Message from BetPhoenix

Wanted to get this out before week one of the football season and BetPhoenix was kind enough to take the time and issue the following statement...

Last July we were approached by Ken Weitzner with regards to a partnership with Eye On Gambling. We brokered a deal for 51% ownership at the time, and left the day to day operations to Ken. Our wish was to remain a silent investor with a silent partner on our end as well.

After Ken's tragic passing we spoke to Weitzner's estate and then considered info on the 49% shareholder's options...Awaiting direction of the shareholders, we leaned towards selling our end to them, but eventually ended up constructing a deal to acquire the other 49%...

In the time when we were looking to sell, we did not put that much activity into the site..Now that we moving in the opposite direction, you will start to see the activities needed to position this site as a great source for gaming info and sports content...

When we met with Ken, we envisioned together a site that promotes great content and a tight community..A place for people to discuss gaming at all levels including the industry both offline and online, and an impartial way for users to find competent ideas to use for their gaming needs...The true objective was a move towards more transparency rather than censorship, and more responsibility from both sides of the counter...

We have thrown those visions over to good hands in John Kelly and VD..This is a new direction and we know that in time it will be a great investment..In one year's time, the landscape of EOG will be vastly changed..Some of the community may go and some may stay...whether that is one visitor next month or one million visitors next month, it will not affect the goals we are trying to achieve...

To all of you at EOG, we thank you for considering the site enough to spend your valuable time here..We hope that the new EOG will be a place where you can come and get involved in the gaming landscape and be respected for your input..

In closing I think it is important to remember that your time, prescence, and voice are of great value..EOG appreciates you taking the time to be here with your voice heard...

Looking at the life of Ken Wietzner, we can see that he was both loved and not so loved by many...Either way, he pursued his path with passion and when he spoke, people listened no matter if they loved him or not, right or wrong...what he said was always heard and he pioneered the gaming forum medium that affords all of us that same benefits today...

Regards...The BetPhoenix Group

I like the direction we are going...many more winners and opinons here in the last week or so that I have ever seen here...and much more information and cooperation....

Keep up the good work everyone and thanks to the posters who have returned to check us out...

And thanks to the moderators here for putting up with my antics and questions the past couple weeks...

I assure you that myself and JK have future ideas that will interest most here...

Like the direction as well Viejo one suggestion would be if there is anyway to podcast the talk shows EOG will be doing it is hard for me and some others to listen live due to a thing called work.

V, question. Do you feel that when a sportsbook of this size takes over a forum it limits the marketing to smaller sports books. Meaning do you feel a large book may come to to terms and feel why advertise at a competitors site.

Good Question Baller.

I have my own answer and belief to this as a staff member, but would really like to hear VD's answer. :)

Glad they finally came out with it. 12io4j2w90

Hopefully this doesn't negatively effect other books like BetJam, Bodog, Bookmaker, etc. from still having a presence here with ads and contests. If this just becomes one big BetPhoenix interactive advertisement then it won't be nearly the asset to the player that we'd all like it to be, but if the last few months are any indication then hopefully that won't be the case.

Well. I will try to answer but I am not fully sure I understand the question...to me it sounds like you are asking me why CRIS or BetJam should advertise at a site like EOG where it is owned by another larger book...I really don't see why not....each book is different and caters to a specific group of gamblers...there is only a limited number of books that cater to everyone...it seems to me that the smaller books would want to advertise here because the perception is that most of the forums all just recreational gamblers with a good opinon...5 years ago the perception was that everyone was recreational and bet nothing but parlays and teasers...the internet has toughened up the players with large amounts of info and nowadays the players get all the info before the books...

Used to be the player picked up the phone and made a bet without checking lines or comparing lines with others...the smaller shops do not want smart players with good opinons...they want the players that Las Vegas has on Sunday morning who line up at the windows one hour before kickoff with parlay and teaser cards in their hands ready to bet their favorite teams...so what happens? Two or three of the sharper stores start to deal dual lines to their customers depending on your betting habits...

Some books spend huge amounts on advertising and broker in with other books promoting their multiple websites....marketing is tough, and I am no expert in that field but I believe that there is a reasonable need for books to advertise on forum sites, especially when they are offshore and cannot advertise in the states...where else can they advertise?

Back when I started in offshore, and guys like Steak and Loman can attest, all the books used to work together and promote offshore...sad to say but it is not like that anymore because the industry has grown along with the internet...all the smaller books are being gobbled up by the larger ones and the smaller ones that are left are trying to stay under the radar without advertising and relying on pay per head and agents....it is a difficult question to answer...

All I know is that when I visit the states and try to explain to others what offshore is, hardly anyone knows....same with the forums, they are not well known except to Las Vegas and hard core gamblers who have an idea about forumville...there is a vast market out there that is untapped....it is up to each marketing team in each of the books and forums to get their fair share....how they go about it is beyond me; I come from the old school where if you give me a pen with paper, a phone, and a desk, I will survive...

Re: Message from BetPhoenix

I ask this not to be a douche bag, but because I'm legitimately curious. If the book owns the forum and also has most fo the posters as clients, isn't that a conflict that will hurt the forum long term?

Let's say you have a stud poster who has a rep and releases a lot of winners. Someone like Iceman. Theoretically, if everything goes as planned, Ice gives out a strong play he likes on the forum. A bunch of posters follow, and bet the game strong in their accounts at BP. The game wins and BP takes a hit. Or the game loses and the assholes come out and start bashing Ice for "giving out the other side" as they did often with Ken (who incidently admitted he did that). Either way it's lose/lose for the BP/EOG group. So it seems the best way to avoid things like that is to avoid having sharp cappers on the payroll and giving out plays. Which hurts the forum. It seems like a problem. any thoughts?

If I am not mistaken, Betphoenix acquired Skybook, which had some ownership/affiliation with TheRx as well. Does that make them partial owners of the other forum or was that not included in the deal?

Most posters here have multiple outs and play where they can get the best number....to my knowledge nobody here is paid to cap games....Iceman is a paid moderator and shares his info with others free of charge....

Coming from you and Tony Montana, your response is greatly appreciated...

We still have a long way to go, but I think we are on the right track...

Re: Message from BetPhoenix

Does this mean that if a player has a dispute with Bet Phoenix, it will either get corrected through here or he or she would be banned from here? I originally thought that Ken lost his share on a wager through Bet Phoenix. Guess it's time to fund my Bet Phoenix account.
