X-Files Random Thoughts

What a magnificent performance by Demko!

EDMONTON — Goaltender Thatcher Demko has gone from riding the bench to crafting a storybook playoff season in the span of 72 hours and he's taking the Vancouver Canucks along for the ride.

Demko, 24, stopped all 48 shots he faced for his first-ever post-season shutout to lead the Canucks to a 4-0 win over the Vegas Golden Knights on Thursday night and force a Game 7 in their NHL playoff series.

It was just Demko's second playoff start two days after he turned aside 42 shots to preserve a 2-1 victory in Game 5.

And if you count the five shots he faced in mop-up time in Game 1, Vegas has blasted 96 pucks at him and Demko has stopped 95.

"Thatcher's been our MVP both nights," said Vancouver forward Jake Virtanen, who scored the game winning goal less than three minutes into the first period.

"He's standing on his head back there and he's making some amazing saves, keeping us in games. You can see the confidence he has back there. He's just calm and collected, playing his game." Demko is playing in place of regular starter Jacob Markstrom, who was deemed unfit to play. The NHL is not releasing injury details.

I thought Vegas had the best team. It goes to show that a hot goalie can steal a series. Can’t wait for game 7.

"RANDALL THE HANDLE: Week 3's NFL Best Bets...

Titans (2-0) at Vikings (0-2)
LINE: TENNESSEE by 2½
Minnesota QB Kirk Cousins has been horrendous thus far. He owns a passer rating under 62, has tossed two touchdowns to four interceptions and he’s completing less than 60% of his passes. Combined with the visiting Titans being 2-0 while Minnesota is 0-2, it is no wonder that Tennessee has been made a small favourite here. But we’re not falling for it. The Titans beat the Broncos and Jaguars by a combined five points. Both foes were considered to be offensively challenged heading into this season. Still, Tennessee defenders have allowed the eighth most yardage in the league after facing the suspect tandem. Minnesota’s defence has had its issues in this early going, but starting against the Packers and Colts can send your defensive stats in the wrong direction quite easily. Cousins’ poor start has been disappointing but a correction to unsustainably poor numbers is forthcoming. Vikes have covered 38 of 52 after a loss. They should get into the win column on this day.
TAKING: VIKINGS +2½"

Brees didn't play second half. They are complaining because they had a team on the ML, but they covered the spread, lol
