A friend of mine (Thor Schmidt) played in the Rose Bowl in the mid-1990s for Northwestern.
The following season, he competed in the Citrus Bowl.
In the Rose Bowl, USC defeated Northwestern, 41-32.
In the Citrus Bowl, Tennessee defeated Northwestern, 48-28.
My friend's biggest accomplishment as a starting defensive end in the Citrus Bowl: The nail of his right pinkie finger grazed the shoulder pad of Tennessee quarterback Peyton Manning.
