The EOG Octagon (SKINNY v RAILBIRD)

The guy traveled, then double pumped all in 2 seconds, lol. All this after they cheated and got 3 chances to win the game. Doug Collins makes 2 free throws after almost being knocked out, and a buzzer going off in the middle of his second free throw. There is your champion. Keep those silver medals in the vault. Karma's a bitch, in 1980, Russia doesn't want to move the hockey game to 8:00pm, so they play at 5:00pm and they get there ass beat. Voted the greatest sports moment of the 20th Century. Boris Mikhilov still crying about it 40 years later.

RB probably thinks Roy Jones Jr legitimately lost in the 88 Olympics also

Two clutch free throws by Collins were overshadowed by the controversial loss.

It wasnt controversial if you do a deep dive on the subject, its mostly sour grapes

Doing a deep dive now.

Does Wikipedia qualify as a "deep dive?"

Haha.

Wikipedia claimed in the first sentence of their entry on the 1972 game that it was "one of the most controversial events in Olympic history."

Team USA was 63-0 in Olympic competition before the loss to the Soviet Union.

Bill Walton declined to play on the 1972 Olympic team.

Halftime score: USSR 26 USA 21.

Final score: USSR 51 USA 50.

I lost interest in the recap of the game right after reading about the second inbounds pass and before reading about the third inbounds pass.

Not controversial?

You always see teams inbound a ball three times with Referee intervention.
Happens all the time.

In hindsight, the Rooskies ran the right play with three seconds left.

Third time's the charm.

The golden pass, high in the air, to their toughest player situated under the basket.

I'd question the tactics of the late head coach Hank Iba: Do you want your tallest player harrassing the inbounds pass or protecting the front of the rim?

They would have probably given them a 4th attempt if that shot missed. Or called for FTs 44 seconds later...
