? The Obama Administration?s new fuel economy standards will result in the retail price of average motor vehicles to increase over $11,000, according to a study conducted by the Center for Automotive Research.

?A fuel economy standard of 37.6 mpg is associated with a price increase of $5,244, 18.1 percent higher than the 2009 National Automobile Dealers Association (NADA) average price of $28,966. A fuel economy standard of 40.8 mpg is associated with a price increase of $6,770, 23.4 percent higher than the 2009 NADA price,? says their report called, ?The U.S. Automotive Market and Industry in 2025.?

?A fuel economy standard of 44.8 mpg is associated with a price increase of $8,214, 28.4 percent higher than the 2009 NADA price. The fourth fuel economy standard of 49.6 mpg is associated with an $11,290 increase in retail price. It is assumed that manufacturers and dealers will pass on the cost increase in fuel economy and safety technology to the consumer, at a retail price equivalent.?

The Obama administration?s new fuel economy standards would require automakers to produce cars and light trucks with an average fuel economy of 54.5 mpg by 2025. The Center for Automotive Research says their study is ?the result of 11 months of effort and investigation by researchers at CAR in 2010-2011.?

Zoe Lipman, the National Wildlife Federation?s Senior Manager for Transportation and Global Warming Solutions argued on a conference call held Thursday that the estimated fuel savings due to these standards will outweigh the ?modest? motor vehicle price increases for consumers.

CNSNews.com asked the participants on the call, ?The Center for Automotive Research says the new passenger vehicle standards could eventually cost consumers an additional $5,000-$6,000 for each new vehicle. Will these standards result in higher automobile costs for consumers and are these standards a good idea especially in a fragile economy??

Lipman responded, ?I would push back. I think we?re seeing with this final rule some really clear, not speculative, but really clear numbers on what the up front costs look like and if anything they?re lower than initial projections. I think the punch line here is that the fuel savings hugely exceeds any up front costs. Yes, there are modest costs that result from the fuel economy improvements ? that?s technology generally being built here going into these vehicles but the savings far outweigh that.?

Their new report called, ?Standards Deliver ?Trucks That Work? For Wildlife, Economy? says, ?under the final standard, heavy duty pickup and van owners save over $6,000 over the life of the vehicle.?

Erika Nielsen, director of marketing and public relations at BorgWarner Inc. and David Perkins, president of UAW Local 171 at Volvo Powertrain also appeared on the conference call but did not respond to the question.

Thomas Pyle, the president of the Institute for Energy Research disagrees with Lipman.

?The Obama administration?s latest fuel economy mandates are an aggressive step away from consumer choice and towards government control,? he said in a USA Today op-ed.

?Every day, Americans are seeing the negative consequences of the administration?s increasingly aggressive meddling in the economy?more government control and less consumer choice.?

See markinsac, secession isn't such a bad idea. 2348ji23e

Americans better pull their heads out of their asses before 2012. They got their "historic" election in 2008, now it's time for Tea Party Patriots to try and save what's left of the country.

Sheer fantasy, the "Tea Party" doesn't even exist as a stand alone entity, the candidates all run under the Republican label at the polling booth.Waiting for some political opportunists to "save" the U.S., jeeze...

Raising fuel economy standards on cars by 2025 is a roundabout way to deal with the effects of "Peak Oil" without directly saying so.Driving will begin to be priced out of reach for many,as in this case the free market adjusts to a reduced supply of gasoline for cars,by adjusting the demand side in different ways.
If it's too expensive to operate a motor vehicle, the transportation market will adapt and provide other means of mobility.

I used to marvel in high school about how passionate many of my peers became over "student council" elections?anger, speeches, fights, vandalism, threats, posters, rallies, etc., etc., when, in reality, NO MATTER WHO was elected or what they promised or purported to believe in, the REAL Administration of the school remained unaffected?NOTHING of ANY REAL significance was going to change; EVER! Now I am in my 60?s and I marvel that most of my peers mentally, despite overwhelming evidence to the contrary, STILL have that "Student Council Mindset" except they are now in what they absurdly like to call the "real world".
So go ahead, rant, rave, register, elect, whatever?NOTHING will change because, like high school, the people elected are NOT really running the show?they just put on an act; throw a bone or two where possible while they; like bull riders in a rodeo; do all they can to stay on as long as they can to enjoy the gravy train.

You can no more solve political problems by establishing an "opposition party" than you could protect yourself from lions on the plains of Africa by bringing your own lion. Ultimately, institutions do NOT oppose each other except while they fight over the right to eat you?no matter which lion wins, YOUR fate is secure; you are going to be dinner.

So called "opposition parties" are easily co-opted and will simply merge into the defecant-laced whole of the power structure. Even if "successful" all you will have done is created your own gate to the same negative destination; but having your own gate does NOT change your ultimate destination! Curiously, both those that saw Obama as some kind of savior and those who opposed him are now registering similar complaints?both groups may not wish to see it; but they have a LOT more in common with each other than not.

Perhaps, someday the human race will mature to the point where they no longer feel the need for life-long parental supervision and give up the illogical notion that some are entitled to "rule" others. One would think that as the human race teeters on the brink of self-imposed extinction supported by nearly 5,000 years of recorded human history showing that governments ALWAYS fail to protect and defend while failing to deliver on their empty promises of prosperity, etc., that the overwhelming evidence of the past would sink in.

After all, it is not like some have been beneficial and others not; there has NOT been a single instance where governments have ultimately failed to turn upon their populace. NOT ONE!?Whatever, "peace and order" was enjoyed; has merely been the calm before the storm. THINK about it?NOT ONE in nearly 5,000 years?and, considering that record has undoubtedly been sanitized by pro-institution "historians"; the REAL record is almost certainly far worse than even that repugnant chronicle.

You would think the lessons borne out by that damnable record could be understood by even the most casual observer! But, believers in institutions are like heroin junkies?no matter how they suffer; they continue to crave another fix. I keep waiting for this world filled with hopelessly addicted institution-oriented junkies to see the light? IF and when that day comes governments will go to the way of the dinosaur; until then, routinely exchanging one set of predators and parasites for another will NEVER result in "freedom"?Oppressors may change; but oppression does NOT.

Americans have the same possibility of change through their elective process as residents of Stalin?s gulags had of being extricated by filing a writ of habeas corpus?right up there with being struck by a meteor in terms of probability.

So we bail out the car companies, then add huge costs so they cant possibly pay us back
Makes sense in Obozo's world :doh1

What the hell, we destroy perfectly good cars, knock down houses, use food stamps to stimulate the economy and create jobs

:silly: As Glenn says, it really does make blood shoot out of your eyes

That's right, the Tea Party as an entity does not exist and that makes it impossible to target and defeat (not that progressives don't try).

Like Gorebull Warming, the cult of "Peak oil" is another intellectual fraud cooked up by radical global socialists who want -- you guessed it -- CONTROL.
