No question, Daddy, I screwed that one up and am out of people who are cool to using their name.

It's a lucky cover. I lost, it was a bad beat, but it's a risk that you assume when you bet on the favorite. Back-door covers are a fact of life. Some are more painful than others. On the flip side, I've been betting favorites in hockey on the pucks line and have been winning all season with empty net goals. Here, that's stacked in your favor, and it's up to the linesmaker to make the bet less appealing by taking the empty net into account. Three times last week, the teams laying 1.5 covered with goals in the last 5 seconds. Nothing is fixed. You have to take the good with the bad and be aware of what risks you're assuming.

Re: NOW TELL ME FOOTBALL ISN'T FIXED

Back when I played hockey, my favorite line would be -1.5 pucks. There was no sweeter sight than looking at a yawning net and an unguarded shooter firing one in from center ice.

Re: NOW TELL ME FOOTBALL ISN'T FIXED

Let me see if I can get this straight in my head...

There are gamblers who seriously believe that an NFL game is fixed somehow by the players, coaches, referees, or some combination thereof. Why? Because there is big money riding on the game between the aforementioned parties or Vegas, and if it's the latter, Vegas somehow influences these parties to fix the game.

Um, yeah. Sure.

Do some of you not understand how many hundreds of thousands if not millions of dollars ride on performance clauses in these players' contracts. Nevermind the millions of dollars they have contracted for that would be lost if they were found to participate in such a scandal. I'm talking about number of touchdowns in a season type of incentives. Coaches need to get every point they can, too, because at the end of the season you can bet the owner is going to be looking at point differential over the course of the season.

Now, if we were talking about some obscure college game where the athletes don't necessarily have as much to lose, or a game involving a fix by a lone ref or two (see Dougherty, Tim), then I could understand. But to question the motives of the coach and the players on either side of last night's game, as if they were in collusion to send the game Over or cover the spread is simply ludacris.

I'm in Doughboy's corner.

Too many point-shaving scandals to make this blanket statement.

Re: NOW TELL ME FOOTBALL ISN'T FIXED

Why not just bet the right side of the fix? Pretty simple really.

Very good statement. More games than not ARE fixed to a point. YOU JUST NEED TO KNOW WHERE AND WHEN THE FIX WAS IN! I didn't bet this game but YES there coach KNOWS the line guaranteed. Being the game was OVER with no time on the clock, why not go for 2? Losing by 1 looks better than losing by 2 , lol. When Indy kicked that field goal, I looked over to my brother and said watch this bullshit ending, and the Colts backers get backdoored. A major RED flag was 75% or more of all action went on the Colts yet the line never really moved. Watch another game fixed tomorrow. Army hasn't scored a touchdown vs. Navy in 3 years, lol, watch what happens.

Just to clarify my statement above, that, in my opinion, in the Colt game last night and in the NHL games which featured empty net goals in the last 5 seconds, nothing was fixed. Nobody sane would be ballsy enough to allow the clock to run that close to zero before taking care of business. Sorry for any confusion. I will say, however, that my first reaction after losing a bet is not to think the game was fixed.

My father was a man of very few words and has been gone for many years. Two things he said still stand out in my mind:

1. NBA games are fixed
2. My mother-in-law was a "very simple woman".

Wise beyond his years.

Re: NOW TELL ME FOOTBALL ISN'T FIXED

Internet Gambling Message Board Rule #361: All bad beats require the necessary expressed outrage and accusations of collusion by those on the wrong side.

Just as the craps shooter can roll 5 "fours" in a row and the crowd gasps, a sports cover can be made or lost on the last play.

Otherwise, randomness wouldn't be random.

If you feel otherwise, why would you be gambling on a fixed outcome?

One forum question: what exactly is an ASSCLOWN? Because it is a word bandied about many times. Why must it always be in all cap letters? Not familiar with these types of clowns.

Re: NOW TELL ME FOOTBALL ISN'T FIXED

this is a great thread I started. I will keep this opened until the end of the season. I am sure there will be more games like the one last night. Just watch the games closely. We all knew the titans, were going to score a touchdown. It is like watching the WWF when you were a kid. You knew the good guy was going to come back at the end and win. Games ARE FIXED. AND I will give you examples each week.

2 funny things in forums:

1-people saying 70 or 80 percent of the money or public money is one the favorite but the line hasn't moved, trap game! This is such complete gibberish where would you even start to explain whats wrong with it? where do they even get this from?

2-Claiming the sportsbooks in Vegas fix games depending on what they need. Here is the typical Las Vegas sportsbook crew, 4 lightly paid ticket writers who have incredible superstititions they learn from their parade of $15 6 team parlay gamblers. One assistent manager who used to be a writer. possibly one senior manager whose job it is to wear a suit, copy pinnacles lines and glare at anyone wagering $1000 or more. The crew at your local Subway is more likely to have the ability to engineer a fix than these Las Vegas sportsbook dingbats.

Again just bet the side that the fix is in and make millions. Very simple really.

These guys are retards who took the points with the Titans and act like it was a good bet and win.Sometimes a losing wager is still a good wager. They play that game 100 times I will lay the 3 every time with Manning and the Colts vs the mailed it in Titans.

Nowshesmyruca, trying to be funny, your not. So your an assclown. You don't know which game will be fixed until after. This is going to be a great 7 or 8 weeks.

Oh I gotcha you only know what games were fixed after the fact. Hmmmmm Im scratching my head because before you said it was like WWF when you knew the outcome before it was over. Which is it?

a good rule of thumb in forum looney land is when someone starts yelping about fixes, faked moon landing, George Bush planting bombs in towers, etc. its best if you have an opposing point of view not to bother explaining it. you may as well run into a brick wall repeatedly instead

Re: NOW TELL ME FOOTBALL ISN'T FIXED

Mr. SMITH, did you watch the game. The titans were down by 9. They scored with the clock at 00. There is no such thing as a 9 point toucdown right? You kick a field goal with 45 seconds and you kick an onside kick. Unless the point spread is 2.5. Then you take all the time off the clock, and score a touchdown. Why wouldn't they go FOR TWO, instead of kicking the extra point. LOSING 30-27 or losing 30-29 , whats the diffrence a 2.5 point spread. Stay tuned.

if evidence that NFL coaches have no clue how to manage a clock constitutes a fix, this is going to be one long thread

Has anybody blamed the defensive coordinator for the Colts yet?

Chris Johnson was handed over 50 yards in receptions during the last 1:30....

Sportsbetting isn't easy; you can get all the plus/minus you want and it is still a crapshoot...

Re: NOW TELL ME FOOTBALL ISN'T FIXED

Why is it always the people that lose a game that think the NFL is fixed?

Because they were just So Fucking Sure of this one.....heh

We used TEN +3 on Tuesday as the back end of a $10 twoteamer with an NBA Total. Was pleased as punch to see the +28 on my Modestly Endowed offshore balance this morning

I don't think they would wait to the very last play with no time left to fix a game! Many easier ways to fix a game, imo....

Fixed is a strong word....negative connotations. Jack Molinas does not care for the word fixed. More accurately perhaps, it is at times gently massaged to a happy ending.....for the books.
