Will We See MLB In 2020?

From what I see, it is becoming more unlikely day by day...just saw some MLB plans to get started and I can’t believe some of these rules...I hope somebody posts them...

I hate to see a half-ass product, just because it’s sports. The only league I’m having any confidence in right now is the NFL. They could be putting on a false front also.

I've heard talk the NBA may resume the regular season? I could understand maybe 5 more games to act as a "preseason" for teams to play in the playoff. But most teams have 15-18 games left. Hard to envision the Warriors or the Cavs playing a full 82 games. The playoffs are going to end late as it is. Can't bump up too close to the next season.

Batting practice pitchers to wear masks. Maybe indoors in the Trop but ridiculous outside. 50 players on a team? That's stupid. The virus will get into some clubhouse, and wearing a mask for pitching BP not gonna do a damned bit of good.

Football caught a break in terms of COVID-19 timing.

Provided, of course, we can save September.

Unfortunately, we're on virus time.

That’s how I feel about restaurants, bars, casinos, etc. half-speed doesn’t cut it.
I understand they're scrared ninnies bending over backward to show how safe it is, but these measures go way too far, making them shower at home ,having managers wear masks in the dugout, asking players not to get too close to runners on base. That's not baseball.

And if they have to employ these measures, then they must not think it’s safe either.

It's beyond stupid. Think about a batting practice pitcher. NOBODY is close to him, yet he has to wear a mask? Are you going to make the hitter wear a mask too because he's right by the catcher and umpire? Do they have to wear masks under their actual protective gear masks? How about mound visits? You call time out, trainer goes out there with the masks, everyone puts a mask on. I guess it would eliminate the need to cover your mouth with the glove so nobody can lip read.

They already have the "neighborhood play" at 2B on double play force outs. Maybe any force out play at any base becomes a neighborhood play now as long as the defender has the ball.

The irony we hear of practicing good hygiene yet MLB saying no showers on premises. Golden exempted.

MLB, just don't bother.

Like everything else we've seen, what needs to happen is for someone to do less, and then show that nothing happened. I also heard the absurd suggestion that there isn't enough room in the dugout, so players would sit up in the stands in between innings.

We know that transmission outdoors, with social distancing, is very rare. Indoors is a whole different story but seeing grooms at Churchill Downs yesterday in an outdoor paddock fully masked up looked silly.

As for the dugout suggestion that Merlin referenced, once it gets into a clubhouse there's nothing an extra 2-3 feet are going to do. Most figure to be asymptomatic anyways.

Sports are either going to have to go herd mentality, or not play at all. Can't have it somewhere in between.

How will the NFL conduct huddles, group text?

God knows what that idiot Goddell will come up with. Every player can bring their iPad out onto the field. There will be virtual huddles. No short yardage formations. No 8 in a box defensively.

There is no halfway. Either herd or don't bother trying.

The most ridiculous thing about all these measures is that the players will be constantly tested. So why overreact?

I want a team in 1st place to have 4 of their top 5 hitters get a positive test and suddenly have to disappear for 2 weeks.

Apply this to a starting pitching staff.

I can't wait to see two AAA vets square off with a total of 13.5 in the Arizona thin air.

Pure bliss.

I'm ashamed of that Nascar fiasco yesterday, drivers wearing masks in their cars until they put their helmets on, announcers hundreds of miles away.. i thought Nascar was a more true blue republican sport?

Glad I don’t have to work a real job anymore. Total BS that you got to give in to the fear campaign and wear a mask just to get a pay check. I want no part of this new normal.

67 pages of new rules for MLB. LMAO

When on the road MLB players are not allowed to leave their hotel except to go to the ballpark.

With BS rules like this why even play?

Hard to know who has the ultimate say in each of the 50 states: Is it the Governor OR in this case of public health, a county official with the authority to ban large gatherings in places like Cook County (Illinois) or Los Angeles County (California)?
