Really like the logo....the name I'm going to need to warm up to. But I guess it's not all that bed. I figured it be much worse.

I assume Las Vegas Golden Knights was too many words hence the shortened "Vegas Golden Knights”.

I was at the ceremony and many I talked to seemed lukewarm to cold on the choice of Golden. I would rather have seen Desert Knights but I’m certain everyone will eventually just call them the Knights anyway.

I like the logo above. Not the secondary one of the two swords in the red cross. Too many colors. Gold, black, red, and gray?

The ceremony had it’s share of hiccups. Hopefully not a harbinger of things to come.

What really concerns me is the mock expansion draft Craig Button did for Vegas come next June. The team he pencils in wouldn’t win 20 games in 2017-18.

More I think about it I’d put the over/under at 14.

Button's approach is not what will happen in real life. Vegas will pick some higher cap hit players and flip them for prospects. They won't be that bad. No reason to go for Fleury or Silvferberg when you can pick up a couple of young quality defensemen from Pit and Ana. If you want a veteran keeper you could grab Miller from Vancouver instead of Sbisa and have similar results and better defense. There will be so much goaltending available in this draft that they could make that the least of their priorities. It's useless to talk about it now, the trade deadline will see a lot of movement because of the expansion draft as teams line up their rosters, this is a fun to do thing now but can't be taken seriously till late spring.

I think the owner is a West Point grad. That's where the colors, name, and logo come from. Although don't know about the Golden part. Maybe they can get some cross promotion going with the Golden Steer.

The favorite here is probably a great bet. Guessing they will have a "premier" team (like Rangers, Penguins, Blackhawks) in their opener and place it on National TV.

I just heard the patent office denied the request to name the team "Golden Knights", looks like they'll have to come up with a new name, or just go with "Knights"

It's not as bad as it sounds, they just need to provide more detail on their application. Same as when Carolina Hurricanes relocated from Hartford and infringed on the Miami Hurricanes brand. The problem here is that the logo and colours are quite similar but they should get it sorted out without much trouble. Issue is that the NHL should have taken care of the patent application before unveiling the name, they were too concerned to keeping that a big secret right up to the unveiling. Idiots!

Not a big fan of this guys article. He seems to be missing the fact you can have as many pluggers and analytical + players on your rosters all you want but if you don't have players to put the puck in the net and keep it out as well as a better than average power play, you simply are not going to win many games in the NHL these days. The league is loaded with bonified stars and the Knights have none of them. And most everyone he picked up in the dispersal draft with any real NHL experience, he dealt for future draft picks. McPhee is setting the team up for a very bright future, and everything I've seen him do pretty much completely ignores winning games in this inaugural season. It's almost like he's saying, let throw away the first couple season at the expense of the overall health of this team longterm.

They are. League average per ticket in the NHL is in the $70 range. Knights tickets are at $88 per seat average. They are simply capitalizing on the hype. Smart move. And can always lower them should interest wane and still be in good shape. Lots of things this Foley and his people are doing right.

100% fan based. That was the whole point of the season ticket drive to prove to the NHL there was a local interest.

Agree and let me add two facts. This guy’s article was written before the free agent signings of July 1 in which the Knights did very little. McPhee isn’t wavering from his game plan to build with draft picks and become competitive in short order. Also expect what few markable pieces they do own to be dealt at the trade deadline in early March for more picks. The 2018 draft is supposed to be a strong one.

Also consider that season tickets are locked into one price per game. Individual tickets will be marked up accordingly to who they play that night. Final pricing should be considerably higher than $88 average.

Re: Vegas Golden Knights

Still many non-believers in this forum despite all the facts presented. 13k season tickets holders are Vegas locals. All the suites are sold out as well in this beautiful arena. And most lower bowl season ticket holders are signed up for 3-10 year packages. One smaller but significant factor in the situation in Phoenix is that market is over saturated sports markets in NA and the arena is in the worst part of town. They have NBA, MLB, NFL, WNBA, a PAC 12 college team, Spring training baseball. Vegas has unlv which plays in the Mountain West.

