North Korea fires ballistic missile over Japan
North Korea has fired a ballistic missile over Japan, in what appears to be a deliberate escalation to get the attention of Tokyo and Washington.
The missile travelled 4,500km (2,800 miles) before falling into the Pacific Ocean - far enough to hit the US island of Guam if it took another trajectory.
It is the North's first missile launch over Japan since 2017. Japan issued an alert to some citizens to take cover.

The US has shrinking options to respond to Saudi-Russian oil output cuts via further releases from its Strategic Petroleum Reserve.
In any battle, fighting OPEC+ flow with a stock that’s by nature finite is a losing proposition. But that’s compounded by short-sighted policies over several administrations, both Democrats and Republican, that now are tying the hands of the White House.
US President Joe Biden can still release extra oil from the SPR — and I expect him to do so in response to the Riyadh-Moscow oil axis. But the amount would be smaller than this year’s, which since early June has averaged about 850,000 barrels per day.
Due to those SPR releases, the reserve has shrunk significantly. As of last week, it contained 416 million barrels, the lowest amount since July 1984. By the time the White House completes the current round of releases, probably in early December, the reserve will have fallen to about 380 million barrels.
In theory, what’s left is enough for another large release — as big as the 200-plus million barrels of 2022 — that would still leave plenty inside the SPR for a future emergency. But the numbers are deceiving.
Everyone in Washington has used the reserve as an ATM to pay for future budgetary spending: millions of barrels are already earmarked for sale by federal law. Since 2015, Congress has enacted eight laws mandating the sale of up to 359 million barrels until 2031. To date, 93 million barrels have been sold, leaving another 266 million to be sold, according to the US Congressional Research Service.
And that’s when the math gets less forgiving. Subtracting presold oil from the 380 million barrels the SPR would have by year’s end leaves just 144 million barrels for emergency releases.
Even if the White House was to release all of it during 2023, it would equal less than 400,000 barrels per day, or half of the 2022 release. Of course, Washington can sell more — but if it does, big buying looms from 2024 to cover what’s presold. The White House has a final — and small — bullet.

The point is the petroleum reserve is for emergencies, the fact that the democrats are in danger of losing power is not an emergency.
Every single thing Biden has done as president has hurt the long term prospects of the country.
emergency could be texas (on it's own grid ) cause of the bad weather or storm into NO area. there Is about 24 days left of spr. Rolling the dice here... the problem of oil is in the refining . Oil lost about 4 refineries in the last few years. Saudi and russia know this. The oil companies won't build more refineries. There is way over 100 refineries . The are probably using it for derivatives

in 1984 the spr was the same ...during raegan ..that could have been left from carter. where the gas was a big problem along with unemployment and other things. I don't remember who made it low.
SPR is basically used as a slush fund for presidents .. when they see it low they buy and sell whenever.
joe should counter with getting rid of policy & give the ball to the oil companies to drive the price down. Saudi playing games.
