RIP Alex Trebek

One of the more brutal cancers one could have.

BINGO!

What makes it so brutal is the fact you never know you have it until it is too late. You are aware of it until it spreads to places like bones, muscles and inner body parts and by then it is too late. I knew someone who had this. We emailed a lot. He said he would have his son let me know when he passed away. That was about 2 years ago. I have emailed him a few times and have not heard back from him. If he was alive he would have returned my email. The fact he has not is not good and I have chalked it up to him losing his battle.

150 years from now there will be a cure for all of this and kids will read about 2020 and ask their (grand)parents how people in 2020 were so primitive.

RIP Alex Trebek.

The five-year survival rate for pancreatic cancer is 9%.

Talk about being the best in your profession.

Trebek was super smooth.

Talk about being well-prepared.

Trebek never seemed to bobble, let alone commit an error.

there already is a cure

They had approached Ken Jennings at least a year and a half ago about succeeding him.

I am telling you now, it won't work.

This is my observation. One of the reasons Alex Trebek was so GREAT on Jeopardy! was that he obviously was intelligent, but people always wondered for over thirty years how HE would do on the show. Well, with Ken Jennings, there is no mystery. He is a top 3 GOAT.

That dynamic that Trebek had is non-existent with Ken.

I went to a filming of Jeopardy about ten years ago. He actually made a couple of mistakes which were recreated during a commercial break. He was totally smooth and very personable. Took audience questions during other breaks and shot teases with the contestants to plug their appearances in their home towns. A lot went on.
it was kinda weird watching this Monday’s show after he had passed. These seven weeks are sort of his gift to us.

RIP Alex. Anyone Remember who was the Jeopardy host before him? Mad Tiger made a great point about the next host. Tough shoes to fill. Have been seeing Jeopardy James do commercials for one of the Legal US Sportsbooks.

art fleming, i saw some of those way back in the day, daytime nbc airings.

contestants could buzz in any time, not have to wait until the complete question was read.

I went to a filming last November after his announced his cancer. He also made a lot of mistakes that he corrected during breaks and I thought it might be because his cancer was taking a toll, but perhaps this is par for the course when you read 60 questions in rapid-fire succession.

Bu the way, I was a guest on the "Gambling with an Edge" podcast this week (Logan Fields) and I discussed Jeopardy and Alex Trebek briefly as I included a chapter in my book (20/20 Sports Betting) on Final Jeopardy wagering strategy. Jeopardy fans might want to give it a listen. Somebody asked Alex when I was there what is his favorite book of all time and I discussed this in the closing segment of the Podcast.

I took the Jeopardy test a good 20-25 years ago

50 questions
13 minutes
35 right - MINIMUM

I could still be there and I'd be no closer to 35 than I was then
