Who's The AL MVP?

Sure hope Toronto wins tomorrow, that helps Cal. Seattle won their division and the Yankees wouldn’t.

I don't think that plays a factor, if the Yankees were in the West they would have already clinched the division

The two best players in baseball are Judge and Ohtani, and it isn't close, whoever is third best is miles behind them. I never liked the term "most valuable player", what does that even mean? There are many players who are just as valuable to their team as the other. To me the award should go to the BEST player in each league, rename the award "Most Outstanding Player"

This is true. And they really tower over everyone else. Historically, the MVP in MLB has been about the best statistical seasons. The whole "most valuable" idea really came into vogue with the NBA. But with only 5 players on the floor at a time, its logical. The NFL MVP has become corrupted from the best statistical season by an offensive player, to the best QB.

I had a ticket on Seattle to win the West so I was rooting for them and Raleigh is a great story. But Judge's numbers are historic; Ted Williams like. Seattle has a better all around lineup and team than the Yankees, IMO. Remove both players and I think Seattle is still in the playoffs while the Yankees are on the outside looking in. Judge's bat covers up for a lot of defensive mistakes by the team. Other than Bellinger, what bat there scares anyone? Goldschmidt is nowhere the player he was with St Louis and Arizona.

Cal does have a 9.1 WAR and won 2 of the 3 triple crown stats in the AL at a premium position, so he does have a chance.

Chisholm had a 4.4 WAR, also a 30/30 season for the Yanks. hes pretty talented, but I think he may have overachieved.

really tempted to throw some more on Cal at +250.

I think you hit the nail on the head w Chisholm.

The problem with bringing in Triple Crown stats making the case for Raleigh over Judge loses value when you get to BA.

Using all of MLB,
Judge was 4th in home runs, 5th in RBIs and 1st in BA.
Raleigh was 1st in HRs, 3rd in RBIS, and probably at least 200th in BA.

I like guys like Luis Arraez and Ichiro; guys who could bat .331 like Judge did. But they aren't hitting 52 HRs in FOUR seasons, let alone one.

about 5 days ago judge was a dog....now -330

this all happened after comrade merlin said cal was going to win

i cannot lay -330...not taking +250 either

Unfortunately I think there is a pretty good segment of the voters who do vote based on those stats. What Cal loses in BA, im hoping he makes up in the position played and them winning the division while the Yankees didn't. The WAR being close may allow for that to be factored in. In the NL, Ohtani will run away with it,

Bring the team aspect into it and the Yankees won 4 more games than the Mariners.
