ive never seen so many ants in the pants types. We can all be glad that none of us were around in World War 2 when years of limits, sacrifices, shortages, were what was needed. years, here the greatest generation is disapproving of you all. wow 4- 6 weeks and its all you can handle. I saw people almost in tears that a golf course was opening up this weekend. smh

The entire younger generation has been taught that any risk of any kind is bad and must be avoided at all costs. Look at that aircraft carrier - I heard supposedly smart people saying the first duty of the commander is to his crew...NO, it's to the mission, if it was the former they'd never leave port.

I expect after this is done and a distant memory - lets say 3 years from now, there will be people that will want to wear masks and maybe even shut stuff down for the flu.

After that depressing presser from sisolak, I don’t see Vegas opening until mid June.

The plan in Nevada should have been when we hit this number of cases we’ll be in phase 1. This number phase 2. We will reopen when the number reaches this number. Instead Sisolak and his math buddies had no answers.

Completely agree.

Very lengthy jabber with little real data, analysis or hard criteria. I did not see any "risk-assessment" of the so-called "second peak/wave" phenomenon. The first goal post was the "flattening the curve" mitigation which, by and large, has worked. Now the goal posts are being moved to a nebulous "Phase 1".

I took the Nevada COVID-19 data and computed a 7 day moving average for cases and deaths. If you then look at the last 7 days, the "cases'" moving average was down or equal 6 of 7 days, and "deaths'" 7 day moving average was down all 7 days. This is a reasonable trend indicator that is much better than just looking at data one day at a time.

We all know that the "opening" is going to be staggered, both in other localities and Nevada. It appears that in Nevada any easing could be stretched out for many months.

Sisolak's most brilliant move was promoting a GoFundMe page after Stephen Paddock went crazy at Mandalay Bay on October 1, 2017.

Sisolak pretty much made it impossible to reopen. He said cases have to go down, but if you are increasing the testing daily its really hard to see 14 straight days of declining cases. Pretty obvious what he's up to, the union is out clamoring for paying casino staff even when closed so he's on their side. Keep things closed and then try to shame the casinos into paying everyone until they are nearly out of money. And only then will it be "safe" to reopen.

Are Nevada and California, Sisolak and Newsom, on the same page when it comes to reopening the economy?

Seems like the two states should operate as one for the good of everyone involved.

Note my 7 day moving average formula above uses data from as much as 13 days ago.

However, I noticed a disturbing tendency for the Nevada gov website to change data from previous days, sometimes going back as much as 4 days. They also note data from Saturday to Monday may be underreported. Its virtually impossible to get 14 straight days of decline. It will be easy to cook the books to keep the state locked down.

Yep, all states really. Weekends are slower so Monday inevitably ends up being a spike up day that I'm sure he'll use as an excuse. I'm telling you NV guys he's so in bed with the casino unions and you can see how they are reacting today. They don't want to open, but they want to be paid and the Governor has their back.

Not the first time they've "cooked the books" in Nevada.

Brilliant and Nevada politicians should never go in the same sentence unless used sarcastically.

We will wait on our big brother to the left of us to tell us when to open. Mid June is where I’ve been on this all along.

Most governors are talking about Phase 1.

Nevada's Steve Sisolak is talking about Phase 0.

You can't make it up.
What exactly is his plan, considering the casino industry is everything to NV? Those casino workers(votes) wont be around if the casino's stay shut or are forced to close.

Haha.

Liability is a big issue.

What if I catch the virus in an infected TI room?

Are companies going to be shielded from coronavirus lawsuits?

Follow the money on these suits. There is a class action suit in Illinois now from small businesses being told from insurance companies they are SOL on business interruption insurance.

Far right wing Gov of Neb. Pete Ricketts is blocking the release of Covid 19 data to the public. Pete's got something to hide besides his dad and two brothers being racist mother fuckers. I think its two brothers.
Yup, he's hiding all 12 cases.

Long lines at many Indiana restaurants now as people are coming over from Illinois and Michigan. This 25-50% open is BS. Either you’re open or you’re not. If the state doesn’t feel that it’s safe enough, then close.

The authorities here are "worried" that minnesotans might go to wisc. bars since they're open, they say they'll have to incorporate this into their models...uh huh, those models are razor sharp.

Same problem in downstate Illinois where Missouri residents around St. Louis enjoy far more freedom than Illinois residents.

My unscientific observations around Illinois are many fewer wearing masks.
As for my freedoms I'm doing just fine

The smart move for Sisolak would be to approach the locals market and the strip separately. If Stations and Boyd addressed some of the guidelines outlined by the CDC, let them open for Memorial Day Weekend. Obviously strip properties more out of state driven, so really no rush in getting them open outside of putting people back to work.

A few anecdotal interactions - Neighbor - nurse at UMC - stated they had 8 total cases last weekend. She is optimistic. Flattening the curve was never an issue. Other neighbor is head engineer at Summerlin Casino where he has been living in house for last 50 days. Stated they are starting to bring staff back with anticipation of opening on Friday.

Good info, Cow.

Station Casinos is terminating the employment of all buffet workers.

Don't expect Las Vegas buffets to be availabe anytime soon.

As JK knows, in the past, I have gotten lots of free buffets.

Several Reno/Tahoe buffets would seem to be very different in their ability to adapt. Of course there are many others, all will have some modifications. I would expect these costs to be passed on to the customer which might well limit demand.

Grand Sierra Resort & Casino: Even before the closure, they were individually wrapping cookies, brownies, etc. They have 12 separate stations (most self-serve, but with at least one or two staff behind the counter) plus the salad bar and dessert counter for dispensing food. They would need to make these "individual-requested food" isolated stations. Their seating is very flexible to accommodate large groups by joining tables so they could limit capacity and distancing very easily. Only a few fixed booths at one end. Have a small bar at which several seats would be removed. Had a major remodel about 5 years ago. Pre-COVID cost of the Sat night buffet was around $23.

Sparks Nugget (JA): Much more difficult to modify, only two serving stations (meat, soup, etc. and dessert counter), the rest is self-serve. A bunch of fixed booths which could put two patrons in different booths within about 2 feet of each other, essentially like it was 50 years ago. It would require a major remodel. Closed for 3 weekdays during the entire 2007-8 recession .Will be closed for quite a while.

Montbleu (Stateline, owned by Eldorado Resorts): In between, 6 serving stations, some booths, but generally flexible. Only was open Fri-Sun anyway, I don't expect it to open anytime soon .
