The Cost to Ship Grain Down the Mississippi Has Skyrocketed

Mississippi River’s average monthly downbound grain barge rates

Record-low water levels are causing major shipping
jams just as the US needs to export this year’s harvest.

the food prices are low now. Wait till they cannot move the trade with the use of the rivers. Prices will really go high. Cheaper to move trade on water vs trucks or rail

YOU THINK

climate change is fake

the food prices will be real

Yes, climate change is fake, the river is low because it was dry up north, it's finally raining.

The river is “low, been low and not getting filled anytime soon – so a bad situation getting worse,” said Jeremy Jack, who just harvested his crops on 11,500 acres of land in the Mississippi Delta. “We don’t have any soybean storage. Beans are in places where they shouldn’t be and losing quality.”

I've got almost 2 inches this week, other areas have received far more, time to take a chill pill, everything is not the end of the world.

LMAO, stay in your right wing bubble of ignorance Comrade
Yup, climate change is a hoax designed to give more power to the elite and at the same time stripping freedom from the masses.

And if global warming caused by man made greenhouse gas emissions is real, there's nothing we can do to stop or even slow it.

What do you recommend we do about it?

Here's the latest CO-2 data/chart for the last several decades - show me where anything we've done has mattered, even a teeny, tiny bit? the first kyoto protacol was in 1990, al gore began hyping it 15 years ago - what's been the result? nothing.

The climate hoax is a joke, it isn't changing anything ...but it will take your money, that is the true goal.

what is melting the north pole..? explain why it is melting. does not matter if it is CO2 or cycling or sun spots.. it is melting..look at the photos not the data

why is russia and china moving military bases to the north pole for years... because oil is available because not as much ice

remember you thought russia had an easy win vs ukraine

you have no idea what you are reading with your data

look at the picture say 30 -40 years ago . Then look now.

i don't know how it is melting could be cycles or sun spots , co2 or whatever. BUT it is melting and it is getting warmer,

read this:

the USA is currently building 57 desalination plants adding to what they already have.

do you think san diego would have built theirs at 3 million gallons water a day a few years ago if the world was not drying up?

MrTop

Drying up and having clean water are 2 very different issues. Contamination.

there is no more water for drinking ..they are going to the ocean

see Saudi Arabia they are building the biggest one in the world

Desalination plants remove salt and other minerals from saline waters to produce fresh water suitable for human consumption or irrigation.

As Water Scarcity Increases, Desalination Plants Are on the Rise

After decades of slow progress, desalination is increasingly being used to provide drinking water around the globe. Costs for processing salt water for drinking water have dropped, but it remains an expensive option and one that creates environmental problems that must be addressed.

Some 30 miles north of San Diego, along the Pacific Coast, sits the Claude “Bud” Lewis Carlsbad Desalination Plant, the largest effort to turn salt water into fresh water in North America.

Each day 100 million gallons of seawater are pushed through semi-permeable membranes to create 50 million gallons of water that is piped to municipal users. Carlsbad, which became fully operational in 2015, creates about 10 percent of the fresh water the 3.1 million people in the region use, at about twice the cost of the other main source of water.

Expensive, yes, but vital for the fact that it is local and reliable. “Drought is a recurring condition here in California,” said Jeremy Crutchfield, water resources manager at the San Diego County Water Authority. “We just came out of a five-year drought in 2017. The plant has reduced our reliance on imported supplies, which is challenging at times here in California. So it’s a component for reliability.”

A second plant, similar to Carlsbad, is being built in Huntington Beach, California with the same 50-million-gallon-a-day capability. Currently there are 11 desalination plants in California, and 10 more are proposed.

I'm not against desalinization plants, but it has nothing to do with climate change.

why do you think they are putting in the plants because there is too much water?

fresh water is at a low. Look at nevada.

texas and florida putting in the plants too.. not much fresh water out there

Why isn’t that happening?

breaking the artillery battery down & regrouping to defend another city which is more important. If ukraine is attacking while russia playing defense then ukraine needs a 3-1 ratio to win a battle. Time is important snow and thick mud is on it's way
