I made a similar comment, but as usual the response was more of an effort to divert my attention than to answer my question. So many of these Vegas posters that JK is begging to post with us just aren't true gambling forum people. They post like they're writing a letter to the editor to the country club mailer, and not to their forum buddies on EOG. What it does is destroy the ambience of this place, making it feel like a digest of "pro" gamblers who just like to see their name in print. You need real characters and some drama to draw new people into the fold, and discussion of issues on which everybody feels their opinion has weight. I'm sorry, but a photo of the day from Las Vegas isn't going to inspire anyone to make their first post at EOG, nor is an invitation to play ping-pong for cash in Vegas with another one of your country club friends. All of that stuff cheapens EOG, making it feel like the only people who will post here have to be asked to do so, and even then only remain as active as their self-promotion permits.

I think the site is so much better than it was mid-summer. When you come on and read interesting and intelligent posts from other readers, it creates an atmosphere that is friendly and less intimidating for newcomers to participate. Not to mention the fact that some of the posters are quite good at prognostication. We had a great Saratoga meet, highlighted by Red Alert. Palm Tree rarely lost a baseball bet. King Revolver and Railbird did a nice job picking out some long-shots in the recently concluded US Open. A few of us were able to hit a couple of winners. JK's percentage has stayed in the stratosphere. Personally, I could use some help at college FB, but I think by reading and sorting out the data from some great contributors, I will be better at it by this time next month. Hopefully, the site will continue to attract top-notch people and the question of "what improvements do you see" will answer itself.

I like the way it has changed direction. There is, by far, less drama and BS here, and there also seems to be a lot less humor because of the aforementioned. The place is certainly being driven by focused gamblers and not pure boneheads. To that end, pure, focused gamblers appear to post less, which reduces the traffic and response(s) that may come from newbies and those less inclined to thread-start. I will say the level of bashing has gone from 4 grade to the undergraduate level, as well. I do not think any one person makes or breaks a forum, but the body of the forum needs to grow with the site-or its DOA.

I tried to partcipate in that ncaa forum, was personally attacked when someone didnt like my opinions. junkyd47. Its a big sec pom pom fest. The less the better.

The sports forums are really dead, I mean unbelievably dead.

This place has some good well known guys like JK and Fezz.. VD and Ice were great additions so this place has quality..

getting rid of Hoffa was long overdue..

The sports forums took a hit when Capwins and Whale's site hit the boards...a ton of good posters with opinons left when the Shrink passed away...

Gyno is correct, the sports forums are deader than disco right now, but I can see changes coming down the road...

But on the other hand, these guys who post in the sports forums using the words like lock and sure thing have no business picking games...noone will listen unless good analysis is given...that way even if a game loses, his picks are taken more seriously when info are behind them...shows at least some thought behind the selections...

So if some of you guys don't mind, PM me with some suggestions on how to make these college and NFL subforums stronger....

Guys...VD is the right person to put this forum ahead of RX in a year or so.

You guys have a great leader and a very knowledgeable offshore guy to take advantage of here if you use him in the right way.

VD...its hard to get people to post in the sports forums when you have a strong general comment area...everyone wants their picks looked at and when they post them in individual sections...they dont think they get seen...same goes with sports specific info that you want in the individual sections...

you have to give people a reason to go into those sections....and we all know what gets people moving....$

Absolutely...that's why one of EOG's priorities right now is to improve the college and pro forums and run a bunch more contests and try to let others contribute and have their voice listened to...

Thanks for the advice....Factsman and myself just got off the phone two nights ago talking about these football forums and came to the same conclusion you did....money!

And Whale, I wish I was as fat as your bankroll....

Will be coming shortly, our contests have taken a hit this year. Not one post up contest was filled, I think that was due to the transition as well as economy. Books also are slimming down on giving prize money away for those that are barely playing. They want to reward the active players at the books but at the same time draw the new players. Not always an easy task. I am hoping that we can improve our marketing skills which will carry over to our contests.

Also would like to see some type of system where the posters logins and places his/her plays. We are behind the times but the wallet has to foot the bill. Agree with what you said though.

My sentiments exactly.

Clover, you know I am a fan of your work but I think you need to give these guys some time to turn it around. I think the chances are better today for the survival of the forum than they were previously. Looks like some pretty sharp people around here that can help squares like me.

winning Freeplays with 10X rollover wont attract anything, who really cares how many books are willing to do that.. those are nice for some nightly contest, but wont ever attract new blood..
