I expect him to easily get past Hanescu in his first match, unless he's really gone off the deep end, but he'll lose to John Isner in the match after. Last year, Murray lost to Mardy Fish in his first match. He has nothing to defend this year.

Andy Roddick

Andy loves playing here. He won last year, and he'll want to defend his title. Marin Cilic could give him trouble, as he has in the past, if they met in the 4th round, but Cilic is so inconsistent. Melzer could be his other opponent, but both Cilic and Melzer haven't had much success in any of the American Masters. As long as Andy's serving well, his part of the draw is easy enough for him to advance to the late rounds.

Finals Prediction: Andy Roddick vs. Novak Djokovic

Agree on Djoko super easy half of the draw. Not sure how he handles the hummidity though.

He'll be fine. He's probably laughing at his draw. I notice they now changed (the 27) to Bellucci? They had Berdych in that part of the bracket, which I thought was off... it must've been a mistake. I had to adjust my post.

It only gets easier for Djokovic. He won't have to face anyone serious until the Quarters.

Round of 96 starts tomorrow. Davydenko has really slipped off the charts. I wouldn't be surprised to see Kevin Anderson beat him.

Del Potro will easily get past Mello.

Devvarman has been on a tear. Going against Starace should be a breeze.

The young gun slinger Berankis over Feliciano Lopez.

I can't wait for the real matches this Thursday.

I thought Fixerenko was playing extremely well against Wawrinka who is far better player than Anderson. But I dont touch Fixerenko at such a short price. Learned my lesson.

Like I told you Kinger you should start studying broads closely. Plenty of $$ to make on dog plays.

I like Jack Sock in this spot. This kid (who's still in high school) is going to be a good player. Last year's U.S. Open Jr. Champ.

Berlocq is a clay court specialist, and not much of a good one. He mostly plays in challengers.

Tim Henman weighs in on Andy Murray's decision to continue playing without a full-time coach.

Former British No. 1 Tim Henman has issued a warning that the ad-hoc coaching situation of his tennis heir Andy Murray must be formalised if the fading world No. 5 Scot is to have any chance to fight for a place in the elite alongside Rafael Nadal, Novak Djokovic and Roger Federer.

Henman, once a world No. 4, was especially critical of the decision by Murray's part-time Spanish mentor Alex Corretja to skip the Australian Open, where Murray lost a second straight final as he went down in a heap to Djokovic.

"I'm sure Alex is helping but in hindsight he should have been in Australia with Andy," Henman told British media. "I feel Andy needs some support but should he get a full-time coach. With Andy's personality there's no point employing a coach just for the hell of it if he's not going to listen."

Henman was always accompanied by a coach throughout his career; Murray split with Miles MacLagan last summer and has winged it ever since. He originally set a deadline of getting a coach by the end of the year but then let it slide and has has no further public thoughts on the subject.

Meanwhile, his post-Australia slump deepened at the Indian Wells Masters when he lost his opening match to lowly-rated American Donald Young, who was promptly hammered in the next round by Tommy Robredo.

Murray has a last chance on hardcourt to make an impression before the clay season - his least successful time of the year - begins in early April. Murray starts in Miami against either a qualifier or Romanian Victor Hanescu.

---- Totally agree with Henman. Murray is lost right now. Losing to Donald Young is a new low. I think he's given up on this part of the season. At the moment, he's damaged goods, and good fade material for this tourney...

I hate Murray so I'm happy to see him where he's at right now.

U were right about Fixerenko Kinger. Looks like he'll be done in about an hour.

He's a complete joke. It looks like Anderson has this in the bag. What motivation does Mr. Fix It have to get back into the match?

Kevin Anderson whooped the Ruski, 6-4, 6-3. Fixerenko should be embarrassed.

I'm surprised Andujar took out Tomic. What happened to the Tomic we saw in the Aussie Open?

The thing is seems like market overreacts to situations like that. Guy had one decent tournament and than he's way overprized. Happens on WTA even more. Bojanovski had a good game against Zvonareva at AU she should have won but managed to lose and now she's always a fav against opponents of the same level. And I mean alot of chalk. Kvitova had a great start of the season and than bookies treat her like she's top 3 player or something.

I was surprised to see Berlocq beat Jack Sock. Berlocq is an insta-fade the next round. I wonder what the odds will be on Gulbis...

LOL Andy Murray lost to Bogo in straight sets. He was breadsticked in the first set, 6-1. Horrible.

Murray is a joke. Can't stand him and also his mother when they show her during his matches. Guy sucks on clay, can't stand a pressure so should not be a factor in Wimbledon either we might wait till late summer and all those hard court tournaments prior US open to see Murray winning again.

Djokovic destroyed Istomin, 6-0, 6-1.

I'm surprised Andujar beat Verdasco, and Granollers beat Wawwy.

Andy Roddick having a rough outing today. Cuevas is out-serving him... he keeps making wide serves which give Roddick trouble.

I see that Berlocq beat Gulbis. Gulbis has really been atrocious these last few months. What happened to this kid?

The dirt players have been quite comfortable in the slower and humid conditions.

Cuevas just beat Andy Roddick in straight sets. Unreal. His first victory against a top 10. Also, Roddick might slip out of the top 10 now because of this...

Florian Mayer was a winner. Almagro was horrible in the first and last set. Mayer breadsticked him.

Petzschner was a straight sets loser.

Yup. It started to drizzle and they suspended the match. I checked 5 minutes ago and it was pouring, so I don't know if they'll continue tonight.

I can't believe Dolgo lost that first set. He broke and went up 5-4, but was broken back in the next game. It goes to a tiebreak and he loses it.

and now Dolgo gets broken early in the 2nd. What do you expect considering you know who is on him. I was smart enough to fade the bird's first tennis play.