There's also this to add.....
Looking at some of the recent Stanley Cup Final ratings, Las Vegas rankings will surprise many of the naysayers. Starting with the 2010 Cup Final, Las Vegas’ share during the first two games was 8th in the country. Better than all but 5 cities that have teams, and two of those teams were playing in the final. Only three NHL cities that weren’t playing had a higher share than Vegas’ 3.3, Detroit, Pittsburgh, and Buffalo. In short, huge media markets like New York, Los Angeles and Boston had a smaller percentage of people watching than Las Vegas. Even in traditional hockey regions like Minnesota, Vegas outperformed them.

In 2012, the numbers are even better. For Game 5 between the Kings and Devils the Vegas market drew a 5.2 share good for 8th overall and third best among all non NHL cities. Remember, these last three examples came long before any NHL to Las Vegas news started being reported. Last years Cup Final continues this trend. In game six Las Vegas rated 10th overall with a 5.1 rating, again third among all non-NHL cities, and better than all but the most hardcore hockey towns. These numbers illustrate a consistent, interested, and active market where the NHL will thrive.

How about paying $100 for standing room, (upstairs), against the Arizona Coyotes? What’s a standing room ticket go for during a cup final?

For fans who weren’t willing or able to purchase season tickets to watch the Golden Knights, Monday was their day. The team put tickets on sale for individual games for its inaugural NHL season at T-Mobile Arena on its website and business was brisk.

Depending on the opponent and the location, it wasn’t a cheap endeavor. Prices started at $60 for selected games and those seats were in the corners at the very top of the building. The team also made seating available near the glass and at center ice. Those tickets went for as much as $2,000 per seat depending on the opponent.

As expected, the Knights’ home opener on Oct. 10 against Arizona was a very hot ticket. By 4 p.m., all that remained were the high-priced glass seats, the center ice seats and a limited number in the corner of the lower bowl. The team was also selling standing room upstairs for $100 per ticket.

You best be a high mid-roller or high roller, otherwise NIL, even then chances slim.

[h=1]After blowback, CBS Radio Las Vegas stations will mention the new Golden Knights [updated][/h]
CBS Radio stations in Vegas briefly tried to ignore the NHL.

Las Vegas will be stepping into the major league sports realm in a short few months when the Vegas Golden Knights step onto the ice. But if you listen to the CBS Radio stations in the city, you wouldn’t even know they exist. It appears that the group which includes six stations has been ordered not to mention the team, not to discuss the team or even write about the team on the group’s websites and social media platforms.
Update: CBS Radio has now changed course, issuing this statement to Jason Barrett (who wrote about the situation here):

Original piece follows:
The Golden Knights are preparing for their inaugural season in the NHL and have already awarded their TV and radio rights to AT&T SportsNet and Lotus Broadcasting respectively. But for CBS Radio, it’s as if the Golden Knights aren’t even playing. The cluster’s general manager Tony Perlongo spoke with KLAS-TV sports anchor Ron Futrellabout this policy:
“We have a lot of other things to cover, the Knights don’t work into our coverage.” He added, “We have an amazing amount of content. We support their (the Golden Knights) success in the marketplace, but that will depend on their partnership that they’ve already developed.”
An e-mail was been circulated to all employees:
[h=3]The latest[/h]

Just wanted to pass along this info….a decision has been made that effective immediately, there are to be no further mentions of the Las Vegas Golden Knights hockey team on any CBS/LV radio stations or any of our social media platforms. This includes, but not limited to, on sale ticket mentions, player/coaches interviews, plugging locals to sing national anthem, TV broadcast schedule, etc. It is now the responsibility of the Golden Knights’ chosen radio partner to help accomplish their goals, not ours. We are asking you to include ‘show’ pages, as well. We need to show a united front on this issue. If you have anything already planned around the team, please cancel. If you have any ‘best of’ bits around the team, please do not air and find another piece of content.
This is quite rare for an entire radio group to ignore a professional sports team especially when it’s beginning a new experience in the city. Imagine CBS Radio stations in Southern California ignoring the Los Angeles Chargers in their first year in the market.
For CBS Radio in Las Vegas, this smacks of sour grapes after losing the sweepstakes to get the Golden Knights. If CBS Radio won the rights to the team, you can successfully bet that all of the stations would be on board with coverage, ticket giveaways and all types of promotions.
It’s a strange policy. CBS Radio stations in other markets don’t ignore teams that aren’t carried on its airwaves, but the Las Vegas group is making a point to ignore the Golden Knights.
